We had come so close to loosing Amalle, and she can’t seem to grasp that. Now she is giving us the cold shoulder as we make our way towards Uncle Mike’s house. She is still trying to console Rose, as we hear tiny sniffles as we walk through the pack that is picking up the pieces after the rogue attack.
Our poor pup had been hiding in Uncle Mike and Uncle Will closet when I found her. She was terrified and at first refused to come out. When she had finally realized that it was me, she had flung her arms around my neck and refused to let go until we got to the hospital.
Now she is clinging to Ama’s neck like her little life depends on it. My heart breaks at this sight. Our mate and pup were supposed to be safe. Supposed to be able to relax and be protected. But she was left vulnerable and alone during an attack that specifically targeted her.
“Why doesn’t she understand that we wanted to protect her?‘ I growl in aggravation to Aziz.
“She
understands, but she is also a Luna, Aziz sighs. A Luna also protects her pack. It just might look different from how we protect it.”
‘But she is ours to protect, I say.
Training her, will protect her,” Zviad says.
“You too?‘ Calyx growls. ‘You wanted us to go to her. You knew something was wrong and let us ignore it.‘
“Yes, we told you that something was wrong, but you also needed to protect the pack. We would have lost more members if we hadn’t joined the fight,‘ Aziz points out.
“We thought you would have been more upset that we almost lost our mate?‘ I demand.
‘We are mad that we almost lost her!‘ Zviad growls in anger.
‘But lashing out at everyone is only push our mate away,” Aziz growls, frustration in his voice.
“I can feel your anger at me from here, even without the bond,” Ama sighs in defeat.
“Love,” Cal starts simply.
“I love you both,” she sighs, cutting of my older twin..
“Why aren’t you more angry with us?” I ask.
“Angry for what? What do you want me to be mad about?” Ama demands brokenly. “I was terrified, but not for myself. I knew you would come for me. I was terrified that they had found Rose. I was so scared that I would lose her. Then you took away my choices. You made a decision, one that would

affect Rose and I, without talking to me. But then you took your anger out on your own Gamma. A man that picked me over his own family.”
“We screwed up,” I say honestly.
“Yes, you did, and you acknowledged that. So, now I don’t know why you want me to be more upset? have plenary to be upset over, but I’m so tired of being upset. I’m tired of everything. I’m feeling very numb right now,” she tells us.
Looking at her through the bond, Ama is blank. She is feeling nothing at all right now. No anger, no happiness, no relief, nothing, she is numb.
“I just want to go home and rest. I want my pup to stop crying. I want to feel safe,” she sighs. She takes off walking again.
We soon reach the house. The front door is splintered open, with the window, that was on it, being broken. Ama’s gaze is drawn to the porch swing. The pillows are ripped open and the swing broken. She lets out a whimper. I remember how much joy she felt the first–time siting on it.
We
continue into the house. Pictures are smashed as we continue down the hall, towards the master bedroom. It looks like the one rogue enjoyed breaking things as he tried to find us.
I can hear shuffling in the bedroom. As we approach the room, Uncle Mike is there, sitting in his wheelchair as he works to right the room.
“I’m so sorry,” Ama apologizes, tears in her eyes.
“None of that,” Uncle Mike orders. He turns his wheelchair around and wheels himself closer. Uncle Mike takes one of Ama’s hands. She adjusts a now sleeping Rose, so she could hold Uncle Mike’s hand and Rose. “You and Rose are safe. I don’t care about the pictures, the walls, or even the doors. All I care about is that you two are safe. I should have never left you alone.”
Ama lets out a wet laugh. “Like I told Sam, unless you have when rogues are going to attack, it’s not your fault,” she says.

He offers our mate a smile. “I think it was time to update the family pictures anyways. I was also thinking of painting the hallway a new color,” Uncle Mike says with forced happiness.
f the “Do you need any help in here?” I ask as I look around. The dresser is shoved into the mi room, the bed is a little a skewed, and the door is busted, but other than that, the room is perfect

“No,” he sighs at me. “You go take Ama and Rose to her room. You four relax, we’ll order pizza for
dinner.”
“I’m so sorry for the trouble,” Ama says as she fights back a hiccup.

“Shh, you did nothing wrong. Go rest and I will let you know when dinner is here,” Uncle Mike says with a smile.
