Chapter 203: Unexpected Encounters
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
Marcus and I returned to our private dining chamber to wait. We sat face to face, neither of us speaking.
The silence hung heavy in the air between us. An unspoken tension was palpable, crackling like electricity.
Marcus broke the quiet. He leaned back in his chair and loosened his collar with deliberate slowness.
“Do you have anything to say to me?” he asked, his golden eyes fixed on mine.
I retorted without hesitation. “What do you want to hear? My words won’t be pleasant.”
Marcus anticipated my response. He refrained from pressing further, his jaw tightening slightly.
Alexander Blackwood returned at that moment. His expression suggested he was lost in thought after his
unexpected reunion with Evelyn Ashworth.
Marcus, with a hint of sarcasm, inquired about his father’s conversation. “Was your chat pleasant?”
Alexander frowned at the insinuation. “Don’t overthink things. And don’t go telling your mother Victoria about
this.”
Marcus retorted sharply. “Mother hardly needs me to inform on you, given her nature.”
I subtly pursed my lips at this exchange. The family dynamics were always complicated.
Alexander noticed my reaction immediately. He shifted the topic with practiced ease.
“Let’s order food and return home early,” he suggested, his voice carrying finality.
During the meal, the father and son remained largely silent. I focused on eating, trying to ignore the tension.
The sudden ring of my cell phone startled me. It was Adrian calling.
Marcus watched me intently, his gaze unwavering and intense. I could feel his attention like a physical
weight.
“I need to take a call outside,” I informed Alexander politely.
Alexander nodded in agreement. “Go ahead.”
In the corridor, I answered the call quickly. “Brother.”
Adrian’s voice came through immediately. “Have you returned to Riverside City with the Blackwood family?”
I confirmed his suspicion. “Yes, I had to return because of David’s accident.”
“I’m concerned for his safety in Riverside City,” I continued, my voice dropping to a whisper. “I want to bring him away from there.”
Adrian offered without hesitation. “I can have someone pick David up.”
“I’ll discuss it with him first and contact you later,” I replied gratefully. “Thank you.”
“Take care of yourself in Riverside City,” Adrian warned, his protective instincts evident.

I assured him quickly. “I will.”
With the phone call concluded, I felt some relief wash over me. At least David would have options.
As I was about to return to the private dining chamber, a server passed by. He was carrying fruit into another
room nearby.
I overheard a familiar voice exclaiming loudly. “Why should I listen to your arrangements!”
I paused, recognizing the voice immediately. Peering through the slightly open door, I saw Jane Ports.
After the server exited, I shushed him when he was about to speak to me. I needed to hear this conversation.
Inside the room, Mrs. Harrison frowned at her daughter’s resistance. She tried to persuade Jane with
maternal authority.
“Since your sister left, you’re the only daughter left in the family,” Mrs. Harrison explained patiently. “A mating alliance is unavoidable.”
Jane’s voice cracked with emotion. “Should my life be sacrificed for the family’s sake?”
Chairman Harrison’s anger erupted suddenly. “As a member of the Harrison Pack, you should be willing to
sacrifice for it!”
I was stunned by his harsh words. Was this the Harrison Pack I knew? The same family that had always seemed so warm and welcoming?
I was slightly distracted by these revelations. I didn’t notice someone approaching from behind.
A man leaned forward slightly, getting close to me. “What are you looking at?”
The sudden voice startled me completely. I turned to find Marcus standing close by, his presence overwhelming.
Regaining my composure, I quickly stepped away from him. My heart was racing from the surprise. Unexpectedly, Marcus pushed open the door to the private dining chamber before I could stop him. His movement was swift and decisive.
Everyone in the room was taken aback by the sudden intrusion. The conversation stopped abruptly. Jane hastily wiped away her tears, trying to compose herself. Her face was flushed with embarrassment.
Chairman Harrison recognized the person at the door immediately. He put down his teacup and stood up with respect.
“Alpha Marcus,” he addressed formally, his voice carrying deference despite the awkward timing.
