Chapter 199: A Kiss
Chapter 199: A Kiss
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
David looked at me, almost collapsing. “I know everything, Mother and Father are gone, and you are not my biological sister.”
His voice cracked with pain. “My sister wouldn’t abandon me…”
The words hit me like physical blows. David’s eyes were red with tears and betrayal.
I was stunned for a few seconds. Seeing him take a step back, his hand trembling on the railing, I desperately tried to salvage our relationship.
“David! I didn’t abandon you! No matter who I am, in my heart, you are my own brother!”
My voice broke with emotion. “Twenty years of companionship, growing up together, are you going to deny it all because of this?”
The wind whipped around us on the rooftop. David’s face was a mask of anguish and confusion.
“But Sophia said…” he murmured, still in shock.
I immediately seized the opportunity to discredit her. “I don’t know what Sophia told you, but can you really trust her words!”
My voice grew stronger with conviction. “You were in a coma for months, and Mother and Father’s accident
was related to her. I remember all of this!”
“So, I can’t let her go so easily!” I continued, my hands clenched into fists.
I approached him slowly, my voice filled with raw emotion. “I only have you as my brother, and the
Blackthorne family only has you!”
Tears streamed down my face. “Do you want to abandon me too?”
David remained unresponsive, his grip on the railing still tight. The silence stretched between us like a
chasm.
Suddenly, Firefighter Blake, secured by a safety rope, climbed up from the other side. He moved with practiced efficiency.
In one swift motion, he pulled David back to safety. They both fell to the ground with a heavy thud.
The firefighter held him down firmly. “I’ve got you, son. You’re safe now.”
Finally, David stopped resisting. His body went limp with exhaustion and defeat.
Rachel Thompson and the medical staff quickly took him back to the recovery ward. Their movements were urgent but careful.
As a family member who had failed to take proper care, I stayed behind. I needed to liaise with the pack enforcement and firefighters,
“Thank you so much,” I said to each of them. “I can’t express how grateful I am.”

The firefighter captain nodded. “Just make sure he gets the help he needs.”

Soon after, the enforcement officers and firefighters departed. The rooftop fell silent except for the wind.
I was about to leave when I noticed Hugo Ashworth was still present. He stood near the fire escape, waiting.
“Professor Ashworth?” I asked, approaching him. “Are you still here?”
He replied simply, “Waiting for you.”
I was taken aback by his directness. Then I remembered something and took out a box from my bag.
“Oh, right, this is for you.” I held out the carefully wrapped gift.
Hugo raised an eyebrow. “A lighter?”
My hand paused mid–air. I looked up in confusion. “How did you know?”
He answered without hesitation. “Dr. Fisher said so.”
I was speechless. Of course Dr. Fisher would have told him about our conversation.
Hugo took the box from me and opened it. The vintage brass lighter gleamed in the afternoon light.
He smiled genuinely. “Not bad taste.”
Just as I was about to say something, Marcus appeared at the elevator entrance. He stood there motionless, his gaze fixed on the Vintage Brass Lighter with Intricate Wolf Engravings in Hugo’s hand.
Hugo also turned his head toward the Alpha. The tension between them was immediate and palpable.
Hooked away, feeling inexplicably hesitant to meet Marcus’s deep golden eyes. I had lied to him, but he had
also lied to me.
So why should I feel awkward? I pursed my lips. “Professor Ashworth, I’m going to see my brother.”
He smiled warmly. “Go ahead.”
I walked toward the elevator. Marcus waited for me without moving, his expression unreadable.
After I entered the elevator, he looked at Hugo again. His jaw clenched, his expression gloomy and unnatural.
After he entered the elevator, no one spoke as the doors closed. The atmosphere was heavy with unspoken
tension.
Lost in thought, I didn’t notice when the Alpha beside me loosened his collar. The confined space felt suffocating
Suddenly, he grabbed my waist and pinned me against the wall. His lips crashed against mine in a desperate
kiss.
I was startled by the sudden assault. When I came to my senses, he was biting my lip, driven by a surge of
raw emotion.
My lips went numb with pain. I tried to push him away several times, but he wouldn’t budge.
His grip was iron–strong, his kiss punishing and possessive. Only when I stopped resisting did he pull away.
His eyes were filled with sadness and accusation. “Why did you lie to me?”
I pressed my lips together, offering no response. The taste of blood lingered between us.

Just then, the elevator doors opened with a soft chime. As I hurriedly pushed him away, two Surgical
Department Nurses outside saw us.
One of the nurses recognized me immediately. “Healer Elena… Healer Elena?”
I nodded stiffly, my face burning with embarrassment. I rushed out of the elevator without looking back.
I returned to David’s recovery chamber quickly. To prevent David from attempting suicide again, Rachel Thompson was guarding him.
Seeing me enter, she slowly stood up. “Elena.”
N nodded gratefully. “Thank you for your hard work.”
“It’s nothing.” Rachel finished speaking and moved aside. “Then you talk, I’ll go get busy.”
After Rachel left, I sat down by the bed. David leaned against the headboard, looking completely lost.
After a long silence, his voice was hoarse. “Mother and Father are really…gone?”

In his mind, he had only slept for a while. When he woke up, his foster parents were gone, and his home was
gone.
This would be a blow and a nightmare for anyone. I lowered my eyes, not answering directly.
He turned his head and wiped away fresh tears. The sight broke my heart all over again.
I reached out and placed my hand on the back of his hand. “You still have me. From now on, I will still be your
sister.
Before David could speak, a figure appeared at the door. Seeing Marcus, David became violently agitated. “Aren’t you protecting that b***h Sophia? How dare you show your face here!” His voice rose with fury.
“Don’t put on a hypocritical act to see me, I don’t care!”
