After leaving Channing’s office, Savannah sat at her workstation and worked diligently.
As her scheduled appointment with the hospital drew near, she gathered her things and was ready to leave. Just then, Lucas suddenly appeared.
Aware of Savannah and Channing’s relationship, he wore a troubled expression while intercepting his boss” wife. “Anna, Mr. Muir says you’re only pretending to be sick, so he prohibits you from taking a leave of absence.”
Savannah was speechless, thinking, “Fine, Channing still remembers I haven’t taken the headache medicine, so it’s understandable he would think I’m faking my illness to slack off from work.”
Fortunately, her appointment was valid until the hospital’s end of the day.
Savannah responded politely, “Okay, I won’t leave early. I’ll leave after work.”
“If I take a taxi and ask the driver to go faster, I should make it to the doctor in time,” she thought.
However, Channing had already predicted her plans.
Lucas grew increasingly troubled. “Anna, Mr. Muir has also assigned a lot of work for you and only allows you to leave after you finish them. Otherwise, you can’t leave, even after everyone in the company has left.
Savannah was rendered speechless.
Instead of giving Lucas a response, Savannah stared at him silently.
After an extended pause, she had no choice but to return to her workstation. Clenching her teeth, she retrieved her phone and canceled the appointment, giving up the slot for those in greater need.
However, the assignments Channing had viciously saddled her with far exceeded her capacity.
In the end, Savannah only completed her work after everyone had left. She shut down her computer and took a taxi home.
Unexpectedly, Channing did not return home that night either. When Savannah arrived home, she found only Gilbert and two other housekeepers waiting for her, busy warming up food.
Not wanting to keep them from their well–deserved rest, Savannah quickly consumed a few mouthfuls of food before heading upstairs, allowing Gilbert and the other housekeepers to retire for the night.
However, it appeared that hunger struck her more frequently than ever since becoming pregnant.
Barely half an hour had elapsed since Savannah had retreated to her room when she eventually succumbed to her hunger, unable to wait any longer.
Thus, she gently creaked the door open and stealthily tip–toed to the kitchen to cut up some fruits without

Yet, when she reached the stairs, she overheard the two housekeepers doing the dishes in the kitchen engaged in a hushed discussion.
“This is already the third day Mr. and Mrs. Muir haven’t shared a bedroom, right? Did something happen?”
“Oh, you’re a newcomer, so you don’t know this. Mr. and Mrs. Muir have no feelings for each other at all. Mr. Muir already has someone he likes. She’s the exceptional and talented young lady of the Guthrie family. Winona
Winona? Does Mrs. Muir know that?”
“Mrs. Muir used to be the Guthrie family’s housekeeper’s daughter. She knows everything” the chubby–faced housekeeper remarked. “But what’s the point of knowing all that? Even if we set aside Mrs. Muir’s status, which can’t even compare to Ms. Guthrie’s, just in terms of their feelings. Ms. Guthrie was Mr. Muir’s savior when they were kids. They supported each other and kept each other’s spirits up for three days during the great earthquake in Daglynn. Later, she risked injuring her spine during the aftershock just to rescue Mr. Muir from the rubble. Mrs. Muir can never compete with that level of affection in a lifetime.
“I agree, the new housekeeper nodded and sighed. “And here I thought Mr. and Mrs. Muir shared a close relationship. It seems like I was wrong.”
“Ha–ha, you should see how lovey–dovey Mr. Muir and Ms. Guthrie can be. Then, you’ll know what’s a match made in heaven.
The two chattered happily.
Once they had finished doing the dishes, they turned off all the lights on the first floor and went back to the housekeeper’s room to rest.
Savannah stood in the darkness for a moment. Then, she retraced her steps, climbing the staircase back to her room, one step at a time. She chose not to confront the housekeepers or inform them that much of what they had said was accurate.
However, they were mistaken in assuming she was fully aware of everything.
Savannah was uncertain about the specifics of how Winona had saved Channing during the earthquake.
In her recollection, during the devastating 7.8–magnitude earthquake in Dagfynn, both Winona and Channing had been impacted. Meanwhile, a playful moment led to Savannah accidentally tumbling down the stairs and injuring her spine in Drieso. This unfortunate event resulted in an extended hospital stay, ultimately forcing her to relinquish her dream of becoming a dancer.
In contrast to the injuries Winona endured due to her selflessness
inflicted.
Savannah’s injuries were entirely self-
However, as she fell in love with Channing, she witnessed him showering Winona with every ounce of his affection. A covetous and persistent thought took root in Savannah’s mind.
*Both of us have similar injuries, but wouldn’t it be so much better if I had been the one to rescue Channing during the earthquake?” she pondered.

