Jose was convinced—Becky must’ve been deeply hurt by love. So much so that she’d given up on men entirely.
His eyes filled with sympathy.
“Becky, don’t be like this. Xavier isn’t the only man in the world. Just because he’s a jerk doesn’t mean all men are. There are still good guys out there–like me. Open your eyes and look at me. I love you more than he ever did.”
Becky wanted to tear her hair out.
Why didn’t this guy understand anything she said?
She shouted, “Jose!“.
Jose blinked. “What?”
“Can you listen to me for once?”
“I am listening.”
“Then stop bothering me! If you’re bored, go make money!”
Jose grabbed her hand. “Are you worried I can’t afford to support you and the baby? Don’t worry–I can. I’ll earn lots of money and give you both a good life.”
“And even if I didn’t work at all, my family’s loaded. You’ll never lack anything.”
Becky yanked her hand away and sighed in exasperation. “You’ve got something wrong in your head. We’re on completely different wavelengths. You don’t understand a single word I say. I talk horses, you talk cows. You’re driving me insane. You think this is about money?”
Jose looked a little aggrieved. “It’s not?”
Becky had no energy left to argue.
He just didn’t get it.
They stood there in awkward silence for a moment.
Jose asked, “I saw Xavier coming out of the complex earlier. He was at your place?”
Becky replied, “He’s living with me now.”
“You two got back together?” Jose asked, bitter jealousy dripping from his voice.
“No. I’m not interested in men right now,” Becky said flatly. “He’s just here to take care of James.”
Jose let out a breath of relief, then scoffed. “Him? Take care of James?”
“He’s doing okay,” Becky replied casually.
Doing okay…

Jose was seething.
That was high praise coming from her.
“You should go. I’m taking my son for a walk.”
Jose tried to follow, but Becky stopped him. “Don’t follow me.”
Jose’s foot froze mid–step.
Once she walked off, he called Jacob.
“Buy me a unit in Luminous Heights.”

Jacob groggily answered, “You already own so many properties. What do you need another one for?”
“Just do it. Don’t ask.”
“…Alright.”
Later, Jacob learned through the agent that Luminous Heights was an old, run–down complex. He couldn’t figure it out.
Why would Jose want to buy there?
Then Jose called again and specified the exact building.
Even Jacob, slow as he was, caught on.
Becky must live in that building.
Jose was trying to get close by moving in.
The next day, when Becky spotted Jose jogging around the complex, her jaw dropped.
“What are you doing?”
Jose had been running laps for over an hour, waiting to run into her.
He jogged up and said proudly, “Just getting some exercise.”
“Why here?” Becky asked.
“Because I live here now. Same building as you–one floor down.”
She had a good guess why he’d done it.
“Jose… you are so unbelievably stubborn.”
She pushed James’s stroller and walked away.
Jose trailed behind.
Becky turned. “Don’t follow me.
“I’m not following. I’m jogging.”

Chapter 78 Not Giving Up
Becky didn’t have the energy to argue. She pushed James out of the complex to buy groceries.
That evening, Becky and Xavier were eating dinner when someone knocked on the door.
Becky opened it to find Jose standing there.
She frowned. “What are you doing here?”
Jose peered inside. “Dinner smells great. I came to mooch.”
Inside, Xavier froze, spoon halfway to his mouth. His eyes lifted slowly.
Jose stepped inside with a smug look, locking eyes with Xavier as if issuing a challenge.
He walked to the kitchen, scooped himself a bowl of rice, and sat right across from Xavier.
“Wow, this is delicious!”
Becky looked up at the ceiling and sighed before shutting the door and returning to her scat.
Snap.
Something broke.
She looked up and saw Xavier had snapped his fork in half.
Cold rage was radiating off him.
Becky shrank back and quickly shoveled rice into her mouth, trying to finish fast.
But just as she stood up-
Jose pressed her shoulder and sat her right back down.
“Becky, don’t be afraid. I’ll protect you.”
Becky turned to glare at him.
You can’t even protect yourself–what are you talking about?
Xavier’s voice came low and threatening. “What are you doing here?”
“I bought a place downstairs,” Jose said smugly. “I live in this complex now.”
Xavier turned to Becky. “Did you know?”
Becky kept her head down. “I just found out today.”
“So you do know.”
“I found out this morning,” she insisted.

Then she looked up at both of them. “If you two want to fight, take it outside. Don’t break my furniture.”
Suddenly, Xavier’s anger vanished. He picked up her used fork and calmly resumed eating.
