Chapter 181: The Whitmore Family’s Daughter
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
Amber Stone and I walked outside the recovery chamber when Victoria Blackwood suddenly emerged from behind the door. Her presence caught me off guard, and I straightened instinctively.
Amber immediately bowed her head respectfully. “Lady Blackwood.”
Victoria’s sharp gaze swept over me, her expression unreadable. “Amber must have told you about Marcus’s
situation.”
I remained silent, unsure how to respond to this woman who had never shown me anything but cold disapproval.
“I don’t care what you think in your heart,” Victoria continued, her voice clipped and businesslike. “I hope you
can keep him company.”
Her words stung more than I expected. Even now, facing her son’s potential death, she couldn’t bring herself
to speak to me with genuine warmth.
Before I could formulate any response, Victoria adjusted her designer handbag and walked away. Her heels
clicked against the polished floor with military precision.
Amber cleared her throat softly. “Luna, I need to brief you on Marcus’s care routine.”
She handed me a detailed schedule outlining medication times, dietary restrictions, and warning signs to
watch for. The clinical nature of it all made my chest tighten.
“The nurses will handle most of the medical aspects,” Amber explained. “But he responds better when you’re present during treatments.”
I nodded, absorbing the information while trying to process the surreal situation. “How long has he been
hiding this from everyone?”
“Months,” Amber admitted quietly. “He forbade us from telling you.”
After giving me the final instructions, Amber also departed, leaving me alone in the sterile hallway. I stood there for what felt like an eternity, staring at the door that separated me from Marcus.
My hand trembled slightly as I reached for the handle. Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the door to the Alpha’s Recovery Chamber.
Dr. Isaac Barnes emerged from the bedroom just as I entered. He stopped short, his eyes widening in
surprise.
“Elena… Elena Blackwood?” His voice carried genuine shock.
I acknowledged him with a slight nod. “Dr. Barnes.”
Dr. Barnes had known me as Alpha Marcus Blackwood’s secretly mated Luna for years. But something in his expression told me he was seeing me differently now..
I remembered how I used to be around the Blackwood family – polite, submissive, always deferential. Back

then, I seemed like just another beautiful healer, the type Marcus typically showed little interest in
Dr. Barnes shook his head slightly, as if snapping himself back to the present. “Theard you’ve taken a position in Riverside City. Are you back to see Marcus?”
“Marcus’s father asked me to come,” I replied simply.
Dr. Barnes looked taken aback by my formal reference. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion, clearly wondering why I would address my mate’s father so distantly.
I didn’t offer any explanation and moved past him toward the bedroom.
Marcus was leaning against the headboard, medical reports scattered across his lap. He looked up as I entered, his golden eyes widening with momentary stunned silence.
He seemed to guess the reason for my visit immediately. “My parents must have asked you to come, right?”
His voice was weaker than I remembered, rougher around the edges. “You really didn’t have to agree…
“Isn’t this what you wanted?” I interrupted, crossing my arms.
Marcus paused, then let out a bitter chuckle. “I didn’t expect you to think I would resort to such measures.”
He closed the medical reports with deliberate care. “Indeed, I hoped you would come to persuade me to
accept treatment.”
His gaze met mine directly. “But I also thought that if I died, our mate bond would end as you wished.”
“Marcus Blackwood, how childish can you be!” I retorted, feeling both amused and exasperated by his twisted
logic.
I approached the bed, my frustration building. “It’s just a matter of severing our mate bond, and now you’re using your life to threaten me!”
Marcus gazed at me with something that looked almost like fondness. A smile played in his golden eyes. despite his pale complexion.
“Didn’t I say? Severing our mate bond doesn’t exist in my vocabulary, only becoming a widowed Alpha.”
His stubborn declaration made my temper flare. I grabbed his medical reports and tossed them onto the
floor.
“Childish, despicable,” I muttered.
Marcus seized the opportunity to pull me into an embrace, his arms wrapping around me with surprising
strength for someone so ill.
“I am childish, I am despicable, Elena,” he whispered against my ear. “Who asked me to forget you? Maybe
this is my punishment from the Moon Goddess.”
Just as I was about to struggle free from his grasp, a young she–wolf pushed the door open without
knocking.
“Brother Marcus, I heard-”
The girl stopped mid–sentence, taking in the intimate scene before her. Instead of being embarrassed, she
simply paused and turned around casually.
“Oh, Luna is here. Am I interrupting?”

I immediately broke free from Marcus’s embrace, stepping back and smoothing down my clothes. My chee burned with embarrassment at being caught in such a position.
Marcus fixed his gaze on the unfamiliar girl, his expression unsatisfied. “You’ve already disturbed
The girl spun around with youthful energy, greeting us both with a bright, infectious smile.
“You’ll have plenty of time alone together. Forgive me!”
She turned her attention to me specifically, her eyes lighting up with genuine enthusiasm. “Luna, you’re so
beautiful!”
I was taken aback by her sudden warmth and offered a polite smile in return. “You’re very lovely too.”
The girl waved her hand dismissively, her expression becoming more earnest. “I mean it! Don’t be wary of me,
Elena.”
She stepped closer, her voice filled with conviction. “I’m nothing like that fool Isabella Blackwood. I totally support you and my cousin!”
