Chapter 13
Seraphina was right–Adrian’s path to his current position had been full of obstacles.
So what he hated most were people who bullied others using their power and influence.
The first time he saw Seraphina, he knew she was the president’s daughter.
He was repulsed by her advances, even slightly disgusted, but later he discovered she was different.
She had her own academic pursuits, would spend a whole week in the lab for one experiment.
Despite being the president’s daughter, she was friendly to classmates and lab partners.
Under her persistent pursuit, Adrian began to feel something for her.
But now looking at Seraphina, he realized how laughable his thoughts had been.
To make him forever dependent on her, she’d even come up with this scheme, using the thing he kept buried deepest in his heart to blackmail
him.
And he’d been stupid enough to personally give up Violet for this malicious woman.
Adrian didn’t want to look at Seraphina another second. He turned to leave, but she stopped him.
“Adrian, if you walk out that door today, tomorrow your mom’s photos and rumors about you being a bastard will be all over campus.”
Adrian stopped, looking at her in disbelief.
“Seraphina, you’re absolutely disgusting.”
Adrian’s obvious disgust pierced Seraphina’s heart: “No, Adrian, I really do love you.”
“And don’t you look down on Violet too? You two aren’t from the same world anymore. She could never stand beside you at academic conferences or help you get resources in high society.”
“I’m the one who’s right for you, Adrian. Why can’t you see me?”
But Adrian no longer believed a word she said, didn’t even want to look at her anymore, completely rejecting everything she’d said: “That I’d believe someone like you–if you hadn’t done all this behind the scenes, how would Violet and I have ended up like this?”
“You absolutely disgust me!”
His meaning made her freeze, or maybe it was because all pretenses had been stripped away. Seraphina stared at him steadily until he felt uncomfortable.
Just as he turned to leave, she suddenly burst out laughing, laughing so hard she could barely breathe.
The laughter made him stop and turn back, frowning with disgust: “What are you laughing at?”
“I’m laughing at how ridiculous you are, Adrian!”
Seraphina stood up from the couch, wiping her tears, looking at him with nothing but hatred and mockery: “Adrian, you say I’m vicious–you think you’re any better?”
“The one who was unfaithful was you, the one who hurt Violet was you, the one who drove her away was you. Now you’re acting all innocent?”
The more she spoke, the angrier she got, standing up and approaching him step by step.

Chapter 13
“The way you’re talking now, people who don’t know might think you’re so devoted! Ten years together, and I only pursued you for a few months before you casually threw it all away.”
“You keep saying I abuse my power, Adrian. Think carefully about how much my father helped you, how many resources and opportunities he gave you.”
“You’re someone who’d abandon everything for fame and fortune. Violet saw you clearly and left on her own. You were sad for what, a few days? Then you agreed to get engaged to me.”
Each sentence was like a sword piercing his heart, making him stagger back, wanting to distance himself from her. But Seraphina wasn’t done
with him yet.
“Are you angry today because of Violet?”
Faced with her question, Adrian couldn’t say a word for a long time.
Seraphina looked at him like this and laughed coldly, answering her own question: “Not at all. It’s because of you. You can’t accept me looking down on you, can’t accept that what you thought was beautiful love was actually my design. You’re not angry for Violet at all, not for ten years of feelings being betrayed.”
“Even after getting this mad at me today, how long can you hold out? In a few days you’ll come crawling back to me, relying on my family’s influence.”
Seraphina was certain.
Since childhood, she’d gotten everything she wanted. If she couldn’t get it, she’d use any means necessary.
She expected Adrian to panic, but he laughed coldly and pulled out a USB drive from his pocket.
“Embezzlement, bribery, abuse of power–guess how long your father can last.”
Seraphina’s expression changed instantly, looking at him in disbelief.
“You actually RECORDED us?!”
Hearing Adrian play a short clip, Seraphina’s face twisted with rage.
“My father introduced you to connections and you recorded it?!”
“Adrian, you’re an ungrateful piece of SHIT. Violet gave up her education for you, and you casually threw away ten years of feelings. I cleared obstacles for you and had my father introduce you to people, and you treat us like this!”
“Adrian, I was so wrong about you.”
Faced with her abuse, Adrian didn’t say much: “Seraphina, you threatened me with this stuff first. How come when it’s in my hands, I’m the one being underhanded?”
“If I don’t play dirty, am I supposed to let you control me for life?”
