two maternity nannies.

They immediately stepped forward and took the shopping bags from Jose’s hands.
Jose could only watch them leave, seething; he let out a curse under his breath.
He wanted to chase after them, but at the thought of Ella, he held himself back.
Yulia stood frozen in place, dazed, her nails nearly digging into her palms.
Xavier shoved Becky into the car.
The nannies kept silent and took James into another Rolls–Royce. When did Xavier call the car? He couldn’t have come out with two separate rides…
This damn man, always acting like someone owes him something.
Becky pressed herself against the car door, trying to keep as much distance from Xavier as possible.
Xavier glanced at her, then closed his eyes and massaged his temples.
Randall started the car.
In a quiet voice, Becky said, “Ms. Yulia’s still at the mall. Aren’t you going to wait for her?”
Xavier ignored her.
Becky continued, “Did you two have a fight? Ms. Yulia was crying her eyes out; she looked so heartbroken. Aren’t you going to go comfort her?”
Xavier stayed silent.
“You love her and she loves you,” Becky added. “As the man in the relationship, you should be the bigger person, give in a little, comfort her. Girls need to be coaxed. This whole macho act? Not a good look. As her boyfriend, what you did today wasn’t right–especially getting tangled up with your ex–wife in front of her. Of course she’s upset.”
She wasn’t dumb, Yulia’s gaze toward her had been anything but friendly.
Especially in the restaurant, where she’d made that backhanded comment about how having a baby aged
women.
Clearly, Xavier was the root of all this drama.
And since she was already divorced from him, Becky had no intention of getting involved again.
“How about you let me out here?” she suggested. “You can go back for Ms. Yulia.”

Xavier opened his eyes and spoke coldly. “Stop the car.”
Randall pulled over to the side of the road.
Becky reached for the door, thrilled–only to be yanked back and slammed into Xavier’s chest.

Chapter 43 My Baby, My Rules
She winced in pain. “Xavier, can you not be so rough? Try being a little gentle for once?”
Xavier looked toward Randall. “Out.”
Randall quickly got out and even made sure to stand a good distance away.
Only then did Xavier lower his head and look at Becky.

“You think I’m too rough? Jose’s gentle, is that it?”
His face was close, his breath hot against her skin.
His voice was low and dangerous.
Becky tried to pull back, but he dragged her right back in.
“Tell me, who’s the gentle one?”
Becky was mortified.
If she said Jose, would Xavier strangle her?
For the sake of survival, she lied through her teeth. “You–you’re gentle.”
“Really?”
“Really, really.”
Xavier gave her cheek two light pats–like he was praising a dog.
“Can you let go of me now?” Becky asked. “We can talk like normal people.”
Xavier held her gaze for a long second, then finally let go.
As soon as she was free, Becky reached for the door again.
No way was she staying in a confined space with this lunatic.
But Xavier easily dragged her back again. “So disobedient. How should I punish you?”
“I’ll behave,” Becky pleaded.
“Really?”
“Mhm. Totally.”
Xavier stared at her a moment longer, then said, “I’m not with Yulia.”
“Huh?” Becky looked up, startled.
“I thought you two were madly in love. Why aren’t you together? What’s standing in your way?” Xavier’s expression soured; he stared at her like she was an idiot.
Becky blinked her big, doll–like eyes. “Come on, tell me. Maybe I can help analyze the situation.”

The car went quiet for a few seconds.
Xavier clenched his jaw. “Becky, is this your new trick? Trying to piss me off?”
Becky rolled her eyes. “You’re the one who can’t control your emotions.”

Xavier ground his teeth.
This woman had a gift for driving him over the edge.
“I swear, I could strangle you!”
Becky shrank back, watching him warily.
“That’s illegal.”
“Besides, if you kill me, James won’t have a mom.”
“I’m still his dad,” Xavier retorted.
“And I could always find him a stepmom.”
Becky’s eyes widened. “No way! My son only has one mom–me! Xavier, you’re a monster. You’d seriously give my baby a stepmother to abuse him? You heartless jerk!”
“Who says stepmoms are abusive? Yulia wouldn’t be.”
Becky went speechless.
Just the thought of James calling Yulia “Mom” made her sick.
“No way! I don’t want Yulia as my son’s stepmom!”
Xavier’s lips curled. “But you sure seem eager for me and Yulia to get married.”
Becky said nothing.
She swore to herself, from now on, she would keep her mouth shut.
Xavier could be with whoever the heck he wanted.
“I seem to remember someone once said she liked me–a lot. That her whole heart and soul belonged to me.” Xavier’s voice dropped, probing. “Becky, how come I can’t see that in your eyes anymore?”
If Becky was acting, then her performance was Oscar–worthy.
Xavier’s dark eyes locked onto her, watching her every expression.
Becky’s heart skipped a beat; she instinctively avoided his gaze.
Xavier tilted her chin up with his fingers. “Well? What game are you playing now?”
Becky slapped his hand away.
She’d had enough. It was time to end this.
