Chapter 250
Oliver couldn’t stand having Theo around. Seriously, it drove him nuts. Patricia had always sensed this weird tension between the two, even though Theo was supposed to be her enemy.
“Let’s start with Kelly. We’ll have everything handled soon.”
In the apartment’s dining room, Judy brought out breakfast. Nina sat across from Theo, digging into her usual–a sandwich and a glass of milk. She’d barely sat down before her phone started blowing up with messages.
She opened her chat app and played the voice notes.
“Nina, did you see the news? Ruby’s leg is completely ruined.”
“Oh my god, that’s karma! Remember how she used to look down on Patricia? Now it’s come back
around.”
“Karma’s real, I swear.”
The messages kept popping up nonstop. Nina shot Theo a surprised look. The moment he heard about Ruby’s leg, his grip on his fork and knife tightened until his knuckles turned white.
Almost instantly, Theo grabbed his phone and opened an old group chat. Sure enough, everyone was talking about it.
“Wow, karma came for her fast.”
“I still remember when Patricia bought Ruby that insanely expensive dress for her graduation just to help her look good. Then Patricia got hurt saving someone, and Ruby was the first to make fun of
her.”
“Didn’t think payback would come so quickly!”
“See? What goes around really does come around.”
The chat was blowing up, new messages piling in so quickly Theo could barely keep up.
Nina kept her eyes on him from across the table. Watching the way his brow stayed furrowed, she felt her resentment flare up all over again.
“They’re saying Ruby’s leaving the country. If you want to see her, now’s your chance.”
Before she even finished talking, Theo dropped his utensils, grabbed his suit jacket, and bolted for the door. He moved so fast Nina barely had time to react.
Judy watched from the kitchen and let out a helpless sigh. “Ms. Miller, why did you say that?”
“If I hadn’t, he would’ve gone anyway.”
He always would. In Theo’s mind, all of Ruby’s vanity and ambition–everything she did–was because of him. She just wanted to be good enough for him.
Nina could still remember the time Ruby stole Patricia’s necklace. The housekeeper caught her and

called the cops. When Theo showed up at the station to bail her out, Ruby clung to him, crying her eyes out, swearing she only did it so she could stand beside him and look good doing it.
And, as always, Theo fell for it. Every single time.
Idiot.

It was a forty–minute drive from the apartment to the airport if you took the highway. Theo sped the whole way, barely slowing down until he reached the VIP terminal.
The moment he pulled up, he spotted a striking woman stepping out of a sleek black car.
Patricia wore a bold red dress, her long wavy hair loose around her shoulders. Heads turned as she walked past, people in the crowd even sneaking photos of her on their phones.
She was impossible to ignore.
People used to say how beautiful she was, even in a wheelchair. Now that she could stand again, she was absolutely radiant.
From across the way, Jackson spotted Theo and waved, grinning wide. “Hey, ex–husband!”
