Chapter 29 You’re the Father?
“Correct.”
Sharon finally realized who had been targeting her all this time-it was Brendon, Xavier’s friend.
She was this close to quitting.
But not yet.
Right now, she had to get to the hospital.
Her mom had messaged her, saying they were on their way to Becky’s place, but Sharon was still worried.
Brendon thought Sharon would explode when she found out he was the boss behind the scenes. Instead, she brushed past him and ran off.
Then, just a moment later, she came running back.
“Give me Xavier’s number.”
Brendon gave a mocking laugh. He knew Becky hadn’t let go of Xavier.
“What for? Trying to set up some opportunity for Becky? Waste of time.”
Sharon grabbed him by the collar and shouted, “Cut the crap! Just tell me!”
Brendon froze for two seconds, face twisted with anger. “Let go! Don’t think I won’t do something just because you’re a woman. If you still want your job, you better-”
“Shut up! I need to tell him something important.”
Brendon laughed bitterly.
This woman was seriously suicidal. She just told her boss to shut up.
Hilarious.
Their coworkers stood around, watching wide-eyed, jaws nearly hitting the floor.
Sharon was furious. She had no patience for Brendon’s games. She shoved him away, throwing one last sentence over her shoulder before running off.
Brendon was stunned.
Sharon had said, “Tell Xavier that Becky’s having his baby. She’s in labor right now. If he still has a conscience, he better get over there.”
Brendon didn’t want to believe it, but Becky and Xavier had been married for two months. And Becky had drugged Xavier before the wedding. It was totally possible she’d gotten pregnant.
That woman was devious.

She knew Xavier wouldn’t want the baby, so she disappeared and waited until the very end to drop this bomb on them.
Xavier got Brendon’s call.
Clatter.
His pen hit the floor.
“Which hospital?”
“Sharon didn’t say.”
“Find out. Now.”
Brendon knew Xavier well. He was holding back.
He didn’t dare waste time. As soon as he hung up, he started looking into which hospital Becky was delivering at.
He grinned to himself. Becky was done for.
She dared to secretly give birth to his child? Xavier would crush her like an ant.
Kevin had never seen Xavier lose it like this.
He rushed out of the company, completely ignoring Kevin’s calls. The man looked like he was about to fall apart.
Outside the delivery room, everyone was anxiously waiting.
Jose looked up and saw Xavier, eyes darkening. “What are you doing here?”
Xavier ignored him and walked straight to the doors. Inside, Becky’s agonized screams could be heard.
His chest tightened like a vice. His eyes turned red.
“How long has she been in there?”
His voice shook.
Sharon didn’t bother responding. She was too annoyed.
Mary tugged on Sharon’s arm and whispered, “Who’s that?”
Sharon snorted. “Scumbag.”
Xavier didn’t react. His eyes stayed locked on the door like he was trying to burn a hole through it.
For the first time in his life, he was panicking.
He’d signed off on billion-dollar projects without breaking a sweat. But this? This was unbearable.

Mary started to get a sense of who he was. Probably Becky’s ex-husband.
Seeing how worried he was, she said, “She’s been in there about two hours.”
Xavier frowned.
That long?
He was getting antsy.
“Why is it taking so long?”
Mary replied, “Labor usually takes a while. Especially the first time. When I had Sharon, it took over a day.”
Sharon suddenly hugged her. “Mom!”
Mary laughed and patted her back. “Now you know how much I went through to have you. Don’t go stressing me out again.”
Sharon blinked. “I’m your sweet little girl!”
Xavier imagined Becky in that kind of pain for a whole day-or longer-and his frustration only grew.
Just then, the doors opened.
A nurse stepped out. “The mother’s exhausted. One family member can go in to support her.”
Sharon and Jose both jumped up.
“I’ll go!”
“Let me!”
Xavier glanced at them. When his eyes landed on Jose, there was a dangerous glint.
Then he turned back, leaving no room for discussion. “I’m going in.”
The nurse hesitated. “It’s best if the baby’s father goes in.”
“I am the baby’s father,” Xavier said firmly.
The nurse led Xavier inside.
Jose stood frozen for two minutes before turning to Sharon. “Wait… the baby’s really Xavier’s?”
“Yeah.”
Jose’s shoulders slumped. “So Becky never remarried? It was Xavier the whole time?”
Sharon nodded and patted his shoulder. “Don’t be discouraged. They’re divorced. You still have a shot.”
Jose stared blankly at the delivery room.

Right. They were divorced.
He still had a chance to go after Becky. She was single. He wouldn’t even be a homewrecker anymore.
Inside, Becky looked up and saw Xavier in scrubs and thought she was hallucinating.
Xavier’s eyes locked onto her, dark and unreadable.
