Chapter 40
Olivia thought she had said those words in her subconscious mind and now aloud, but when she stared at the expression on Ethan’s face, it suddenly dawned on her that she had said then aloud,
She bit her lowers lips, waiting for answers but also watching him stare at her with a shocked expression on his face,
“I’m not doing this because….”
“What happened?” Ethan interjected almost immediately. Olivia took a deep breath in and drank from her coffee,
“Three of our partners who had also invested in the company wants to back out as soon as possible, and it’s impossible to keep going that way. I have no idea why they all suddenly had a change in heart, but doing this would cause major harm.”
“What do you want me to do, Olivia?” Ethan muttered as he picked up the coffee from the table without taking his gaze off her, but Olivia sighed deeply,
It was so difficult to ask for help, and she hated that he was still the one that she ran to when she had a problem. Ethan was the only one who could fix it,
“A major cooperation from you would be able to change their minds perhaps.” Olivia responded, and Ethan nodded his head,
“One billion dollars…” Bryan started, leaving Olivia completely confused as she stared at him, but she didn’t utter a word as she wanted him to complete whatever statement he was about to utter,
“I’m willing to invest one billion dollars to cover up for whatever loss you’re about to make from the withdrawal of other investors Olivia.” Ethan continued, and Olivia widened her eyes at him,
This couldn’t be real, could it? She fluttered her brows at him, the smile on his face making her understand that this would certainly not be for free,
“And for what in return?”
Ethan’s smile grew bigger, and he kept his coffee back on the table after sipping it. His fingers intertwined with each other as he kept them on the table,
“For a proposal.”
Olivia hated that he was keeping he hanging with his words, but she wanted to know more,
One billion dollars was a huge amount of money and if Ethan was willing to invest such, then she had to know the reason why,
“What proposal?”
“Just a month. Just a month to get to know you again, Olivia. You don’t have to push me away either. If after a month nothing changes, then I’ll accept the fact that you don’t love me and it’s over between us.”
She let out a deep breath without taking her gaze away, “I have a boyfriend, Ethan,” She muttered and that word triggered a little jealousy in Ethan but he was able to control it,
“I’m not asking you to cheat on your boyfriend with me. I just want to fix whatever I made you go through for the last six years after the divorce no matter how deep it is, and this is the first step.” He responded, but to Olivia, it was impossible to fix whatever hole or damage he had done to her six years ago. He had no idea what she had been through during this period and Olivia wasn’t ready to have him back into her life again,

“Two weeks.” She broke the silence between them, hoping Ethan wouldn’t figure out just how much she was desperate for his help, “I can only give you two weeks, Ethan, but whatever you do, nothing will ever change. I would never see you in the same light as I always did 6 years ago.”
To Ethan, maybe two weeks was more than enough to show Olivia just how sorry he was, and even if he couldn’t get her back, he had to try and make her understand that losing her was his greatest regret,
“Thank you…
“I’m not doing this for you or myself, but for the company Bryan and I have been working so hard to build,” Olivia uttered and as Ethan clamped his lips, he nodded his head,
A knock on the door made Ethan flutter his brows as he cleared his throat aloud, “I’ll ask my secretary to prepare a contract as soon as possible.”
“Come in.”
When the door opened, Ethan’s secretary walked in,
“Mr Andrew is here sir.” She announced, and when Ethan nodded his head, she walked out and shut the door,
“I’ll be on my way now. Thank you, Mr Fordham.” Olivia muttered as she rose to her feet, but when she raised her bag from the table, Ethan called her attention immediately, “My father wishes to see you, Olivia. This might be his last wish so could you do me the favor of visiting him just once.” Ethan uttered while Olivia’s grip on her bag tightened,
“Text me the date and the hospital, I’ll be there.” She responded and turned to leave. As soon as Olivia stepped out of the office, she leaned close to the door, taking a deep breath in and out so she could once again control her emotions.
It had been so hard controlling the rate at which her heart kept beating in there and Ethan didn’t help matters when he was willing to help her with a billion. About a minute later, she stood upright and began to walk away, heading out of the
company,
“It’s just two weeks, Olivia; get a grip of yourself.” She murmured as she got into the car and let a deep breath out,
These two weeks, she had no idea what would happen, but the best thing wasn’t to lose herself no matter what. “Your feelings for Ethan are long gone, Olivia, he means nothing to you now.” She murmured to herself again, igniting the engine, but snapped out of her thoughts when her phone rang,
It was Bryan calling,
“Hi babe.” She uttered on the phone after answering the call,
“Did you check the Internet?” Bryan questioned, but Olivia arched her brows as she heard him, “I just ended the meeting with Ethan, what’s wrong?”
“Check the Internet, Olivia, it’s huge,” Bryan responded and ended the call immediately. As soon as the call ended, Olivia felt her heart thumping so hard as she went online only to see the latest news,
Ethan had enlisted her hospital as one of his major investments and he wasn’t kidding about the one billion either,
In all their time together six years ago, this was the first time Ethan Fordham kept to his promise.
