Chapter 2
When she looks back at Melody, even her smile seems forced:
“It’s not like that with Sloane and Carter. Our families do business together for years. That’s how they know each
other so well.”
“Plus, Sloane’s a sweet girl, just like Carter. You’ll see once you get to know her better.”
Melody rolls her eyes but doesn’t push it with the parents around.
Thought that was the end of it. Wrong.
Next day, this psycho posts about it online under a fake account.
With her twisted version of events, it hits trending topics.
Comments are brutal:
[Fake bro bitch, drop dead!]
[Love being “one of the guys” so much? Why don’t you just get the surgery already?]
My assistant shows me the post. I open my phone to a wall of hate.
Hashtags like #Sloane Fake Bro and #Pick Me Girl are trending in the top ten.
I click on the most viral post–some fresh burner account with photos of me and Carter from the party. The angles are totally sneaky, making my normal conversation look like I was being “aggressive.”
The caption’s even worse:
Sloane keeps stalking my friend, flexing her daddy’s money to bully her and threatening her to stay away from Carter. Rich bitches really think they own everyone huh?]
Comments went absolutely feral with keyboard warriors piling on:
[Another spoiled trust fund brat who thinks money = power smh]
[Feel so bad for that girl, imagine dealing with this unhinged pick–me?]
Even worse? Comments are full of screenshots from Melody’s pity party livestream–full waterworks telling her camera she’s “just some nobody who isn’t good enough for Carter, but I love him so much, please Sloane just back
off.”
Total victim act basically screaming that I’m out here “ruining her life.”

Chapter 2
My assistant’s freaking out over all the hate:
“Miss Winters, should we put out a statement? Maybe get some bots to flip the narrative?”
“Nah, just have PR kill the trending topics. Don’t let it mess with the project timeline.”
This attention–seeking drama queen isn’t worth my time. Plus I’m swamped with the Hayes family collaboration.
But I underestimated how crazy this chick really is.
PR barely gets the hashtags down when she goes live again, crying even harder:
‘See that? They’re using their power to silence me now! Is this what money can do? Miss Winters, you can shut me up but you can’t hide the truth!”
And yeah, we’re viral again.
People start digging for my “dirt“-all fake obviously, but drama–hungry idiots eat it up.
Carter calls, voice all awkward trying to apologize for Melody:
‘Sloane, Mel’s just… really insecure, you know? Don’t take it personally. I’ll make her delete all that online stuff.”
‘m in the middle of a video conference with international partners, no time for his girlfriend drama:
‘Keep her in line.”
That’s it. I hang up.
Few days later, my friend group plans dinner at this private club.
Didn’t want to go, but my bestie Madison keeps begging, so I make time.
Walk into the private room and–oh, fantastic. Carter and Melody, already sitting there.
