My mind went blank for a moment as I stared at the patient’s exposed skull. The mechanical drill felt foreign in my trembling right hand.
Hugo’s voice came from above me, steady and reassuring. “Just cut as you normally would. You need to prove that you can do it.”
I pressed my lips together and forced my breathing to steady. The familiar weight of responsibility settled over me like a cloak.

A pack nurse noticed his condition and approached quietly. “Professor Ashworth, do you need to rest?
Someone else could take over.”
Hugo maintained his composure with visible effort. His knuckles were white as he gripped the surgical tray.
“I’m fine,” he said firmly, handing me the next instrument without hesitation.
I remained completely focused throughout the procedure. Every fiber of my being concentrated on saving this
patient’s life.
I couldn’t afford to be distracted for even a moment. One wrong move could mean death.
Outside the surgical chamber, Clara Parker’s hysterical crying echoed through the corridor. Her sobs were
raw and desperate.
Jane and another nurse constantly tried to comfort her, but she was inconsolable.
“I just can’t understand how my mate suddenly had a brain hemorrhage when he was perfectly fine!” Clara
wailed.

The sound of her grief penetrated even the sealed surgical chamber. It reminded me why I had to succeed.
Four grueling hours passed like an eternity. My back ached from maintaining the same position.

Finally, I finished suturing the wound with careful precision. Each stitch had to be perfect.
The patient’s vital signs stabilized on the monitors. The steady beeping was the most beautiful sound in the world.
Everyone in the chamber breathed a collective sigh of relief. We had done it.
What was most incredible was Hugo’s endurance. A werewolf with severe mysophobia had endured four hours of bloody surgery.

He collapsed toward me without warning. I quickly caught him as his weight fell against me.

Dr. Edmond Fisher had been keeping watch by Hugo’s bedside in the recovery room. The steady rhythm of the heart monitor filled the quiet space.
Footsteps echoed in the corridor as Hugo’s parents rushed toward the hospital room. Their faces were etched with worry and fear.
Evelyn Ashworth and Theodore Blackwood appeared outside the door, their expressions tense with parental
concern.
As soon as they entered, Dr. Edmond stood up respectfully. “Mr. and Mrs. Ashworth.”
Evelyn’s voice was tight with anxiety. “How did our son faint? What happened?”
Dr. Edmond explained carefully. “Hugo performed surgery while forcing himself to endure the sight of blood.”
Evelyn’s eyes widened in shock. She knew her son’s condition better than anyone.
“That’s impossible,” she breathed. “He has panic attacks at the sight of blood. He’s avoided it for years.” Theodore’s expression darkened as he processed this information. His son had risked his mental health for a
surgery.
“How could he possibly perform surgery?” Evelyn continued, her voice rising with disbelief.
Dr. Edmond cleared his throat. “It was because of Elena. She needed assistance with a critical case.”
“Elena?” Theodore’s frown deepened at the unfamiliar name.
“She’s the new chief healer and the only student of Elder Professor Theodore Ashworth,” Dr. Edmond
explained.
Theodore’s face hardened at this revelation. He knew his father had devoted his life to werewolf medicine.
While he himself hadn’t inherited that talent, his son Hugo had shown promise. But a traumatic incident years ago had nearly cost their family everything.
The child had been left with nightmares and severe reactions to blood–like liquids. Because of this, the elder
had given up training Hugo.

I came from checking on the surgery patient to see how Hugo was recovering. The corridor was unusually
quiet.
Dr. Edmond was sneaking out of Hugo’s room when I approached. His expression was troubled.
“Elena,” he whispered urgently. “There’s a tense atmosphere inside. His parents are here.”
Through the window, I could see two figures by Hugo’s bedside. The woman’s silhouette was still graceful and
curvaceous.
Despite being in her fifties, she maintained a figure like a she–wolf in her twenties or thirties.
Dr. Edmond pulled me aside, his voice low and warning. “If Hugo’s parents start arguing, innocent bystanders could get caught in the crossfire.”
His expression grew more serious. “Especially since you’re Marcus’s mate. Hugo’s father particularly can’t stand the Blackwood surname.”
Before I could inquire further about this family tension, a pack nurse hurried over.
“Healer Elena,” she said breathlessly. “The ““t’s
family is causing trouble in the intensive healing ward.”
My heart sank. “What kind of trouble?”
“They’re refusing to stay in the intensive ward and demanding transfer to a regular room.”
I sighed heavily. “The patient just underwent surgery. He needs constant observation.”
“The family won’t listen to reason,” the nurse continued desperately.
Dr. Edmond and I exchanged glances before heading to the ward together.

We found Clara Parker in the middle of a heated argument with the head nurse. Her voice carried throughout
the entire floor.

“This institute is trying to scam money!” Clara shouted. “Healing equipment costing 20,000 yuan per day!”
The head nurse tried to maintain professional composure. “Mrs. Parker, your mate needs intensive monitoring after brain surgery.”
“I don’t care about your excuses!” Clara’s face was red with anger. “If something goes wrong, who takes
responsibility?”
I stepped forward, trying to project calm authority. “Mrs. Parker, please lower your voice.”
Clara whirled around to face me, her eyes blazing with indignation.
“My daughter Sandy is the lifesaver of that Alpha Marcus from the Northern Territory!” she declared proudly.
Her chest puffed out with false importance. “We almost had a childhood mating bond arranged!”
I felt my eyebrows rise in surprise. “Which Alpha Marcus?”
“The famous Shadow Moon Pack Alpha, of course!” Clara’s voice grew more boastful. “If you disrespect us, I can make this institute pay dearly!”

I replied calmly, my voice steady. “I don’t know about any lifesaver.”
Dr. Edmond couldn’t help but chuckle. “Elena’s mate seems to be surrounded by admirers with all these supposed connections.”
Clara’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Are you mocking me?”
I gave her a direct ultimatum, my patience finally exhausted. “Mrs. Parker, you have two choices.”
“Either follow institute rules and keep your mate in intensive care, or sign a liability waiver,”
Clara’s face twisted with confusion. “What waiver?”
“A document absolving the institute of responsibility if moving to a regular room results in your mate’s death due to inadequate post–surgical care.”
The color drained from Clara’s face as the implications hit her.
“You can’t threaten me!” she sputtered. “I’ll call Alpha Marcus right now!”
I calmly pulled out my phone, my fingers steady as I dialed. “That’s an excellent idea.”
Marcus answered on the first ring. “Elena?”
“Marcus, there’s a family member here claiming to be your lifesaver,” I said clearly. “They’re causing trouble at the institute. Could you come over?”
Clara’s jaw dropped as she realized I actually had direct access to the Alpha.
Her arrogance deflated like a punctured balloon. Guilt flickered in her eyes as the reality of her situation
became clear.
Within minutes, Marcus Blackwood and Amber Stone appeared outside the intensive healing ward. Their presence commanded immediate attention from everyone in the corridor.
Clara’s face changed dramatically when she saw them. Her earlier bravado completely evaporated.
“Elena,” Marcus said, his golden eyes scanning the situation. “What’s the problem here?”

I gestured toward Clara. “This woman claims her daughter saved your life and is demanding special
treatment.”
Clara quickly emerged from the ward, her demeanor completely transformed. She was now fawning and
obsequious.
“Alpha Marcus!” she called out desperately. “This is all a misunderstanding!”
Her voice trembled with nervous energy. “I’m so grateful to Healer Elena for saving my mate’s life!”
