Shawn’s POV
Shawn laughed humourlessly. “That’s because my life has become hell overnight.”
Marcus walked over, glancing at the mess of papers and the glass of whiskey on the desk. He shook his head. “I heard about the investors. You’re falling apart, Shawn, faster than a stack of dominoes.”
Shawn rubbed his temples with a frustrated groan. “They’re running like rats. I can’t even-” He cut himself off with a sigh and stared at the envelope again. “But that’s not even the worst of it.”
Marcus followed his gaze. His eyebrows lifted slightly when he saw the bold letters on the document: Divorce Agreement.
“Ah, Aurora,” Marcus said quietly. “I heard about that.”
Shawn’s jaw tightened. He wanted to explain, to defend himself, but the words felt useless.
Marcus exhaled. “You’ve made a royal mess of things.”
Shawn released a bitter laugh. “You think I don’t know that?” He leaned back, rubbing his hands over his face. “Tell me how to fix this. Please. I’ll do anything.”
Marcus was silent for a long moment. When he finally spoke, his voice was steady. “I can’t help you with your marriage, Shawn. That… that’s on you.”
Shawn closed his eyes. He had expected that answer, but it still pierced through his chest.
He wanted Aurora back. He needed to apologize to her. He needed to tell her that he loved her so much, and he would become better for her. He knew how much she loved him, she was just hurt now.
He would make it up to her.
Marcus must have sensed his thoughts. “You can get her back. She loves you so much, but she might need some space to calm down. Focus on getting your company back.”
Shawn sighed, nodding. “Alright, what’s the plan?”
Marcus continued, “I might be able to help with your company. If you’re willing to move fast and swallow your pride.”
Shawn straightened up instantly on hearing this. “How?”
“There’s a group,” Marcus said slowly. “An empire, really. The biggest and richest network I know. They are old money, they don’t really care about headlines. If you can get them to invest, not only will you survive, but other companies will come crawling back just to follow their lead.”
Hope flickered in Shawn’s chest for the first time in days. “Who are they?”
Marcus gave him a sharp look. Finally, he said, “The Redmond Empire.”
Chawn frowned The man

al,
Shawn frowned. The name nagged at something in the back of his mind. “Redmond?”
“Yes,” Marcus said. “They keep a low profile, but their power is terrifying. Seven sons and one daughter. The brothers control sectors from banking to shipping, everything. The sister is the golden apple of the family. No one knows her, but I heard they had a falling out some years ago. They don’t usually take meetings, but I have a contact who got me their address.”
Shawn furrowed his eyebrows in thought. ‘Redmond‘. Why did that name sound so familiar?
Marcus handed him a card. “This is their home address. Don’t waste time. If you’re lucky, they might hear you out and save your company before it’s too late.”
Shawn stared at the card, tracing the letters with his thumb. Redmond.
For a second, a memory flashed through his mind. Aurora, crying late at night, something about her brothers. But the thought slipped away before he could focus on it.
He shrugged it off and placed the card in his pocket. He finally had hope. Things were finally going right for him.
Marcus ran a hand through his hair. “I really hope it all works out for you, old friend.”
Shawn nodded slowly, “Thank you, Marcus.”
As Marcus was about to leave, he turned to Shawn one more time. “Did your wife really deliver divorce papers to your birthday party venue because you cheated on her?”
Shawn paused, blinking in surprise.
Marcus shook his head. “I know, it wa
a horrible thing to do, and most wives would divorce you, but… Aurora loved you so much, I was thinking she would confront you privately, and the two of you would work things out. So…”
Shawn resisted the urge to swallow guiltily. No one else had seen those documents that showed that he had killed his daughter for Tiffany, and no one knew that he had killed his unborn child for Tiffany, and he would leave it that way.
He shrugged stiffly. “Cheating on her was wrong, Marcus. And I’m going to work out things between us no matter what.”
Marcus gave him a sympathetic smile and walked out.
Shawn sat still for a moment. He picked up the pregnancy report again as the woman’s voice echoed in his head. Miscarriage. Blunt force trauma.
His chest tightened.
He picked up the card from his pocket. The Redmond Empire.
He gripped the card tight.
If he could win them over, everything he had lost could be rebuilt. And maybe he could find a way to win Aurora back.

Shawn straightened up in his chair, clenching jaw.
Time to get to work. Whatever it took, he would get everything back. His company, and Aurora.
