Chapter 70 Don’t Push Victoria at Me
Randall was absolutely delighted. He only acts like a real human being when he’s with Ms. Quinn. It was actually kind of entertaining.
With Abigail gone, Xavier was in high spirits. He took off his suit jacket and lounged casually on the sofa, arms folded behind his head, watching as Becky placed James into the crib.
Becky turned to him. “You should probably head out now.”
Xavier said, “I’ve made up my mind, until Abigail gets back, I’m staying here to help you take care of James.”
“Absolutely not!”
Becky didn’t even pause before rejecting him.
Xavier replied, “Yes, you do. He’s my son too. Taking care of him is my responsibility.”
Oh, so now it’s your responsibility when it’s convenient to use me? James chuckled silently.
Becky opened her mouth to argue again, but Xavier cut her off, “It’s settled. Just let me know what you need me to do.”
Becky watched him make a phone call, asking someone to bring over his personal essentials.
When he finished the call, he looked up and said, “I’ll sleep on the fold–out bed. Just don’t try to sneak into it tonight and bother me.”
Becky’s eyes went wide. “Me bother you?”
Xavier raised a brow. “It’s not like you haven’t tried before.”
God help me!I’ve never been so wrongly accused in my life! Becky screamed internally.
“If you didn’t stay here, you wouldn’t have to worry about that.”
Xavier hesitated, then sighed. “Fine. I’ll endure it, for James.”
Fuming, Becky stormed into the bedroom. She wanted to slam the door, but worried it would scare James, so she swallowed her anger and held it in.
Xavier smirked.
He glanced at the crib. This little guy’s more useful than I thought.
Becky plopped onto the bed with her new phone and played a few rounds of mobile games to vent her frustration.
Not long after, she heard a knock on the door. Xavier went to open it and then shut it again.
Becky guessed it was someone dropping off his things.
She started feeling drowsy and dozed off for a bit.
When she came out, she saw Xavier on the couch, working on his laptop.
He looked up when he saw her. “Hungry?”
Becky didn’t hold back. “Starving. You cooking?”
“Sure.”
Xavier put his laptop down and headed to the kitchen.
Finished
Becky glanced over and saw him rummaging through the fridge and rinsing ingredients like he knew what he was doing..
She left him to it and went to check on James.
Still her sweet baby boy, soft, plump, and perfect.
Forty minutes later, dinner was on the table.
Becky wasn’t surprised.
This man had once taken a whole month of cooking lessons just for the original her.
She sat down and started eating.
The food decent, not nearly as good as hers–but Becky had always been someone who appreciated the
gesture.
She was just happy someone had cooked for her.
As a child, she’d envied kids who had parents to make them warm meals.
Xavier hadn’t cooked in a while and was a little worried he’d messed up the flavors.
But Becky ate with real enthusiasm, trying everything on the table.
He finally relaxed.
He sat down and took a bite himself. Pretty mediocre.
But the girl across from him was still willing to give him face.
After dinner, he cleared the table and went into the kitchen to wash the dishes.
Becky made James a bottle; once he’d eaten, she wheeled him downstairs for a walk.
Xavier tagged along.
Neighbors around the complex did a double take when they saw Becky walking with such a tall, handsome man who radiated class.
Everyone knew Becky had gotten divorced and was raising her baby alone. She’d even gone through her entire pregnancy by herself.
“Ms. Quinn, who’s this handsome gentleman?”
It was one of the nosy women from the next building over–the kind who couldn’t go a day without poking into someone else’s business.
pawry, the worsen hard cararred her and aided. “Where’s pour husband Yox/re
Becky hardn’t thought much of it as the time and answered honestly. Tim divorced”
That opened the Boodgates. The worms hadn’t stopped asking questions since–why the divorced, deals on her family going back three generatio….
I had freaked Becky out. After that, she always made a point to avoid her.
Bar tonight, she hadn’t been paying attention and got caught again.
Becky answered, “He’s James father”
The woman clapped her hunds “Your ex–husband?”
Xavier frowned. Who can is this women? So loud so mory.
Completely oblivious to his irritation, the woman beamed and asked, “Such a handsome young man, what a shame to be divorced. What does he do for work?”
She could tell from Xavier’s tailored clothes that he came from money
Her brain was already crunching numbers.
A man like this would still be a catch, even for a second marriage.
And her daughter, unemployed and single well into adulthood, juu huppened to be in need of a husband.
Becky answered, “He owns a company”
The woman looked even more pleased. A business mer? That meant serious monry. A meal jackpot
Just then, her daughter shuffed over in slippers, munching on a sausage.
The womancalled out loudly, “Victoria Come here?”
The girl named Victoria, sturdy and broad–shouldered, wiped her mouth on her sleeve when she saw Xavier and shyly walked over
The woman pushed her daughter forward.
“Young man, this is my daagher, Victoria Look at her build–she’s got a real trosed look. She’s never had a boyfriend, never even been in a relationship Super pure. The perfect gurl to settle down with.”
