Chapter 279
Blood dripped from the corner of Greg’s mouth. He wiped it away with his thumb, glanced at the dark smear, then licked it off with a twisted grin, his eyes cold and full of malice. “How much are you willing to give me?” His voice was sharp, almost mocking.
Kelly kept her face calm. “Name your price.”
“Five hundred million.”
She stared at him like he was out of his mind. “Are you kidding me?”
Greg just smirked, closing the space between them. “Didn’t you just say you’d pay anything? Now’s your chance.” His hand landed on her stomach, tracing slow circles that made her skin crawl. “You and Howard have been married forever, right? The perfect couple. Imagine if he finds out his wife–at your age–is cheating and ends up pregnant. What do you think he’d do?”
He leaned in, voice dropping to a hiss. “Don’t forget, you’re carrying my bastard.”
Greg’s eyes glittered with something unhinged. “So, Mrs. Newton, either you give me five hundred million, or I’ll tell your dear husband all about your little secret. Your call.”
Kelly’s temper snapped. “You wouldn’t dare!” Her whole life she’d been the one calling the shots. It had never crossed her mind that she could be the one trapped.
But Greg wasn’t the same man she used to know. The Greg who got into a top university had seemed normal. The Greg who’d escaped those years in that hellhole of a mine was barely hanging on. But the Greg who came back from the psych ward–he was something else. Dangerous. Broken. Unpredictable.
Greg’s eyes went wild. He grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked her down, forcing her to her knees. “You think I won’t? You people threw me into that mine, locked me in the psych ward, ruined my life. What do you think I’m scared of now?”
He forced her head back, making her look at him. “Kelly, you should be grateful I haven’t killed you yet. Don’t worry, though. Once I’m done with you, I’m going after your son.”
His mouth twisted in a sneer. “That little brat–he messed with me, and now he’s going to pay.”
Hearing Theo’s name–her son, her pride–made Kelly’s blood run cold. How could Greg even think of hurting him? How dare he?
She tried to fight back, but Greg shoved her down on the bed, holding her there while her mind spun in panic. She clenched her teeth, refusing to show fear, until a sharp pain stabbed through her
stomach.
She gasped and looked down, horror flooding her when she saw blood spreading across the sheets.
Panic crashed over her, fast and hard.
“Greg! Greg, let me go!” she cried, her voice trembling. “Greg, I’m bleeding! Greg–please-”
Greg froze for a second, thrown off by the blood. He darted to the pile of clothes on the floor, searching frantically for his phone.

Chapter 279
Kelly forced herself upright, one hand pressed hard against her stomach. While Greg was distracted, she spotted her chance–a folding knife glinting on the nightstand.
She’d wanted Greg dead more times than she could count. Every time she saw him, the hate burned hotter. The only reason she hadn’t acted was because she couldn’t risk destroying her own life.
But now he’d threatened Theo.
He’d threatened her son.
Her mind raced. She was bleeding–there was proof. If she told everyone Greg had attacked her and caused the miscarriage, maybe she could still turn this around.
Greg finally grabbed his phone and turned to call for help.
Kelly didn’t hesitate. She snatched up the knife, steady as steel, crept behind him, and with a single, practiced motion, drew the blade across his throat.
Blood sprayed everywhere.
Greg’s phone hit the floor with a dull clatter. He stared at Kelly, eyes wide with disbelief, hands clutching his neck as blood poured out. He tried to speak, but all that came out was a gurgle and a rush of red.
He stumbled, desperately trying to stop the bleeding, but it was hopeless.
A moment later, with a heavy crash, he hit the floor–silent, finally, at her feet.
