Chapter 113: The Alpha’s Disappearance
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
Weekend arrived, and Dr. Jane Porter and I went bowling. The activity seemed to energize her in a way I hadn’t seen before.
“I often bowl to relieve stress,” she admitted, lining up her shot. 1 imagine the pins as people I hate.”
She knocked down all ten pins with impressive force.
As she celebrated, I noticed a silver ring hanging from a chain around her neck. She quickly tucked it back
under her shirt when she saw me looking.
“Nice shot,” I complimented, deciding not to pry.
Back at my apartment building, I was surprised to find Dr. Hugo Ashworth moving boxes into the unit next
door.
“You’re my new neighbor?” I asked, watching the movers carry his belongings.
“I never lived at home,” he replied curtly. “My father didn’t tell you about me, did he?”
Before I could respond, he added, “Your doorway is a bit dirty. Remember to sweep.”
He disappeared into his apartment, leaving me standing in the hallway.
My phone rang just as I entered my own apartment. Amber Stone’s name appeared on the screen.
“What do you want?” I answered coldly.
“Marcus has been in an accident,” she said urgently. “You need to come.”
I felt my heart skip a beat, then forced myself to remain calm.
“Why didn’t you call Sophia Rivers instead?”
“Sophia Rivers is not Marcus’s Luna,” Amber Stone sighed over the phone. “I know you resent him in your heart. Now he is in critical condition in the emergency bay, and the Blackwood family doesn’t even know that he came to Riverside City to find you. No matter what, please, for the sake of Margaret Blackwood, come and
see him.”
I took a deep breath to compose myself. The manipulation in her words was transparent.
1 respect Margaret Blackwood’s kindness,” I said calmly. “But I distinguish between the elder and Marcus
Blackwood”
My voice grew firmer. “I refuse to be manipulated by gratitude. I owe the Blackwood family nothing for the
past six years.”
“Elena, please-”
“My gratitude towards Margaret doesn’t obligate me to comply with your requests,” I interrupted. “Even if Marcus dies, I won’t visit him.”
I hung up without another word.

Elena’s harsh words echoed in the hospital room, Amber Stone had put the call on speaker, and I heard every
cruel syllable.
I stared at the ceiling, questioning Elena’s ruthlessness through our severed mate bond. The emptiness where our connection once thrived felt like a gaping wound.
Amber Stone shifted uncomfortably beside my bed. “I’m sorry, Alpha. My attempt to persuade her failed.”
“I heard,” I said quietly.
The silence stretched between us like a chasm. Elena’s rejection cut deeper than any physical injury.
“Alpha Blackwood! The Head of Howell Family burst through the emergency bay doors, his face flushed with

Amber Stone stepped forward. “A child ran into the road. The Alpha swerved to avoid hitting them and
crashed into a barrier”
The Head of Howell Family nodded gravely. “Such accidents happen in the city. The important thing is you’re
safe.”
He leaned closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Please, allow me to offer my residence for your recovery. My family would be honored to host you.”
Amber Stone shot me a meaningful look. The political implications weren’t lost on either of us.

“That’s very generous,” I accepted, playing along with his transparent agenda. “I appreciate your hospitality.”
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
The next morning, I waited for the steel ascent elevator at the medical center. Hugo Ashworth approached impeccably dressed in his usual pristine attire.
He noticed the medical waste bag in my hand and hesitated at the elevator doors.
“You might want to take the next one. I joked. “This probably smells terrible.”
To my surprise, Hugo entered the elevator first. “Just don’t get it on me.”
I followed him inside, amused by his unexpected tolerance.
Reaching the ground floor, Hugo turned to me. “Is your former mate bothering you?”
“Dr. Jane Porter told you?” I asked.
He nodded. “She mentioned the confrontation yesterday.”
We walked together toward the healing facility entrance. The morning subway was crowded with commuters.
As we squeezed into the packed car, Hugo suddenly pulled me closer to him. “Watch out.”
A businessman with a briefcase pushed past us roughly. Hugo’s protective gesture surprised me.
“Your personality isn’t as bad as I thought,” I admitted
Hugo’s expression turned somber. He said nothing for the rest of the journey.
Arriving at the healing facility, Dr. Jane Porter greeted us with a playful smile. “Look at you two, arriving together again. Are you sure there’s nothing romantic happening?”
“It’s just a coincidence,” I protested.
Purely coincidental,” Hugo agreed curtly.
Dr. Porter’s expression shifted to excitement. “Speaking of romance, did you hear about Marcus Blackwood?”
My heart skipped a beat. “What about him?”
“He arrived in Riverside City yesterday and then disappeared after an accident,” she said, pulling out her
phone “Look at this news report”
I stared at the screen, my face paling. The headline read: ‘Prominent Northern Territory Alpha Missing After
Vehicle Crash.”
“What do you mean by ‘disappearance?” I asked, my voice barely steady.
“His whereabouts are unknown,” Dr. Porter explained. “His vehicle is completely wrecked, but there’s no sign
of him.”
The image showed a mangled black Bentley wrapped around a concrete barrier. My stomach lurched.
For a moment, I wondered if he was dead. The cruel words I’d spoken to Amber Stone echoed in my mind.
The interesting part,” Dr. Porter continued, “is that he came to Riverside City to find his Luna. Most people in the Northern Territory don’t even know about this trip.”
She looked between Hugo and me curiously. “Did either of you know about this?”
“No,” Hugo replied immediately.
“I had no idea,” I lied, my voice hollow.
My hands trembled as I excused myself. “I need to get to my healing chamber.”
Hugo watched me leave, his expression thoughtful.
For several days, Marcus remained absent from all pack communications. The silence was deafening
I found myself wondering if his disappearance was connected to his search for me. The guilt gnawed at my conscience like a persistent ache.
Finally, I couldn’t bear the uncertainty any longer. I called Margaret Blackwood.
“Elena, dear,” her warm voice answered. “How lovely to hear from you.”
“Margaret, I was wondering about Marcus,” I said carefully. “Is he well?”
“Marcus? He should be fine. Why do you ask?”
I probed gently. “I heard he might have traveled recently.”
“He went to Riverside City? I really don’t know about this. Did something happen?”
Her genuine surprise confirmed my suspicions. The Blackwood family truly didn’t know about his trip.

My phone rang. Margaret’s name appeared on the screen.
“Marcus,” Grace Burton’s voice came through. “Elder Margaret wants to speak with you”
Margaret’s concerned voice followed. “Are you in Riverside City?”
“Yes, Grandmother”
“Thank the moon goddess you’re safe. I heard there was an accident.”
I sighed heavily. “I cannot hide anything from you
“You went to find Elena, didn’t you?”
“Yes.”
Margaret’s voice carried deep disappointment. “Oh, Marcus. What have you done? Your actions have only pushed her further away.”
The weight of her words settled on my shoulders like lead.
“Well, I know,” I admitted quietly.
