Chapter 120: Her Surgery Became a Textbook Case
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
In the afternoon, about a dozen patients were queued up for appointments in the neurology department, all of them registered to see Hugo Ashworth. Some were even familiar faces from previous consultations.
I stood by, taking notes, while Hugo reviewed test results and diagnosed the severity of their conditions. He determined if surgery was appropriate and, if so, which healing technique would be most effective for werewolf physiology.
Just then, a hemiplegic man in his sixties was wheeled in by his family members.
“Professor Ashworth,” the middle–aged woman greeted him, her voice filled with shame. “It’s us.”
Hugo recognized them immediately – they were from a smaller pack in the territory. “You’re Mr. Hunter’s family?”
The woman nodded, her voice cracking with regret. “Yes. My mate was hospitalized in the neurology department last year, and the director there asked you to create a healing plan for us…”
She paused, tears welling in her eyes. “If we had listened to your surgical arrangement back then, my mate
wouldn’t be like this now…”
Her son comforted her while her young daughter stood silently. Her gaze frequently drifted towards Hugo
with obvious admiration.

Without a word, Hugo rose and examined the elderly patient’s pupils with a penlight. He check for signs of supernatural healing complications that sometimes affected older werewolves.
The wife, desperate, asked, “Professor Ashworth, you’re the youngest neurology expert at the Central Healing
Institute. It was our fault for not realizing the severity of his condition and not listening to your advice.”
Her voice broke. “Can… can he still recover?”
Hugo inquired about his condition post–discharge. She explained that despite being on blood pressure
medication and moonlight herb supplements, he had recently suffered a seizure, lost consciousness, and
become paralyzed.
Hugo pointed to the MRI scan. “This is a classic case of cerebral arteriosclerosis. Last year’s check–up only
showed a cerebral thrombosis.”
His voice was clinical but not unkind./”If you had agreed to the minimally invasive surgery then, it wouldn’t
have progressed to this stage.”
As the she–wolf wept with guilt, her son asked if surgery was now required.
Hugo turned to me. “Healer Elena, you’re the chief surgeon. What do you say?”
The family looked at me in surprise.
After reviewing the patient’s records, I confidently recommended a Carotid Endarterectomy procedure.
“It’s a healing technique to remove the thickened atherosclerotic plaque from the carotid artery to prevent it

from breaking off and causing a stroke,” I explained. “We’ll combine it with moonlight herb infusions to enhance the healing process for werewolf patients.”
The patient’s wife, however, bypassed me completely. Her distrust was palpable as she looked directly at
Hugo.
“Professor Ashworth, are there risks with this surgery?”
I simply met Hugo’s gaze and smiled faintly. I understood the family’s hesitation about my age and
experience.
Hugo replied calmly, “Every surgery has risks. But if you don’t do it, have you considered the consequences of
a stroke?”
He gestured toward me. “Healer Elena is one of our most skilled surgeons.”
His words were enough to convince the family to consent to the surgery. Though I noticed the daughter’s continued skeptical glances.
The clinic didn’t wrap up until four in the afternoon. Just as I was gathering my materials, a young woman
appeared at the door, looking for Hugo.
It was Lisa Fisher, the patient’s daughter.
Seeing the girl’s lovesick expression as she gazed at Hugo, I immediately understood the situation.
“Professor Ashworth, I’ll be leaving then,” I said, heading out.
As I left, Lisa entered and timidly asked Hugo, “Professor Ashworth, can I add you on my phone contacts? If I
have any questions about my father’s surgery, I can contact you directly!”
Hugo refused her gently but firmly. “Sorry, I don’t give out my personal contact to patients‘ family members. If you have any questions, you can ask your attending physician.”
Dejected, the girl bit her lip. Her eyes reddened as she ran out of the healing chamber.

Returning to the surgical wing, Lisa happened to overhear two pack nurses gossiping at the Healer’s Station.
“Professor Ashworth never seemed to ask female colleagues to assist him in the clinic before, but he
specifically asked for Healer Elena,” one nurse said. “Hey, do you think there’s something going on between
them?”
The other nurse replied dreamily, “Healer Elena is the great beauty of our surgical department! Professor
Ashworth is a man, not a god. It’s normal for him to be captivated by beauty, right?”
The gossip stung Lísa deeply. She walked listlessly to her father’s recovery ward, where her mother and brother were so preoccupied with her father that they didn’t even notice her distress.
Leaning against the wall in frustration, she opened her phone’s photo album. It was filled almost exclusively
with pictures of Hugo from his medical school lectures and pack conferences.
She had worked so hard to get into the healing academy just to be closer to her idol.
Looking up, she saw the staff information board on the wall and quickly found Elena’s photo. Even in a standard headshot, her bone structure and features were stunning, exuding an air of pure, orchid–like elegance mixed with a subtle allure.

An idea sparked in Lisa’s mind as jealousy consumed her. She snapped a picture of Elena’s professional photo and proceeded to draft and post a slanderous article about her on the pack’s online forum.
The next morning, Mr. Hunter’s surgery was scheduled first. In the patient’s recovery ward, Hugo and his
colleague Dr. Fisher were discussing the healing plan with the attending physician.
When it was mentioned that Elena would be performing the operation, Lisa was the first to object.
“No.”
Her mother looked at her, confused. “Lisa, what’s wrong?”
Lisa, looking guilty but determined, mumbled, “I read online… people are saying she’s not a proper healer. What healing institute has such a young, beautiful surgeon?”
Her voice grew more venomous. “She must have gotten in through connections, maybe even through
inappropriate relationships with powerful Alphas.”
The attending physician tried to reassure them, explaining Elena’s credentials and extensive experience from
her previous post with other prestigious packs.
But Lisa pressed her mother, “Mom, we can’t gamble with Dad’s life, can we!”
Her words struck a chord, and Mrs. Hunter hesitated. She looked between Elena and Hugo uncertainly.
“Professor Ashworth, maybe… we should switch the surgeon?”
Dr. Fisher crossed his arms, watching Hugo with an amused expression. He was curious how he would
handle this delicate situation involving Elena’s reputation.

authority. “She spent ten hours, painstakingly working on a case deemed nearly impossible, and successfully transplanted neural stem cells into the host, promoting partial recovery of lost functions while maintaining the patient’s werewolf abilities.”
His eyes never left Lisa’s face. “To this day, that surgery is a case study in werewolf medical school neurology
textbooks. For such a surgical genius to be negated by online slander from jealous individuals is truly
disheartening.”
Lisa was left pale and speechless. She had no grounds for rebuttal as Hugo’s authority and knowledge silenced her completely.
Mrs. Hunter, her faith in Hugo absolute, was relieved and slightly embarrassed by her daughter’s behavior. “I see, Healer Elena is that incredible. Then let’s have Healer Elena perform the surgery.”
She bowed slightly. “I apologize for doubting your judgment, Professor Ashworth.”

Hugo’s brow furrowed in annoyance as he glanced at Dr. Fisher before walking away.
Shaking his head, Dr. Fisher habitually pulled out his phone to check the pack’s online forum. Just as the young girl had claimed, he found that Elena had indeed been slandered online by anonymous posts questioning her qualifications and suggesting inappropriate relationships with pack leadership.
