Chapter 66 Don’t Leave Me With Him
Becky didn’t look up; her gaze stayed fixed on James.
“Once you become a mom, you’ll get more diligent too.”
Sharon pictured the scene and gave a little shudder.
“Forget it. I’m not even thirty–no way I’m getting married before then!”
“Don’t worry. It won’t be long before your parents start nagging you and setting up blind dates.”
“Blind dates?”
Sharon mulled that over, her eyes flicking over to Becky, a mischievous gleam in them.
After breakfast at Becky’s place, Sharon rushed home in a hurry.
Becky took James downstairs to soak up some sun.
They strolled for a bit, picked up some groceries, then headed home. Life with a baby was a cycle of repetition, feeding, changing diapers, rocking him to sleep…
But Becky didn’t find it dull; she actually enjoyed the simplicity and quiet of it all.

The next day, Sharon invited Becky out to eat. Becky got herself ready, packed a diaper bag, and pushed James in his stroller to a Chinese restaurant in the mall.
As soon as she stepped inside, Sharon waved her over.
“Over here!”
Becky pushed the stroller in her direction.
That’s when she noticed Sharon had invited a man as well. He wore black–rimmed glasses and had the shy, awkward look of a software guy.
The man stood up and awkwardly extended his hand. “Becky, long time no see.”
Becky was completely baffled. Do I know him?
She couldn’t recall him at all.
She gave him a polite, strained smile.
Sharon noticed her confusion and leaned in to whisper, “That’s Aaron, our high school classmate. You don’t remember?”
Becky gave a short laugh. “Aaron! Wow, it’s been ages. What are you doing here?”
Aaron smiled shyly again but didn’t respond.
Sharon motioned for everyone to sit.
A waiter came by to remind them to order.

“I got it!” Sharon said, pulling out her phone.
She quickly placed the order, then stood up. “I’m gonna run to the bathroom. You two talk.”
Once she left. Becky and Aaron sat in awkward silence.
Becky couldn’t take it anymore and broke the ice. “Are you a programmer?”
Aaron’s eyes lit up. “How’d you know?”
“Just a guess.”

“I work at a software company, make about sixty grand a year, and it’s going up. I’ve got a small two- bedroom place on a mortgage and a domestic car paid in full. My parents both work and haven’t retired yet, so I won’t have to support them later.”
Becky was stunned. What is this pitch? It felt suspiciously like a matchmaking monologue.
She gave a stiff little laugh. Honestly, she still had no memory of what Aaron looked like in high school- maybe the original Becky barely noticed him back then.
Not knowing what else to say, she offered, “Sounds like you’ve got things together.”
Aaron misread that entirely and smiled again, just as shyly.
Becky could barely stand his expression.
She glanced toward the restroom. What’s wrong with Sharon? What’s taking her so long?
At that moment, Sharon was sitting on the toilet, calling Brendon.
Brendon stared at his phone in disbelief when he saw the caller ID.
“Sharon?”
“Yup, it’s me.”
He went silent for a few seconds. “What do you want?”
“Nothing really, just thought I’d call and chat.”
“Are you insane? Who wants to chat with you?”
“C’mon, just a little conversation.”
Brendon’s brow twitched. “What do you want to talk about?”
Sharon replied, “The weather’s really nice today.”
Brendon was speechless.
“Bright sun, crisp autumn breeze… perfect day for a walk.”
“Sharon, are you okay? Did you hit your head or something?”
“Nope.”

Tim hanging up.”

“Don’t! The weather’s so nice—don’t you want to come hang out with ine? I’m at Building A, third floor. Ningde Plaza.”
Brendon was silent.
He was convinced Sharon had lost her mind. Are we even on hanging out terms? And seriously, this woman had guts, how dare she invite me out?
In response to Sharon’s invitation, he coolly replied with just two words, “Not going.”
Sharon didn’t press him. She sighed theatrically. “Really not coming? Ugh, I’m bored out of my mind. Becky’s on a blind date, and I’m just the third wheel, totally miserable.”
“Wait, what? Who’s on a blind date?”
“My bestie Becky.”
Brendon practically exploded. “How dare she?”
“She’s been divorced for a while now–what’s wrong with finding a guy? And the guy she’s seeing today is
one of our old high school classmates. He really likes her, doesn’t even mind that she has a kid. He’s a great guy. I think they’re a good match.”
Brendon clenched his teeth. “You’re both dead.”
With that, he hung up.
Sharon curled her lips into a sly smile. Mission accomplished.
She didn’t bother going back out, just sat there and played a few rounds of mobile games.
Meanwhile, Becky was still stuck in painfully awkward conversation with Aaron.
He did most of the talking; she tossed in the occasional unrelated comment.
After what felt like forever, Sharon finally returned.
She sat down next to Becky and gave her waist a little pinch.
Sharon let out a yelp.
“What’s wrong?” Aaron asked, puzzled.
Under Becky’s warning glare, Sharon quickly shook her head. “Nothing–just a sudden cramp in my side.”
