Chapter 189: Promising Her a Severance
Chapter 189: Promising Her a Severance
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
I didn’t respond to Victoria’s piercing gaze. The weight of her disapproval pressed down on me like a physical
force.
Before Victoria could ask again, Alexander Blackwood slowly interrupted. “Alright, it’s good that you received
treatment.”
He looked at Marcus with the authority of a father and pack elder. “I have some Blackwood Consortium
matters I need to discuss with you privately.”
Marcus agreed with a subtle nod. He composed himself, straightening his shoulders despite his obvious
fatigue.
“We’ll talk later,” he said to me quietly before leaving with his father.
Their footsteps echoed down the sterile corridor until they disappeared around the corner. The silence that followed felt suffocating.
Victoria turned her full attention to me. Her eyes held a calculating coldness that made my skin crawl.
“Elena,” she began, her voice deceptively gentle. “I want to make you a promise.”
I remained silent, waiting for whatever manipulation she had planned.
“If Marcus’s health improves, I will personally ensure your mate bond is severed,” she stated matter–of–factly.
“I can’t bear to see my son suffer any longer,” Victoria continued, her voice taking on a maternal tone.
She stepped closer, her presence intimidating despite her elegant appearance. “A mother has unique feelings
about these things.”
“I especially hope to have grandpups,” she added with pointed emphasis. “Something you’ve clearly failed to
provide.”
The accusation stung more than I expected.
Victoria studied my face for any reaction. When I remained silent, she seemed satisfied.
“Think about it, Elena,” she said as she began to walk past me. “This could be your chance for freedom.”
With that, she left me standing alone in the corridor. Her heels clicked against the floor until the sound faded.
completely.
I stood there, lost in thought, Victoria’s promise echoed in my mind like a cruel joke.
Freedom. Was that what I really wanted? Or was I just too afraid to admit what I actually felt?
(God’s POV)
Hugo Ashworth finished settling David Blackthorne into his recovery chamber. The young man looked so fragile against the white hospital sheets.
Hugo left the room quietly, closing the door behind him with practiced care. His phone vibrated with an
incoring message.
The text was from Elena, thanking him for arranging David’s transfer to the medical center. Her gratitude felt warm despite
Hugo stared at the screen for half a minute. His fingers hovered over the keyboard as he typed and deleted several responses.
Finally, he sent only one sentence: “We’ll talk more about it when you’re back in Riverside City”
Just then, Rachel Thompson approached him. “Dr. Ashworth.”
Hugo acknowledged her with a professional nod after putting away his phone. “Are the transfer procedures completed?”
“Yes, everything’s been handled, Rachel confirmed. “David should be safe here.”
Meanwhile, inside the recovery chamber, David slowly opened his eyes. He could hear the muffled
conversation outside his door.
He stared blankly at the ceiling, his mind replaying Sophia’s cruel words. The fear of being pushed into the water paled compared to the terror her revelations had caused.
“Is my home gone?” he wondered silently. “Does my only sister not want me anymore?”
The questions tormented him more than any physical pain ever could.
(Sophia Rivers’s POV)
When the Northern Territory Pack Enforcement officers approached me, I was having tea with Hazel Green.
The timing couldn’t have been worse.
“Miss Rivers,” the lead officer said formally. “We received a report that you’re suspected of intentionally harming David Blackthorne at the Sanatorium.”
My heart hammered against my ribs, but I kept my expression neutral. “I’m sorry, what?”
“Where were you this morning?” the officer continued, his eyes studying my face for any tells.
I concealed the panic in my eyes and looked at Hazel. She smiled calmly, completely unfazed by the
accusation.
“Officer, you must be mistaken,” Hazel said smoothly. “Miss Rivers has been with me the entire morning.”
The questioning officers frowned. One of them produced a tablet showing surveillance footage.
“How do you explain this evidence from near the Sanatorium?” he asked, turning the screen toward me.
My hand hidden beneath the table tightened into a fist. The image clearly showed someone matching my
description.
I slowly stood up, forcing confidence into my voice. “I don’t know who reported it, but I have never been to the
Sanatorium.”
“Miss Rivers, there is a price to pay for lying,” the officer warned sternly.
Hazel calmly interjected, “My medical facility also has internal surveillance. You can verify it first.
Several officers exchanged glances. They were clearly weighing their options.
Chapter 189 Promising Her a Severance
One officer stayed to watch us while the others followed Hazel’s assistant to the surveillance chamber. The wait felt eternal.
I sat in my seat drinking tea, appearing calm on the surface. But actually, I was completely absent–minded.
If Hazel hadn’t given me a reassuring look, I probably wouldn’t have been able to sit still. My nerves were fraying with each passing second.
Approximately ten minutes later, the officers returned from checking the surveillance. Their expressions had
shifted from suspicion to confusion.
“We need to take a copy of your facility’s surveillance for investigation,” the lead officer announced. “Please keep your communication channels open to cooperate with our investigation.”
Hazel smiled and nodded graciously. “Of course, officer. My assistant will copy the surveillance immediately
She signaled to her assistant, who quickly began the copying process. The officers waited patiently, their earlier aggression now replaced with professional courtesy.
After the officers left, my composure finally cracked. My hand holding the teacup was covered in cold sweat The moment I put down the teacup, I didn’t hold it steady. Tea spilled across the polished table surface.
“What’s wrong, are you scared already?” Hazel asked with amusement.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. “The surveillance is, after all, edited and fabricated. They’ll find out sooner or later.”
Hazel played with her teacup, completely relaxed. “Don’t worry, since I dare to forge this surveillance, I naturally have ways to deal with it.”
My fingers tightened, pinching the delicate porcelain. This woman was indeed not simple.
But I had indeed had bad luck, running into those few people. Speaking of which, Rachel Thompson was truly my greatest threat.
“Ms. Green, you are indeed not simple.”
