Chapter 38
THREE DAYS LATER:
“Fine, I accept,” Shirley muttered with her arms folder underneath her breast as she watched Ethan get ready for work,
His
gaze
had been fixated on the mirror while adjusting his tie, but he raised his brows without turning to look at her and let out a deep breath,
“You accept what?”
“I accept for that wench to be my daughter’s doctor, Ethan….” Shirley paused and came closer to him afterward, “If that would make you happy. I know how much you’re worried about Eva, and I am too.” She murmured, but Ethan remained quiet to listen,
“Say something,” Shirley murmured again, but Ethan only turned towards her, and tucked his hand into his pocket,
“Thank you for agreeing, but I would love it if you would leave all of this to me. You and Olivia don’t have a good past, so stay out of it till you see a reason to butt in, Shirley.” Ethan finally responded with a calm voice,
The small smile on Shirley’s face turned into a frown, but when she took a deep breath in, she was able to calm herself down,
All of this was for a reason so she had to just keep playing along with whatever rules he made. She had long lost her love for Ethan when she realized that he would never stop loving Olivia instead of her. It was best to take whatever she needed and run far away with her daughter,
“Alright. I promise I won’t try to cause any ruckus. I just want to see my baby alright once again and even if I have to condone with Olivia for as long as possible, I will.”
She moved closer to him and held his tie while he kept staring at her,
“And most importantly, I’m doing this just because I love you, Ethan. I love you so much and I would do just anything for you.”
Ethan cleared his throat aloud when she leaned in for a kiss,
“I’m late for work, Shirley. Some major clients are arriving today from Italy.”
Shirley let out a fake smile, “I’ll have Eva transferred to another hospital as soon as possible.” He continued and she nodded her head. As soon as Ethan was done dressing, he took his suitcase from the bed, and without sparing Shirley a glance, he walked out of the room,
“Luke, how long do we have?” Ethan questioned as soon as he got out,
The car door was opened, and he stepped in, “50 more minutes, boss.”
“That’s less than I expected, drive as fast as you can.” He instructed, and Luke ignited the engine immediately.
45 minutes later, the car halted,
“Five more minutes.” Luke answered and Ethan nodded his head, “Just in time.” He uttered as he picked up his suitcase and stepped out of the car. It had been almost two long weeks since Ethan came to his company because he had been so busy,

Ethan desperately wanted one thing now, it was to focus on his company and maybe forget a little about Olivia because

just like she had wished for, he was going to try hard to give her the space that she wanted,
That was exactly what his brain kept saying, but not his heart. The heart that had longed for his ex–wife and the heart that had searched for her for so long,
“Good day, sir. You look really good today.” Ethan’s secretary uttered, following behind him. It had been so long since she saw her boss look like this. Probably six years ago, and that great composure was back after so many years,
Ethan halted and turned towards her, “The woman I love with all my heart is back, Sandra.” He muttered, but the lady arched her brows in confusion, holding the tablet close to her chest. What the hell was wrong with her boss all of a sudden? He had never been this happy for so long and it was totally surprising,
She smiled back at him, and watched Ethan open the door to his office,
“What about Mr Andrew?”
“He called earlier to say he’ll be 2 minutes late. His wife was recently put to bed, and he had to be there for her.” Sandra uttered with a calm voice still gripping the tablet tight. She had expected Ethan to get annoyed just like he always did whenever there was a shift or change in his scheduled meeting, but he was rather calm,
“Alright. What next?”
“Sir, you have a sudden guest requesting an urgent meeting with you. It wasn’t part of your schedule earlier, so I declined the request.”
Ethan had been staring at his laptop the entire time, but he raised his gaze at Sandra once she was done talking,
“Who is it?”
“Ms Olivia Rowan.”
The look of confusion was so evident on Ethan’s face, and he responded sharply, “What?”
His sudden response made Sandra jerk a little in fright,
“Approve the meeting as soon as possible. Shift every other meeting till I’m done with Ms Olivia.”
“What?” Sandra questioned in utmost shock. Since she had been working for Ethan for 10 years, never for once had he adjusted his schedule. That was one thing he hated so much, but right now, he was adjusting his schedule all for this ‘Olivia Rowan.’
Who was she anyway? Ethan Fordham couldn’t be cheating on his girlfriend, could he? Sandra thought silently, but immediately discarded the thought as soon as she heard Ethan’s voice again,
“What are you still waiting for Sandra?”
“Oh, I’m so sorry, sir; I’ll do as you’ve said right away.” She uttered, fluttering her lashes countless times after returning to reality,
“I’ll take my leave now.” She muttered, turned around, and walked away.
As soon as the door shut, Ethan adjusted his tie and heaved deeply. Though his fingers were still on his laptop they were trembling so much. He had never imagined that Olivia would want to see him again enough to request a meeting. Was it something that important? What if she was in trouble?
Ethan’s heart raced, and at the side of the table, his gaze averted to his phone. The temptation to pick up the phone and call Olivia played in his head, but when he remembered Olivia’s warming to him, his gaze tore away from his phone back to

Just two hours or less and Olivia would be here.
If there was one thing Ethan couldn’t do, it was to wait for Olivia to walk right through that door and into his office.
