Stella was silent for a moment.
“Maybe we’re just two lonely people finding comfort in each other, but I do have feelings for you. I want to give it a shot. Who knows, maybe we’re the right ones for each other,” Jordan said.
Stella kept her eyes fixed on him. “If… if I get better but still can’t have kids, would you… would you mind?”
“If that day comes, we’ll just be a child–free couple. I’ll get a vasectomy,” Jordan replied.
Stella held her breath, looking at him in disbelief.
“Stella, do you want kids?” Jordan asked.
Stella nodded. “If it’s possible, I really do hope I could have a child of my own.”
People always said that children were the continuation of one’s life in this world. Maybe she wouldn’t be able to see what the future held, but she hoped her child could witness it all for her.
“Me too. But if it turns out we can’t, you’re still the most important person to me, you know that?” Jordan said.
Stella held her breath again. It had been ages since anyone had said something like that to her.
But the thing was, words like that only mattered depending on who said them. Kevin was like a brother to her. She could never feel a spark with him, not in a million years.
But after spending time with Jordan, there was no way she could pretend she didn’t feel something for him. “Okay, I’m willing to give it a try,”
Stella said.
“Really?” Jordan suddenly sounded excited.
Stella gave a slight nod.
“Can I kiss you?” Jordan blurted out. As soon as he said it, Jordan realized he might’ve gone too far. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that, Stella. I
But before he could finish, Stella suddenly leaned in and pressed her lips to his.
Jordan froze. It was obvious this was Stella’s first kiss. She had no idea what she was doing, clumsy and awkward. But somehow, that only made him want her even more.
He pulled her into his arms, one hand holding the back of her head firmly. Jordan wasn’t exactly experienced either, but he quickly took control, finding his rhythm as he kissed her back.
Just as Mary was about to come in, she caught sight of the scene and quietly backed out, a knowing smile on her face.
The kiss lasted a long time, so long that Jordan just couldn’t bring himself to let her go. With their foreheads pressed together, both of their cheeks were burning, and they couldn’t stop/smiling at each other.
“Stella, you’re so beautiful,” Jordan said softly.
Stella’s cheeks turned even redder. “Are you just trying to sweet–talk me?”

“Jordan, you know, if I hadn’t met you, I don’t think I ever would’ve believed I could enjoy what it means to be a woman, Stella said.
“Take good care of yourself. Trust me, there’s a whole world of wonderful things waiting for you as a woman, Jordan replied.
Stella’s cheeks were burning hot. She reached out and gave him a hard smack. “You’re the worst. What nonsense are you spouting now?”
Jordan couldn’t help but laugh.
Even if they hadn’t completely figured out their feelings, right now, their hearts were totally in sync.
When Stella went to eat, Jordan just kept watching her with eyes full of deep affection, unable to look away.
“Why are you staring at me like that?” Stella pouted, feeling a bit shy under his gaze. She was so flustered by his gaze that she couldn’t help but feel embarrassed.
“I just want to look at you like this forever,” Jordan said. Before, he always had to sneak glances at her, careful not to get caught. But now, he could finally look at her openly, without hiding it anymore, and no one could stop him.
Stella smiled as she ate and asked, “Aren’t you going to eat?”
“I just want to watch you eat,” Jordan replied.
“If you keep looking at me like that, I won’t be able to eat at all,” Stella said.
“It’s fine. I’ll eat later, and you can watch me then,” Jordan said with a grin.
Stella couldn’t help but laugh.
Mary had been quietly listening in nearby, and seeing these two suddenly become so lovey–dovey made her genuinely happy.
Back when Eleanor was alive, she used to say that Jordan must really like Stella, and if those two ever ended up together, Stella would be the happiest girl in the world.
Mary had once listened to Eleanor talk about Jordan’s past. He was a boy who’d been through so much, and he needed love just as much as
anyone.
Mary was sure that if Stella and Jordan were together, they’d be happy for the rest of their lives.
Stella never imagined that just agreeing to give it a try would turn Jordan into such a lovesick puppy.
Even though she was heading to the office, he insisted on taking her. The whole way, he never let go of her hand, shooting her little smiles every now and then.
She was getting more and more flustered by how sweet he was being.
Jordan grinned and said, “Better get used to it, I’m probably going to be even clingier from now on.”
“You’ll get bored with looking at me eventually,” Stella teased.
“Not a chance,” Jordan replied. He knew deep down that from the moment he lost his family, Stella was the only one left who truly cared about him. So he would never get tired of her.
He wanted to cherish her forever. Even a whole lifetime with her wouldn’t be enough. He wished he could be with her for ten lifetimes over.

When she got to the office, Nola Immediately noticed that Stella seemed different today. “Ms. Hayes, you seem to be in a really good mood today.” Nola said.
Stella looked at her and said, “Yeah. Nola, have you ever been in a relationship?”

“Honestly, I never thought I’d ever be able to fall in love again, but now it really feels like I am,” Stella said.
Nola was a little puzzled. ‘Wait, isn’t she already married? And I just heard Mr. Erwin personally dropped her off. Does she actually have that kind of feeling for Mr. Erwin? But Nola didn’t ask any more questions.
Later that day, when Stella went out to run some errands, she unexpectedly ran into Monroe again. But Stella didn’t notice him. Monroe was
the one who spotted her first.
Just as Stella got out of the car, she saw an old lady fall not too far away. The people passing by acted like they didn’t even see her, but Stella, despite being unsteady on her feet, rushed over and helped the old lady up.
She asked patiently, “Ma’am, are you okay? Are you feeling alright? Do you want me to take you to the hospital?”
The old lady clearly wasn’t the type to fake an injury for money. She smiled, “No, no, it’s fine. Just helping me up is more than enough. So many people just walked by and ignored me. I thought I was going to die here.
“You’re a good girl, dear. Good people like you will always be blessed.”
“Are you really sure you don’t need me to take you to the hospital?” Stella asked again, still worried.
“No, it’s just an old injury. I’m old, you know. Don’t worry about me. You go ahead and do what you need to do,” the old lady said.
Stella didn’t push it any further. As she turned to leave, she kept glancing back to make sure the old lady didn’t fall again. Her worried expression was so genuine. It was clear she wasn’t just putting on a show.
That was completely different from Anna. The last time Monroe had gone out with Anna, they’d seen an old lady fall on the ground, and Anna had just walked right past her like she didn’t even notice.
Monroe had always thought Anna was kind. So he had wanted to ask her why she ignored that old lady. Monroe actually wanted to help, too. After all, if Anna hadn’t helped him before, he wouldn’t even be here now.
