Chapter 64 Stop Melting and Eat It
Becky replied, “It didn’t do anything to you.”
“I just don’t like the look of it. Got a problem with that?”
“Nope, as long as you’re not mad at me, we’re good.”
Xavier went silent. Damn it, this woman is going to drive me insane.
“Well, anyway, you’re in a bad mood, so we’ll talk another time. I’m heading out. Bye.”
Becky slung her purse over her shoulder and strolled off, light as a feather.
Xavier clenched his back molars and followed her.
Becky turned her head. “If you’re feeling down, go do something relaxing. Why are you trailing me?”

Xavier said, “We were married, lived together for years, if there’s no love left, there’s still some kind of bond, right? I’m in a bad mood; can’t you try to cheer me up?”
Becky tilted her head, thinking it over. Fair enough… maybe I should show a little care?
“How about I treat you to some ice cream?”
Five minutes later, both of them were holding popsicles.
Xavier stared at Becky, watching as she handed over exactly 1 dollar to pay. He had never eaten anything so cheap in his life. Is this gonna give me food poisoning?
“I thought you said ice cream. How’d it turn into a popsicle?”
Ice cream cost a bit more than popsicles.
Becky giggled and licked her popsicle–sweet, cold, and incredibly refreshing.
“Old–school popsicles taste better. Try it.”
Xavier thought. She’s so stingy.
He noticed his popsicle was melting fast and about to drip. Before he could react, Becky leaned over in a panic and licked it.
In the process, she accidentally licked his fingers.
A jolt of electricity shot through Xavier’s body; he froze, heart pounding.
“You…”
He looked at Becky, stunned.
Her face flushed with embarrassment.
“It’s your fault for not eating it–I saw it was about to drip, so I just…”
Licked it. She thought.

Surprisingly, Xavier didn’t make a big deal out of it. Instead, he leaned down and ficked the spot she had just touched.
“Not bad.”
Becky didn’t see what he’d done.
Feeling proud of herself, she beamed. “Right? I told you it’s good.”
Xavier’s lips curved slightly.
The two of them strolled along, munching on their popsicles.
Becky couldn’t help but start chatting.
“Back in school, I had this classmate whose family ran a convenience store. I used to wait at her house in the mornings so we could walk to school together. She’d always be eating instant noodles with a fried egg on top. It made my mouth water. After school, she’d suck on one of these old popsicles right next to me, and I’d just stare, drooling. She laughed at me for it.”
That classmate was just a classmate. Still, Becky had distanced herself in case she ever gave in to the temptation of snatching the popsicle out of her hands.
Xavier asked, “Which classmate? How come I never heard about her?”
Becky went quiet.
“And it’s not like we couldn’t afford noodles. The fridge always had ice cream. Why didn’t you…”
Then it hit him.
“You’re talking about when you were in Moonridge Village?”
Moonridge Village was where the original Becky had lived with her grandmother, Jade.
Becky gave a vague response. “Yeah.”
But that wasn’t true. It was from her past life. Xavier didn’t know much about how Becky had lived in the Moonridge Village.
So she’d had it that rough, couldn’t even afford a cheap popsicle.
He handed over what was left of his.
“Here, have mine.”
Becky had already finished hers.
But she wrinkled her nose. “No thanks. It’s covered in your spit.”
Xavier went quiet. We’ve literally slept together, what’s a little spit?
But now wasn’t the time for that kind of comment; Becky would blow up.
“Fine, don’t eat it. I’ll finish it myself.”

And he did, two bites and it was gone.
Becky was still chewing on the popsicle stick.
Xavier snatched it out of her mouth and tossed it into the trash.
Becky smacked her lips. I was still enjoying that. Even the stick tastes sweet.

Xavier chuckled. “If you like it, I’ll buy you more next time. But don’t overdo it–cold stuff’s not great for you.”
Becky didn’t reply.
When they got to the bottom of her apartment building, Xavier didn’t go upstairs.
“I’ve got something to do, so I’m not coming up.”
Even though he knew Becky probably hoped he wouldn’t come up, he still felt the need to explain.
Back at home, Becky found Abigail packing a suitcase.
“Abigail, what’s going on?”
Abigail turned to her, face anxious and tear–streaked.
“Ms. Quinn, you’re back! I was just about to call you. My husband–he was working at the construction site and fell from a building. They say it’s bad. I have to get there right away.”
Becky rushed over to help her pack.
“Abigail, don’t panic. Did you get a ticket yet?”
“No, I was planning to go to the station. I don’t know how to buy online.”
Becky pulled out her phone. “Give me your ID number–I’ll get it for you.”
“Thank you, Ms. Quinn!”
Abigail scrambled to grab her ID and handed it over. Becky booked her the earliest available train.
“Abigail, you don’t need a paper ticket. Just scan your ID to board. I’ve sent the train info to your WhatsApp.”
“Thank you so much, Ms. Quinn! But what about you–who’s going to take care of you while I’m gone?”
