Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“You… how are you here?!”
Stephanie was terrified.
She rushed forward and grabbed both their sleeves,
“Who told you to come here? We agreed to contact by phone!”
“What’s all the shouting?
Your rich foster parents and your brother sent us!”
Stephanie’s biological mother Ms. Walker pulled her sleeve away,
Stephanie froze. Mom sent them?
Impossible!
Before she could react. Mark’s voice sounded behind her.
“She’s right. We did call them,”
Stephanie turned in disbelief,
Mark looked at her calmly, eyes burning with fury and disgust:
“Stephanie, since you’re not the real heiress, you should go back with your biological parents!”
“Your affairs have nothing to do with our family anymore!”
Stephanie went blank,
“Why?”
“Mom, Dad, Mark, didn’t you promise you’d never send me away?”
“That couple are terrible! One’s abusive, and the other gambles. They’re dirt poor!”
“If I go back with them, I’ll be sold off!”

But Anna just glanced coldly at her:
“Our Catherine suffered terribly in the countryside for years. You stole her life. You owe
her.”
“Why!”
Stephanie lunged like a madwoman and hugged Anna,
“Mom, didn’t you say you’d always treat me as your daughter?”
“You promised me!
Why break it now?
Did I do something terrible wrong?”
“Stephanie, still making excuses?”
Mark sneered and handed Stephanie a file folder.
Suspicious yet uneasy, she hesitated before taking it,
Dumping everything out,
Her pupils shrank when she saw the contents:
Photos of her bullying Catherine in high school!
Every angle, every bruise, every scene!
Stephanie’s teeth chattered,
Hadn’t she destroyed all these?
How did Mark find them!
“Wondering how I got them?”
Mark said softly,
Without the medical examiner’s clue, he’d never have known
What his innocent-seeming sister really did.

“Stephanie, do you sleep at night?”
Mark stared at her terrified face with bloodshot eyes,
“When you pressed that curling iron on Catherine’s hand, did you care how much it hurt?”
“When you locked her in that equipment room at midnight, did you care how scared she
was?”
“You ask if you did something wrong?
Weren’t these all your doing?
How dare you question us now!”
Mark grew angrier, hurling the remaining photos at her face.
Stephanie stumbled and scrambled up:
“Mark, listen! None of this is real!”
“Yes! Catherine photoshopped these! I never did any of it!”
“Never did them?”
Anna let out a cold laugh, tears brimming in her eyes.
She pulled out an old phone from her bag, transferred a video, and threw it before Stephanie.
The footage showed Stephanie grinning while forcing Catherine’s head into a toilet,
Stephanie’s piercing laughter blended with Catherine’s anguished screams, echoing through every corner of the living room.
Stephanie recognized it-that phone belonged to her former friend!
Shit!
Panic finally seized Stephanie as she scrambled to clutch Anna’s legs:
“Mom, I know I was wrong! My judgment was clouded back then! Please don’t send me away!”
“Hah! Clouded judgment?”

Chapter 6
Anna burst into bitter laughter, tears streaming down her face,
“No, you weren’t clouded. You planned every bit of this!”
“Not just you-your whole family plotted this!”
What family?
A wave of dread washed over Stephanie.
Anna produced a voice recorder, and the moment it appeared,
Thomas averted their eyes.
Stephanie stared blankly at the device as Anna pressed play.
The recording drained all color from Stephanie’s face.
