Chapter 21
The following winter, Violet’s health had completely recovered, and her follow up results made them both very happy
Ethan took her to see the northern lights she’d always wanted to see.
The cold wind howled across Violet’s face as she pulled her scarf higher, almost covering half her face. Norway’s winter nights were bone–chilling, but this cold was nothing compared to seeing the aurora.
“Hang in there a little longer–the guide said there’s a high chance of seeing the northern lights tonight.” Ethan beside her handed over a thermos, steam condensing into white mist in the cold air. “Drink some hot water to warm up.”
“The northern lights are appearing!”
Hearing the guide’s voice, they both looked up.
In the distant sky, a faint green ribbon of light slowly unfurled like gossamer. The glow was weak at first, but gradually became brighter, transforming into a flowing river.
“It’s so beautiful…” Violet murmured, completely forgetting the cold.
Ethan stood beside her, equally speechless at this natural wonder. He snuck glances at Violet’s profile–under the aurora’s glow, her eyes sparkled brighter than the stars.
“Violet.” Ethan suddenly turned to face her, his voice trembling.
“Yeah?” Violet turned, noticing Ethan’s expression was more serious than she’d ever seen.
Just then, Ethan did something Violet never expected-
He dropped to one knee in the snow and pulled out a small box from his pocket.
Violet’s heart nearly stopped. She stared wide–eyed as Ethan opened the box to reveal a ring set with a ruby that glowed softly under the aurora.
Ethan took a deep breath: “Violet, will you marry me?”
Above them, the northern lights reached their most brilliant moment, green and purple ribbons weaving together into a magnificent canopy, as if the entire sky was blessing their love.
Violet felt her eyes getting wet as she nodded: “Yes, I will. I absolutely will.”
The following spring, they had their wedding.
To make up for past regrets, Violet went abroad to study. The girl who’d once had mediocre grades went all the way to earn her PhD,
When she stood at the podium of a top university, she looked down at Ethan in the audience.
“My achievements wouldn’t have been possible without my loving husband’s constant support,”
“Thanks to his support, I’ve reached heights I never dared dream of.”
Thunderous applause erupted from the audience as Ethan stood up to present her with flowers.
“I love you, Ethan.”
“I love you too, Violet.”
