Felix Xavier ended his phone call and slipped the device into his pocket. His predatory gaze shifted to Mia Ashworth, a slow smile spreading across his face.
“Little Mia has grown up so much,” he said, his tone carrying an undertone that made my skin crawl.
Mia’s expression immediately soured. She recognized him instantly, and the displeasure was written all over her delicate features.
“Felix Xavier,” she said coldly. “I remember you used to pull my hair during pack gatherings when we were children.”
Felix chuckled, seemingly amused by the memory. “Children will be children. How are your parents these days?”
“They’re well,” Mia replied curtly, her voice clipped with barely contained irritation.
She turned to me with urgency in her eyes. “Elena, we should leave now.”
As we moved to pass Felix, I couldn’t help but stare at the phone he’d just used. The familiar pink case with small rhinestones was unmistakably Celeste’s.
Felix noticed my gaze and his smile turned mocking. “Miss Blackwood, you and Marcus should attend my mating ceremony next month.”
He deliberately pulled out the phone again, waving it slightly. “I’m sure it will be quite the celebration.”
The implication in his gesture was clear – he had control over Celeste, and he wanted me to know it.

Mia and I entered our reserved private dining chamber. The elegant space felt suffocating after that encounter.

Felix’s smile vanished the moment the door closed behind Elena and Mia. His expression hardened as he returned to his own private chamber.

Inside, Celeste Harrison sat rigidly in her chair, flanked by two imposing security guards. Her wrists bore the faint marks of silver restraints, and her face was pale but defiant.
“You’re plotting something,” she accused, her voice hoarse but determined. “My parents will discover your schemes eventually.”
Felix settled into the chair across from her, his movements casual and controlled.
“Even if you force me into a mating bond with your family,” Celeste continued, “I will never accept being your mate.”
Felix’s laugh was cold and calculating. “Scheme? There’s no scheme here, Miss Harrison.”
He leaned forward slightly. “This mating arrangement was agreed upon by both our families for mutual benefit.”
His voice took on a cruel edge. “Your parents agreed to this alliance for their own interests. They’re not concerned about your disappearance, otherwise they would be worried by now.”
Celeste’s face paled further, but her resolve didn’t waver.
“Whether you accept it or not,” Felix warned, “the decision is not up to you.”

Back in our chamber, Mia and I sat across from each other at the polished table. The tension from our encounter with Felix still lingered in the air.
“Do you know Felix Xavier well?” I asked, trying to keep my voice casual.
Mia nodded, her expression troubled. “He used to visit our home during pack gatherings when we were younger.”
I took a sip of water, my mind racing with questions about Felix and his family.
“I’m curious about his father, Fred Xavier,” I said carefully. “Why did he resign from his position as bank director?”
Mia’s brow furrowed as she considered the question. “His father resigned because he offended someone important.”
She paused, seeming uncertain. “But I’m not sure of the exact reason. It happened years ago.”
I decided not to press further. My thoughts drifted to the bank theft that had occurred around that time – money that was stolen but never officially reported.

Obviously, the loss had been quietly written off in the accounts without detection.

It was nearly midnight when I returned to Shadowmere Heights Residential Complex. The hallway was dimly lit, casting long shadows across the carpeted floor.
As I approached my apartment door, I froze in shock.
Marcus Blackwood sat slumped against my door, his usually immaculate appearance disheveled. His expensive suit was wrinkled, and his dark hair fell across his forehead.
“Marcus?” I called out hesitantly.
He looked up at me, his golden eyes unfocused. “I was waiting for you.”
As I moved closer, the strong scent of alcohol hit me like a physical blow. My enhanced werewolf senses recoiled from the overwhelming smell.
“Are you drunk?” I asked, frowning at his condition.
Marcus struggled to his feet, using the door frame for support. His movements were unsteady, and he swayed slightly as he blocked my path to the door.
“I still can’t bring myself to let you be with another man,” he said, his words slightly slurred but filled with raw emotion.
His eyes locked onto mine with desperate intensity. “Elena, can’t you give me a chance?”
I reached out instinctively to help steady him, but he suddenly pulled me into his arms. My body stiffened in shock, and I immediately began to struggle against his embrace.
His arms tightened around me, his hands trembling against my back. The scent of moonlight wine and his familiar cologne created a dizzying combination that made my wolf stir restlessly.
“I still can’t bring myself to let you be with another man,” he repeated, his voice breaking with vulnerability. “Elena, can’t you give me a chance?”
