Chapter 62 I Want to Marry You

Becky listened for a while and felt that Sharon, her godmother, acted more like a real mom, already scheming for James‘ future.
Meanwhile, she, his actual mother, just wanted a peaceful, quiet life for the two of them.
“Becky, are you even listening to me?”
Becky gave a half–hearted grunt in response.
Sharon said, “If you’re listening, then do something about it; don’t let them get engaged.”
Becky rolled her eyes. “Do I even have the right to say no?”
“Use that shameless persistence you were so good at before.”
That was the original Becky’s thing, I don’t do that.
“No way!”
Sharon was about to lose her mind.
The whole reason she’d told Xavier about Becky’s child was for this exact purpose.
James was a rich heir, why should he suffer out there? Xavier didn’t deserve to get lucky like that.
“Come on, just give it a shot. Turn your ex into your husband again; saves you the grind.”
“Sharon, I firmly believe money I earn myself feels better to spend. As for men, I don’t need one right now.”
Sharon couldn’t convince her and hung up, frustrated.
“I thought Becky was the only schemer, but turns out you’re not bad either–already planning to steal someone else’s assets.”
Sharon turned and saw Brendon standing casually on the steps.
She had come all the way to the emergency stairwell just to make this call, yet she still ran into Brendon. This bastard’s like a haunting ghost, he won’t leave me alone!
Since he’d already overheard everything, Sharon didn’t bother hiding it. “Mind your own business. I’m not after your inheritance.”
Brendon flicked away his cigarette and walked down the steps, hands in his pockets.
He’d scolded her so harshly over the past few weeks that Sharon had grown numb. She wasn’t afraid of him anymore; her body had developed a rebellious instinct, and she stared him down without flinching.
Her look practically dared him. Come at me, if you’ve got the guts.
Brendon sneered and walked right up to her, looking down from above.
Sharon scoffed. What’s the point of being that tall? Makes me crane my neck just to look at you. Stiff as hell.
Brendon reached out and tilted her chin, voice dripping with disdain. “If you want to go after my

Sharon slapped his hand away. “I’m not interested in your damn inheritance, okay?”
Brendon gave a low chuckle. “Too bad you’ll never get the chance.”
“You could hand it to me, and I’d still walk away.”
“Hypocritical woman!”
“Narcissistic man!”
“Sharon, you sure you still want this job?”
“I never did. You’re the one who wouldn’t let me quit.”
Brendon went quiet.
Sharon couldn’t wait to get out of Cloudreach Group. Every second here felt like torture; like she was dying a slow death.
Brendon snorted and pushed open the stairwell door, walking out.
Sharon waved her fists behind his back, baring her teeth.
She really wanted to punch him.
Meanwhile, at Glory Corp, Kevin stood in front of the desk, talking for a long time, but Xavier didn’t respond. His eyes were glued to his phone.
Kevin finally stopped.
He asked instead, “Mr. Bolton, are you waiting for someone’s call?”
Xavier looked up, his long, narrow eyes sweeping over Kevin.
Kevin shut his mouth immediately. Got it. Shouldn’t have asked.
He quickly changed the subject. “Mr. Bolton, Melanov Group covered up a food safety incident from a month ago. Only a few small media outlets reported it at the time, but they were paid off to bury the story. I had someone dig into it–they haven’t resolved the root issue. There’s still a major safety risk. If we inject funds now, it’s risky.”
Xavier tapped his fingers on the desk a few times.
Kevin stayed quiet; he knew that tapping was the prelude to an outburst.
Sure enough, a minute later, Xavier shoved Melanov Group’s documents off the desk.
“They lied. Then forget it.”
Kevin bent down, picked up the files, and walked out.
Melanov Group was out.
Xavier hated dishonesty more than anything.

Melanov Group was a food and beverage company, mainly selling bubble tea. Over the past two years, they’d launched two viral brands and were growing fast.
Two months ago, Huisheng had reached a tentative deal to invest in them.
The safety scandal broke a month after the deal was made, and Melanov Group kept it under wraps.
Kevin could only think. Serves them right.
Xavier picked up his phone again. Still no messages or cålls from her. By now, she should’ve seen it. Did she really not have anything to ask me?
Frustrated, he pressed the intercom and called Kevin back in.
“I want a public statement issued under my name.”
Kevin froze. “About what?”
“My father’s engagement announcement. I want a statement saying it’s not true.”
Kevin went quiet. Mr. Bolton’s clearly dead set on taking responsibility for Ms. Quinn now.
No wonder when he congratulated Mr. Bolton that morning, he got chewed out for it.
“Hurry up,” Xavier said impatiently.
Kevin quickly ducked out.
As soon as Xavier’s statement went public, the internet exploded.
People were going wild, especially in high society.
The wealthy socialites who had once dreamed of marrying Xavier were now mocking Yulia.
Some even posted screenshots of the statement on their social media to ridicule her.
Yulia had those women on WhatsApp; she could see everything.
Devastated, she buried herself under the covers and cried.
Then she called Xavier.
Xavier answered.
Through tears, she choked out, “If you’re unhappy with me, just say it to my face. Why post that kind of statement? You’ve made me the laughingstock of all Dracovia!”
