Chapter4
Linda’s words cut into my tiny heart like a poisoned blade.
Terror and despair swallowed me whole, and I wailed again-this time with a grief so raw it tore through me, leaving nothing but heartbreak in its wake.
The louder I cried, the more her lips curved in satisfaction.
She rocked me gently in her arms, cooing soothing words, but her eyes stayed cold and predatory, gleaming
with venom.
“Go on, cry yourself out. You’ll sleep soon enough..”
She laid me in the crib and ignored me, retreating into the kitchen to prepare dinner.
From the next room, Grandma stirred awake at my cries, her weak voice calling out, “Linda, what’s wrong with the baby?”
Linda poked her head out from the kitchen, her voice carrying just the right touch of helplessness. “Mrs.
Lawson, I really can’t do anything. Mrs. Lawson won’t hold her, so she’s been crying nonstop.”
Grandma sighed heavily but said nothing more.
I cried until my throat was raw, my body trembling, my hands and feet turning cold.
This couldn’t go on.
Tears brought me no sympathy-only gave my enemy more delight.
I had to find another way.
After dinner, Linda came to feed me. I was exhausted from crying the entire afternoon, my belly growling with hunger.
This time, I didn’t resist. I drank the formula obediently.
Linda seemed surprised but didn’t think much of it, assuming I had simply cried myself out.
Once I had finished, she lifted me upright to burp me. And that was when the chance came-my face right against her shoulder.
I summoned all the strength in my tiny body, opened my toothless mouth, and clamped down hard on her shoulder with my gums.
I had no teeth, but I bit down with all the force I had, pressing my gums into her skin with merciless
pressure.

“Ah!”
Linda shrieked in pain and, without thinking, nearly flung me away.
I squeezed my eyes shut, bracing myself for the crash.
The fall would hurt-maybe badly-but I had to gamble. I had to leave behind proof of what she was capable
But before I could hit the ground, a pair of strong, trembling hands caught me firmly.
I opened my eyes in shock. My father’s face loomed above me, etched with panic and worry.
He was back.
He had come home early.
“Michael? What are you doing back?” Grandma’s startled voice rang out from her bed.
My father’s expression was thunderous. He held me close, his gaze sharp as a blade as he locked on Linda’s pale, stricken face.
“The project ended ahead of schedule. I walked in just now and saw her about to throw the baby! Linda, what the hell were you doing?!”
Linda went white as a sheet, clutching her shoulder where I had bitten her. She stammered, frantic. “Mr.
Lawson, no-you’ve got it wrong! It wasn’t like that! The baby-she bit me out of nowhere, and it hurt-I
almost dropped her, but I swear I didn’t mean to!”
Her eyes turned red as she spoke, her expression pitiful, as though she were the victim of some terrible
injustice.
“Bit you?” My father frowned and glanced down at me.
I played my part, opening my mouth to show him my toothless gums, giving him a pitiful, innocent smile.
How much strength could a newborn really have?
My father clearly thought the same. His suspicion toward Linda only deepened.
“Let me see the injury.”
Linda’s face drained even further. She fumbled, keeping her hand clamped on her shoulder. “It’s nothing, Mr. Lawson-just a little mark, it’s not serious…”
The more she tried to hide it, the less my father believed her.
“Move your hand,” he ordered, his voice sharp and commanding.

Startled, Linda flinched and dared not resist.
My father pulled aside her collar. On her shoulder spread a vivid red mark, already darkening to purple.
The bite looked real.
But how? I had no teeth.
A cold realization settled over me.
In my last life, Linda had a strange habit. She always drank some herbal infusion, claiming it was good for her health. Once, when I accidentally knocked over her cup, she had panicked like it was something irreplaceable.
Now I understood. That “tonic” had to be the key.
It must have made her skin hypersensitive, bruising at the slightest pressure, leaving marks far more
dramatic than normal.
She had planned this all along.
