“Here to see your precious little angel, huh?”
“Your ex–wife’s sister is your great love? If this were a romance novel, they’d drag it out for five million
words!”
Jackson’s mouth was as sharp as ever, spitting out every line like it was dipped in poison.
Aiden couldn’t figure it out–how could someone who loved lollipops so much have such a venomous tongue? Did the sugar make it worse somehow?
Theo already knew what Jackson was like and didn’t bother to argue. He just turned to Patricia instead. “Patricia, can you keep your crazy dog in check?”
“Wow, Mr. Newton, you must have a lot of free time.”
“Crawling out of your girlfriend’s bed at the crack of dawn just to visit your one true love, and then giving your ex’s friends a lecture too? That’s got to be exhausting.”
Patricia’s voice wasn’t loud, but it was just right for people walking by to catch every word.
Everyone paused and looked Theo’s way. Some stared, some whispered, some just looked him up and down with a sneer.
“Patricia, we’re over. Do we really have to turn our past into a war zone every single time?”
“That’s easy for you to say. If you’d almost been burned alive, would you be so quick to let it go?” Jackson was on fire today, partly because he hadn’t been let into the house that morning and was
still in a bad mood.
He went after Theo without holding back. “Letting go is easy for you. If you really want to ‘move on,’ why don’t you spend a night at the villa and let me set it on fire? Let’s see how quickly you get over that. If you can’t even imagine what it’s like, what right do you have to tell her to forget it?”
“This is between me and Patricia. What does it have to do with you? Jackson, you’ve always butted into her marriages–first, second, whatever–you’re overstepping, don’t you think?”
“Oh, a couple of words is overstepping? What if I just punched you right now?” Jackson rolled up his sleeves, ready for a fight.
Theo wanted nothing to do with a public showdown. He turned and walked straight into the VIP lounge.
Inside, Ruby sat slumped in her wheelchair, hat pulled low and mask hiding her face, a cloud of misery hanging over her.
When the door opened, she looked up. The second she saw Theo, tears started streaming down her cheeks. “Theo.”
“Ruby…” Theo crouched in front of her, reaching out, his hand hovering, wanting to touch her injured leg but not daring to.
Her voice shook. “Theo, what am I supposed to do now? Is my life just… over?”

Chapter 251
Her sobs echoed in the lounge as she clung to him, crying her heart out.
Outside, Jackson’s lips curled with disdain. “Crying again. One little mess and she falls apart. Funny, I don’t remember her crying back then.”
“And Theo’s no saint either. Nina’s still around, and here he is holding his so–called soulmate. If he cares so much, why not break his own leg for her?”
The more Jackson watched, the more annoyed he got. He quietly pushed the door open a crack, snapped a couple of photos, and sent them straight to Nina. He never missed a chance to stir up
drama.
“We’re not going in?” Aiden asked.
“Let them have their moment,” Patricia said, glancing at her fresh manicure. “No need to crush whatever hope she’s got left. Why be so heartless?”
“Broken leg, after all. I know what that feels like.”
Jackson looked at Patricia like she’d lost her mind. “You’re a real saint. Think you could spot me an extra fifty grand this month?”
Had she forgotten how miserable she’d been? And now she was feeling sorry for someone else?
Jackson figured Patricia must have blocked out her own pain by now.
As for Ruby, even if she ended up paralyzed for life, stuck in bed forever, Jackson wouldn’t waste a drop of sympathy on her.
Thief.
Liar.
Backstabber.