Perhaps Savannah was overly fixated on this notion, to the extent that she occasionally dreamt of supplanting Winona in her own dreams, sharing recollections of being there with the young Channing under those dreadful ruins.
Everything seemed so real.
As a consequence of that delusion, it seemed that fate had a way of making her pay the price for harboring such thoughts, often materializing as a splitting headache. In more severe instances, these headaches could persist for an entire day.
Once more, divine retribution had descended upon her.
Savannah lay in bed uncomfortably, drifting in and out of her consciousness as she clutched her head.
Just then, she heard brisk footsteps and a cool palm gently rested on her forehead. A voice followed, saying, “She has a headache. Get her some painkillers.
However, Savannah was pregnant, so she couldn’t take painkillers.
The person attempted to feed the small pill to her lips, but Savannah instinctively poked her tongue out, repeatedly spitting out the pill.
Then, the atmosphere stilled.
Just when Savannah believed the other person had given up, she suddenly felt her nape being pinched, and
she received an assertive kiss.
In the heat of the moment, she felt their tongues intertwined as hers went numb
Savannah flushed red as she struggled persistently to avoid this passionate heat. The overwhelming situation, combined with her pounding headache, left her unable to hold back her tears. “It hurts….she whimpered.
“Why are you still so stubborn if it hurts?” A man’s deep voice could be heard hissing.
Savannah fell quiet.
Amid the fuzziness in her mind, Savannah felt aggrieved and scowled.
She was released the next moment. Realizing that his attempts to feed her the medicine had failed, the man mercifully relented and ceased his efforts. Instead, he gently massaged her temples with his large hands.
That night, Savannah experienced a rare and blissful night of uninterrupted sleep.
When she awoke again, the sun ascended high into the sky, heralding a brand new day for the world.
Savannah’s initial instinct was to glance sideways at the space beside her, but her room was devoid of any presence. The other side of the bed displayed no signs of warmth, serving as a stark confirmation that it had remained unoccupied.
In an instant, the light in Savannah’s eyes dimmed.

After a while, she lowered her head, got out of bed, and got ready to go downstairs for breakfast
Upon entering the dining hall, she did not expect to hear an icy voice slicing the air.
“Oh, look who’s up.”

Savannah froze, and the next moment, as she looked up, she spotted Channing in black–and–white loungewear, seated at the dining table with an air of elegance.
“M–Mr. Muir.” Savannah was utterly dumbfounded as she said, “You’re back?”
“What? Can’t I come back?”
Channing’s face darkened, and dark circles were visible beneath his eyes.
“Not at all,” Savannah hurriedly replied, thinking. “Of course he can come back. I’m happy he’s back.”
Even if the person who helped her massage her temples was not him, she still felt delighted.
A faint spark ignited within Savannah’s otherwise dull eyes when she thought of that.
Gilbert observed the scene with a meaningful and gratified smile on his face. The following moment, he stepped forward to mediate the situation. “That’s enough, Mr. Muir. Don’t startle Mrs. Muir. Allow her to take her seat and have her meal. I happen to have something to report.
“What’s the matter?” Channing’s tone softened as he addressed Gilbert, who had cared for him since his childhood.
“Well, Mr. Muir, the last time we discovered a medical report in our waste disposal area, we gathered all the housekeepers and conducted comprehensive examinations. The results came in today, and everyone is in good health.”
Gilbert frowned, displaying clear concern and confusion. “So, I’m still uncertain about whose medical report we found.”
“Give me the medical report you found.”
Channing slowly raised his gaze and enunciated each word carefully. “I will find that person myself.”
