Chapter 234: Can you really do it?
(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)
At this moment, I suddenly stopped and turned my head. Elena stood there motionless in the hallway, her figure silhouetted against the warm light from the estate’s chandeliers,
My thin lips slowly closed and moved. “What’s wrong?”
Elena withdrew her gaze from me, her voice quiet but firm. “It’s not cold inside.’”
This was her response to my suggestion about taking a jacket. Before I could answer again, she walked out the door without looking back.
I watched her figure disappear behind the heavy wooden door. The hand I had clenched at my side slowly loosened, my fingers uncurling one by one.
I suspected myself all the time. Can I really do it? Can I really give her away to someone else?
The question haunted me like a silver blade twisting in my chest. Every rational part of my Alpha mind told me it was the right choice. Elena deserved happiness, deserved someone who could love her without the weight of our complicated past.
But my wolf howled in protest at the very thought.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
The department’s dinner was at a small courtyard–style outdoor restaurant. This restaurant belonged to a private kitchen and only did business with regular customers.
Dr. Edmund Fisher, who had a wide circle of friends, happened to be an old acquaintance of the restaurant owner. He had chosen this place for our gathering.
I had just walked into the courtyard when everyone at the table looked at me. I was stunned.
Apart from Dr. Fisher, I only knew two or three people present. The remaining four seemed to be from other departments.
This was the first time I had met them. I seemed a little reserved at the moment.
Dr. Fisher immediately got up to greet me. “Dr. Blackwood, we’ve been waiting for you, come quickly!”
“Okay.” I found a seat and sat down, trying to appear more relaxed than I felt.

The doctor from the Vision Healing Ward looked at Dr. Fisher with curiosity. “Is this really a healer from your surgical department?”
Dr. Fisher frowned at the question. “What do you mean? Are you looking down on the fact that we don’t have beauties in the surgical department?”
The other party curled his lips in amusement. “What’s the point of beauties all going to your surgical department? It’s better to come to our vision healing ward.”
“Come on, if a beauty goes to your vision healing ward, she’ll turn into a bald–headed little darling after working for a while!” Dr. Fisher shot back.
The others laughed heartily. They all seemed to be old acquaintances, getting along quite
harmoniously.
Their easy banter helped me relax slightly. It felt good to be around normal pack interactions
for once.
“Your Grilled Venison Skewers are here.” The female boss brought the venison skewers to the
table.
I felt the voice was familiar. I looked back and the other party recognized me immediately.
“It’s you?” she said with surprise.
I was stunned. “Dr. Lennox?”
Dr. Fisher looked between the two of us with interest. “Dr. Lennox, do you know Dr. Blackwood?”
Dr. Merritt Lennox straightened up and smiled warmly. “I had the pleasure of meeting her. So you are colleagues?”
“That’s quite fate.” After Dr. Fisher finished speaking, he introduced to me, “Dr. Lennox used to be from the Moonstone Psychological Clinic in our District Medical Center. Later, she resigned and went out to work alone. This restaurant is also hers. Oh, by the way, she is a classmate with Hugo!”
I smiled politely. “I see.”
“Aren’t you and Hugo Ashworth inseparable? Why didn’t you call him when you came out for dinner?” Dr. Lennox joked with Dr. Fisher.
Dr. Fisher glanced at me, full of confidence. “Do I need to call him? He’ll be here soon. Before long, Hugo Ashworth did arrive late. The light blue shirt he was wearing happened to

Under the crowd’s black and white clothes, the similar colors on the two of us was very conspicuous.
Dr. Fisher picked up his glass and took a sip. He put his arm around his friend and joked, “Yo, you two didn’t agree to wear couple outfits, did you?”
As soon as these words came out, everyone looked at Hugo and me. I choked on my drink.
This was obviously just a pure color clash! Nothing more than coincidence.
Hugo’s gaze swept over me briefly. When the person sitting next to me asked if he wanted to make room, he refused with a smile.
“No need to bother, I’ll sit here.”
Someone asked curiously, “Aren’t you two mates?”
Dr. Fisher subconsciously wanted to cover his mouth, realizing he might have said something inappropriate.
I smiled awkwardly. Just as I was about to answer, Hugo opened his mouth first.
“Not yet.”
He said not yet. Everyone looked at each other with knowing expressions.
So this meant he hadn’t claimed me yet? The implication hung heavy in the air.
Dr. Lennox brought all the Moonhaven Pack Feast Provisions to the table. The spread looked delicious and carefully prepared.
Dr. Fisher took over for her. “You should just hire a waiter!”
“It’s okay, it’s just you guests. Are you worried that I can’t take care of you?” she replied with a laugh.
“Then you should sit down and have a drink with us.”
Dr. Lennox patted him on the shoulder. “I’ll come over when I’m done.”
Then she said to everyone, “Just call me if you want to eat anything.”
After she entered the Private Dining Chamber, I didn’t stay long. I found an excuse to go to the bathroom and followed her into the room.
Hugo’s gaze fell on my back as I left. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

Dr. Lennox was at the bar wiping wine glasses. There was only her in the living room.

It was very different from the lively atmosphere outside. Hearing the sound of the wind chimes, she looked up and smiled when she saw it was me.
“How is your heart condition controlled? Has it gotten worse?”
I lowered my eyes. “It hasn’t.”
She smiled faintly, seemingly with emotion. “That’s good, which means your condition is controllable. You don’t need to take so much medicine, and you don’t need to face so many physical changes.”
I looked at Dr. Lennox, then looked around the room. “I didn’t expect you to open a late–night restaurant. What about your daytime psychological clinic?”
“I’ve already closed the clinic.”
I was stunned. “Closed it?”
Dr. Lennox put the wiped wine glass on the shelf. “I’ve been a psychologist for seven or eight years, and I feel that my own psychology has some problems, so I simply closed it.”
I didn’t speak again. Her honesty was both refreshing and concerning.
The wind chime on the door swayed. I turned my head and saw Hugo walking in.
Dr. Lennox put her hand on the table. “Long time no see, old classmate, what do you need?”
“Premium Blue Agave Tequila.”
“Your taste hasn’t changed, you always order this every time you come back.” Dr. Lennox turned to get the wine.
He spoke again. “Give her a drink.”
Dr. Lennox turned to look at us both. I was stunned.
“I still have wine outside…”
“Drink less alcohol, it’s bad for your health.”
“Then why are you drinking?”
He said solemnly, “I’m a man.”
Dr. Lennox smiled knowingly. “Are you two in love?”
