Chapter 30: Public Confrontation
(Elena’s POV)
William Cross’s face turned ugly as he stepped closer to me. “Elena, you don’t want your reputation, but the institute still needs its reputation!”
I fired back with cold sarcasm. “Senior William, do you think the Northern Territory Central Healing Institute is your personal property to stage such a drama?”
Before Cross could respond, Heidi Cross pointed at me angrily. Her face was twisted with rage.
“You little she–wolf!” she screamed. “How dare you seduce my mate!”
She waved her finger accusingly. “Your mated status on the records is fake! No one has ever seen your mate!”
The surrounding pack healers began whispering among themselves. They knew I was mated but had never
met Marcus.
“William admitted it himself,” Heidi continued triumphantly. “Your so–called mate is actually him!”
The whispers grew louder. Some healers nodded, believing her accusations made sense.
I watched Sophia from the corner of my eye. She stood with barely concealed satisfaction, anticipating my
next move.
Would I dare reveal my mate bond with Alpha Marcus? Regardless of what I chose, she was confident this
scandal would stick.
I defended myself calmly. “I don’t even have Senior William’s private phone number or personal contact.”
My voice remained steady despite the hostile crowd. “How could an affair be conducted using only institute
communications?”
Cross panicked, his eyes darting to Sophia for guidance. He genuinely didn’t know about my private contact details because we had none.
Sophia tried to cover quickly. “Perhaps Elena deleted the contacts to hide evidence.”
I countered immediately. “How could I have known in advance to delete evidence before Mrs. Cross’s surprise confrontation?”
The logic of my defense began swaying the onlookers. They realized the accusations didn’t make practical
sense.
Heidi struggled with the failing plan. She hadn’t prepared proper details for the staged confrontation.
Suddenly, Director Henry Baker’s voice cut through the crowd. “What’s happening here?”
The crowd parted respectfully. But everyone’s attention immediately shifted to Marcus, who had ar behind the director.
My heart stopped. Marcus stood there with his usual commanding presence, golden eyes surveying the
scene.

Baker asked again, his voice carrying authority. “What is everyone doing here?”
As I prepared to approach him, Sophia quickly grabbed my arm. Her grip was tight and warning.
“Director, it’s just casual conversation,” she said smoothly.
She whispered threateningly in my ear. “You wouldn’t want to make things difficult for the director by escalating this situation.”
Baker sensed Alpha Marcus’s presence made the situation delicate. He excused himself back to his office, leaving us alone.
After Director Baker left, Sophia signaled the Cross couple to continue. Her eyes gleamed with malicious
intent.
Heidi immediately grabbed me despite my resistance. “We’re going outside to resolve our issue!”
Marcus spoke unexpectedly. “What problem needs to be resolved?”
Sophia tensed, carefully observing his expression. His face remained calm and emotionless, giving nothing
away.
Heidi blurted out her accusation. “This she–wolf seduced my mate!”
Marcus’s eyes grew deep and unreadable. William stepped forward, apologizing nervously.
“Alpha, I’m sorry for this embarrassing private matter,” Cross stammered. He tried to drag me away.
But Marcus’s gaze turned sharp as he stared directly at me. “You seduced him?”
I responded with cold sarcasm. “If being in the same room constitutes seduction, then Senior William and Sophia’s recent closeness might also be considered seduction.”
Cross’s face changed dramatically. “Sophia is Alpha Marcus’s chosen one! Do you think you’re as shameless
as her?”
I looked directly at Marcus. My voice was bold and challenging.
“Is Sophia really Alpha Marcus’s chosen mate?”
The onlookers were stunned by my direct challenge. Whispers erupted about the relationship dynamics.
Sophia bit her lip, filled with hatred toward me. Their relationship had always been ambiguous, and she feared public humiliation if Marcus denied it.
Taking a deep breath, Sophia grabbed Marcus’s sleeve. “I’m sorry for causing Elena’s misunderstanding.”
Marcus interrupted her coldly. “Misunderstanding what?”
His eyes remained fixed on me. “Do our feelings need to worry about others‘ misunderstandings?”
This statement seemed to confirm his unwavering feelings for Sophia over the years.

Sophia was initially surprised but then overjoyed. She linked arms with him, calling his name Marcus withdrew his gaze and left with Sophia. She looked back at me with triumph and provocation in her
eyes.
The crowd buzzed with excitement about Alpha Marcus’s public acknowledgment of his relationship with Sophia.

I lowered my eyes, thinking bitterly that he had finally publicly acknowledged her. As I tried to leave, Heidi grabbed me back.
“We’re not finished!” she snarled. “The matter of seducing my mate isn’t resolved!”
I asked incredulously. “How long do you plan to continue this act now that Sophia is gone?”
Heidi insisted angrily. “This isn’t an act! You’re a she–wolf seductress!”
She demanded I resign from the institute immediately. In her rage, she pushed me forcefully.
I lost my balance and fell backward toward the concrete steps. My head was about to hit the hard surface. At the critical moment, a figure quickly appeared behind me. He used his own body to cushion my fall. After the impact, I found myself unharmed but lying on top of someone who had protected me from injury.
I quickly got up and was surprised to see Nathan Sterling. He was covering his arm in pain but still managed a strained smile.
“I’m fine,” he insisted, though clearly hurt.
As I helped him up, Heidi spat contemptuously. “This proves Elena is indeed a seductress who attracts any male she meets!”
I finally lost my temper. “Watch your language! I won’t tolerate being slandered and insulted any longer!”
My voice rang with authority. “I refuse to be treated like a pushover!”
Someone in the crowd recognized Nathan. “That’s the young master of the Sterling family!”
People began speculating about his relationship with me. William suddenly realized the significance of dealing with someone from the prominent Sterling family.
His expression changed as the situation took an unexpected turn.
