Professor Andrew stood beside Professor Theodore when he heard our conversation. His eyes widened with recognition as he looked at me.
“Wait, I remember you,” he said, stepping forward. “You were with Alpha Marcus when I met him in the Northern Territory.”
The crowd murmured at this revelation. While connections weren’t uncommon in pack circles, the academic
world valued substance over relationships.
People like Professor Theodore and Professor Andrew had no need for those with mere appearances but no
real healing skills.
Sophia’s lips curved into a triumphant smile. She clearly expected this confirmation to expose me as nothing
more than Marcus’s accessory.
“See?” she said, her voice dripping with vindication. “I told you she only gets into these circles through her
mate’s influence.”
The two female colleagues nodded smugly, their earlier embarrassment forgotten.
Just as everyone expected me to be dismissed, Professor Theodore touched the moonstone pendant on his wrist. He looked at Professor Andrew with a knowing smile.
“Didn’t you want to meet my protégé?” Professor Theodore asked.
Professor Andrew nodded in confirmation. “Yes, I’ve been looking forward to it.”
Professor Theodore gestured for me to come to his side. His arm wrapped around my shoulder pr
ively.
“She is my protégé, Elena Blackwood,” he declared proudly.
The crowd fell into stunned silence. Sophia’s face turned from green to white with shock.
Her mouth opened and closed like a fish gasping for air.
Professor Andrew’s eyes lit up with amazement. “This is incredible! I had no idea.”
Professor Theodore beamed with pride. “Elena is the most gifted healer I have personally selected for advanced surgical techniques.”
“Her work on neural regeneration therapy has been groundbreaking,” he continued. “She’s already published three papers in the International Werewolf Medical Journal.”
Sophia clenched her fists so tightly her knuckles turned white. This wasn’t the outcome she had envisioned
at all.
The whispers around us grew louder as pack members reassessed the situation entirely.
Sophia tried to salvage what remained of her dignity. “I… I didn’t know Elena was your student, Professor
Theodore.”

“You didn’t need to know,” I interrupted coldly. “I don’t require your belief or approval.”
The onlookers whispered among themselves. Some criticized my attitude while others questioned why Sophia could insult someone without knowing their background.
Sophia’s eyes filled with tears as she turned to Professor Andrew. “I feel so unwelcome here. Perhaps I should
leave.”
She was playing the victim card again, hoping to gain sympathy.
I delivered a devastating blow with ice–cold precision. “You want me to shake hands and make peace with a she–wolf who interfered in my mating bond and destroyed my family?”
My voice carried the weight of six years of pain. “I’d rather tend to wounded rogues.”
I turned to Professor Theodore, my resolve unwavering. “I can’t do it, Professor. I simply can’t.”
Professor Theodore’s expression hardened as he looked at Sophia. His Alpha authority radiated disapproval.
“I won’t let my protégé be wronged,” he told Professor Andrew firmly. “Elena has suffered enough.”
(Sophia Rivers’s POV)
After Elena and Professor Theodore entered the banquet hall, I was stopped by Professor Andrew’s research
assistant. His expression was stern and unforgiving.
“Miss Rivers, you’re no longer welcome at this event,” he informed me curtly.
My heart sank as the implications hit me. “What do you mean?”
“Professor Theodore is the initiator of the nanotherapy healing project and our partner,” he explained. “By offending his prized protégé, you’ve embarrassed Professor Andrew.”
His voice grew colder. “You’re lucky not to be kicked out of the research team entirely.”
The assistant stepped closer, his tone warning. “Stop causing trouble, or you’ll find yourself completely
ostracized from the medical community.”
I was left standing outside the banquet hall doors. The sounds of celebration and academic discussion
drifted from within.
My eyes burned red with rage at Elena. Once again, she had managed to turn the tables on me.
How did she always land on her feet while I suffered the consequences?
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
After the banquet ended in the afternoon, I accompanied Professor Theodore in seeing off Professor
Andrew’s team. The distinguished guests departed with warm farewells and promises of future collaboration.
Professor Theodore sensed my distraction as we walked back through the hotel lobby. “You seem troubled,
my dear.”
“Is Sophia the one involved with that Alpha Marcus?” he asked gently.
I confirmed with a nod. “While their relationship doesn’t matter to me anymore, what matters is that Sophia killed my parents.”

Professor Theodore’s expression darkened. “Why haven’t you reported this to the Pack Council?”
“There’s no evidence,” I explained wearily. “And someone powerful is covering up for Sophia.”
Professor Theodore looked guilty. “I feel terrible for not knowing about your suffering. I thought Margaret
Blackwood would protect you.”
He paused, seeming to remember something. “When I had Director Eric Taylor look after you-”
My confusion must have shown on my face. “Director Taylor? I thought that arrangement was your idea.”
Professor Theodore frowned. “It wasn’t. Someone else must have made that request.”
When I came back, I checked on David in his guest bedroom. His condition remained stable, though.
unchanged.
My phone buzzed with a text from Adrian apologizing for not responding earlier. His mother’s condition was
worsening.
I sent back concerned messages, offering any medical assistance he might need.
Footsteps and voices echoed from the Great Hall below. I descended to find two pack guards supporting a
heavily intoxicated Marcus on the sofa.
Amber hurried over with concern. “Should I prepare some sobering herbs?”
When the guards noticed me, they straightened respectfully. “Luna, Alpha Marcus needs-”
“I’m not a caregiver,” I declared coldly, turning to leave.
The guards exchanged quiet criticisms about my seeming heartlessness. Amber quickly silenced them
before Marcus dismissed everyone with a wave.
Later, the sound of something breaking came from Marcus’s room. Glass shattered against the floor with
violent force.
When no one came to help, I knocked on his door. “Don’t cause drunken disturbances!”
Receiving no response, I entered to find Marcus collapsed beside his bed. Broken glass surrounded him,
blood seeping from his cut palm.
Despite my conflicted feelings, my healer instincts took over. “Amber! Bring medical supplies!”
As I examined his wounds, Marcus suddenly pulled me close. “Why would you help when you want me gone?”
“I’m only acting as a healer,” I insisted, trying to maintain professional distance.
He held me tighter, his voice desperate. “Elena, let’s try having a mating bond with real feelings.”
This confession left me stunned. I had waited six years for his love.
But now it came at the cost of my parents‘ lives.
When he tried to nuzzle my neck, I turned away sharply. He immediately released me, apologizing.
As Amber arrived with medical supplies, Marcus insisted firmly, “Elena will treat my wounds.”
