Chapter 48 Don’t Touch Me, Xavier
Henry barked, “You think you’re in the right here?”
Lilian chimed in, “Since you knew you were pregnant, why did you even get a divorce?”
Becky lied, “I didn’t find out I was pregnant until after the divorce.”.
“Then why didn’t you tell us?”

“I mean… we were already divorced. There was no need to tell anyone. Having the baby was my own choice.”
Yvonne snapped, “Nonsense! You lying thud! You only had that baby to trap my brother, shameless! You’ll do anything to cling to him!”
Becky retorted, “What, are you a mind reader now? You think you know everything? You must feel so impressive.”
Yvonne fired back, “I don’t even need to think to see through your disgusting little schemes. Becky, my brother must’ve done something horrible in a past life to end up entangled with someone like you.”
Becky kept repeating to herself. She’s an idiot. Don’t stoop to her level. She’s not worth it.
It was the only reason she hadn’t slapped the girl across the face twice.
Henry asked, “So what’s your plan?”
Becky replied, “I know you’re worried I’ll use the baby to manipulate Xavier, but that’s not going to happen; I promise. You’re overthinking it. I had the baby; I’ll raise him myself.”
Lilian didn’t buy it.
She and Yvonne were of the same mind.
She’d seen the way Becky looked at her son–how much she adored him.
There was no way she wouldn’t try to use the child to hold on. Becky was just saying what they wanted to hear. If they actually believed her, they’d be falling for her act.
“This place, Xavier bought it for you, didn’t he? And the baby nurses? He hired her too, right?”
She knew Becky didn’t have any income. When they divorced, Becky didn’t get a cent in the settlement. There was no way she could afford to buy, or even rent, a place like this.
And certainly not pay for baby nurses on her own.
It was obvious she was relying on Xavier for everything.

Becky didn’t know how to respond.

As for the baby nurses, Xavier had paid for her too.
“He’s the child’s father. Isn’t it only right he helps out a little?” she said.
Lilian replied. “But you chose to have this baby. You said yourself the child is yours alone, that he has nothing to do with the Bolton family. If that’s the case, why are you using Xavier’s money?”
Yvonne clapped; her mom was ruthless–just a few sentences and Becky was speechless.
So satisfying!
Henry said, “Becky, Bolton family hasn’t treated you poorly. But after everything you’ve done, I’m honestly disappointed. As for the child, let this be the end of it. Consider the apartment your compensation. And the baby nurses? I don’t see the need. You’re not working; you can take care of him yourself. Bottom line, you and Xavier are divorced. I don’t want to see you clinging to him anymore.”
Becky looked at the three of them and let out a laugh. “You done? Then get out.”
Henry and Lilian were prideful people; being kicked out like that, they didn’t stay a second longer, both their faces soured.
Yvonne cursed as she left. Becky raised a foot and kicked her square in the butt, sending her stumbling out the door. With a loud bang, Becky slammed it shut.
Outside, Yvonne’s screeching could be heard, along with Lilian’s concerned voice.
Abigail couldn’t help but mutter, “No matter what, he’s still their grandson… they didn’t even glance at the baby. Cold–hearted, much?”
Estella, meanwhile, was silently panicking. Are we about to get fired?
Becky locked herself in her room.
For the first time, she felt utterly powerless.
No matter how she explained herself, no one ever believed her.
Xavier glanced at the calendar–it was Teacher Appreciation Day.
He smirked slightly, picked up his phone, and sent Becky a money transfer through Venmo.
An hour later, he noticed she still hadn’t accepted it. That struck him as odd.
She usually accepted within seconds.
He figured she was probably busy at the traditional medicine clinic and hadn’t seen it yet.
He didn’t think much of it.
But by the time he went to bed that night, the payment still hadn’t been claimed.
That’s when he realized something was off.
The next morning, Becky fed James, then headed out for work.
Just as she reached the bottom of her building, Xavier’s Rolls–Royce pulled un inf

The window rolled down, revealing Xavier’s cold, sharp face. “Get in.”
Becky glanced at him, then walked right past the car.
Xavier was stunned.
His brow twitched; he opened the car door and followed her.
Grabbing her slender wrist, he forced her to stop. Becky turned, glaring at him with fury.
Xavier froze.

She looked like a storm ready to break, eyes blazing with fury. But if he looked closer, beneath the anger was something else.
What’s going on?” he asked.
Suddenly, Becky shouted, “Everyone keeps telling me to stop clinging to you. When have I ever clung to you? When? Tell me!”
Her eyes were red; tears welled up but refused to fall. Her lips were pressed tightly together, and the tip of her nose trembled.
Xavier reached out to touch her face, but she slapped his hand away. “Don’t touch me!”
He didn’t try again; his voice softened. “Tell me what happened. Why are you like this all of a sudden? Did someone come by?”
Xavier was sharp–he figured it out immediately.
Becky didn’t plan to hide it. “Your parents and Yvonne came. They know about the baby.”
