“Need the Harrison Pack? What does this mean?” Celeste Harrison was stunned for a few seconds, her mind racing to understand the implications of Fred Xavier’s statement.
The words echoed in her head like a death knell. Her heart pounded against her ribs as the full weight of his casual threat settled over her.
Fred Xavier signaled his security team with a subtle nod. Two large men in dark suits stepped forward from the shadows.
“Wait!” Celeste protested anxiously. “My parents are still waiting for me in the dining room. They’ll be worried if I don’t-”
Before she could finish her sentence, she felt a sharp pain at the back of her neck. The world tilted sideways as consciousness fled from her body.
The guards caught her limp form before she could hit the ground.
Hazel Green emerged from the secluded area, her heels clicking against the marble floor. Her calculating eyes swept over the unconscious girl.
“What are your true intentions regarding the Harrison Pack alliance?” she questioned Fred Xavier directly.
Fred’s predatory smile never wavered. “Business, my dear Hazel. Always business.”
“Chairman Harrison and Mrs. Harrison would never agree to this mating arrangement if they knew your real motives,” Hazel pointed out.
Fred remained silent, his lack of response more menacing than any verbal threat. The silence stretched between them like a taut wire.
“I can help Celeste escape from the hotel safely,” Hazel offered, though her own motivations remained unclear.
Fred’s eyes glittered with dark amusement. “How generous of you.”
After Hazel Green had secretly moved the unconscious Celeste to a secure location, Fred returned to the private dining chamber. His footsteps were measured and calm, betraying nothing of what had just transpired.

Chairman Harrison was reaching for his phone when Fred entered. “I should call Celeste. She’s been gone quite a while.”
“No need,” Fred said casually, settling back into his chair. “She just told me she was returning
to her room to rest.”
Chairman Harrison’s hand froze over his phone. “She did? But she seemed so engaged in our
conversation earlier.”
“Young she–wolves can be unpredictable,” Fred replied smoothly. “She mentioned feeling tired from her healing work.”
Chairman Harrison was stunned. His daughter had seemed perfectly fine moments ago. Why had she suddenly changed her mind about the mating arrangement?
“Are there any other concerns about proceeding with the alliance?” Fred asked, his tone deceptively pleasant.
Chairman Harrison recovered his composure quickly. Pack politics required adaptability. “Since Celeste has agreed, we should select a date for the mating ceremony next month.”
Fred turned to Felix, who had remained silent throughout the evening. “What’s your opinion on the arrangement, son?”
Felix put down his wine glass with deliberate precision. The crystal made a soft chiming sound against the table.
“I have no objection to the proposed mating,” he stated flatly.
The two pack families had reached an agreement. Chairman Harrison and Mrs. Harrison raised their glasses in unison.
“To the union of our territories,” Chairman Harrison declared.
The Xavier family responded in kind, celebrating the upcoming alliance that would bind their packs together.
After leaving the dining table, Fred Xavier and Felix headed toward the parking area. A bodyguard had positioned their luxury vehicle near the exit.
As Felix settled into the leather seat, he detected a cold feminine perfume lingering in the air. The heavy jasmine fragrance seemed out of place in their usual vehicle.
He lowered the window to dissipate the cloying scent. “Did Hazel Green come to see you?” Fred loosened his cuff buttons and confirmed with a nod. “She did visit. This woman is still

as calculating as ever.”
“But aren’t you fond of this type of manipulative female?” Felix commented.

Fred wasn’t offended by the observation. He casually played with his phone, scrolling through
messages.
Felix’s nicotine addiction flared up, but he resisted lighting a cigarette. He disliked mixing tobacco smoke with the perfume smell already contaminating the vehicle.
“Aren’t you going to consult me about moving the mating ceremony forward?” Felix asked.
“Aren’t you satisfied with Celeste Harrison as your chosen mate?” Fred questioned in return.
Felix shrugged. “She’s acceptable. A mate in the family is merely to elevate my status within the pack hierarchy.”
Fred’s smile turned predatory. “Celeste is now temporarily under my control. The Harrison Pack no longer has any opportunity to withdraw from their agreement.”
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
I had spent most of the past three days immersed in my healing work. The constant stream of patients helped quiet my restless mind, though sleep remained elusive.
I had even forgotten to return Dr. Merritt Lennox’s coat until three days later when the memory suddenly surfaced.
When I went to Hugo Ashworth’s office, he wasn’t there. The space felt empty without his scholarly presence.
I found Dr. Edmund Fisher in the break room. “Do you know where Professor Ashworth is?”
“He requested leave due to family matters,” Dr. Fisher replied, stirring his coffee. “Didn’t say when he’d be back.”
I didn’t pry into what kind of situation the Ashworth family was dealing with. Pack families often had private matters that required discretion.
As I left his office and walked toward the Steel Ascent, the elevator doors opened. I froze in shock.
Marcus Blackwood stood inside the elevator. Mia Ashworth stood beside him, their shoulders almost touching.
Their conversation came to an abrupt halt as the elevator doors opened. The sudden silence was deafening.

Mia turned to look at me, offering a polite smile. “Miss Blackwood, aren’t you getting in?”
Marcus also gazed at me, his golden eyes deep and unreadable.
