Chapter 54
Shirley raised her arm to block the rays of the sun that shone on her through the window that Donald had left open.
As she tried to get down from the bed, she winced at the soreness between her thighs.
Donald had gone all night, getting even more energetic as he cummed whilst she just laid there and made all the sounds and movements
that she knew he loved.
She had no idea when he finally had enough of her before she had passed out after the fourth or fifth round; she had lost count after a while,
so she was not entirely sure.
Pushing back the covers, she swung her feet to the floor, taking great care not to worsen the soreness between her thighs with too many
movements.
As she stepped into the bathroom, she ran the water, increasing it to the highest temperature while sitting on the toilet seat and contemplating everything that had occurred the previous night.
A grimace formed on her face as she recalled all the stoppy kisses he laid on her.
It was not like Donald was not sexually pleasing, actually, he was, and she was certain many other women would have that view too, after all, he was never the faithful husband to her while they were married. But for some reason, he did not make her feel anything because the man that she wanted to make her feel those things did not even give her a second glance.
Shirley lowered herself into the tub. The water was scalding hot, but it was the perfect temperature for her.
She began scrubbing her body with so much vigour, hoping she could remove the memory of Donald’s touches.
She remained in the bath for almost thirty minutes till her body was pruny, and then she got up and wrapped a robe around her body.
Putting on a yellow sundress and blowing her hair, she applied lip gloss, not bothering to do anything else as her mind was too occupied to go through all the motions of dressing.
When Shirley got out of the room, She alighted the stairs, bumping into Zoey.
“So..so…sorry ma’am” Zoey blurted out nervously.
Shirley whipped her head towards Zoey, her eyes blazing with anger. The frustration and the feeling of helplessness from last night turned
into anger.
“Are you blind or something? You just walk around like you own the house, and my husband, right? Can you not see where you are going?!” This life was so familiar and the fact that she had even called Donald her husband brought back memories that she had managed to bury at
the back of her mind.
“It was a mistake………… I am sorry, I did not mean it.” Zoey stuttered nervously, fear written all over her face as she clasped her palm together. When Shirley stared down, she knew it was because of fear because that was how Zoey always kept her hands whenever she was scared of something
“You never mean anything, are you dense or just plain stupid?” Shirley exclaimed in anger
“Mama,” A little voice called out, and that was when Shirley looked down to see her daughter, Kendra, pulling at the hem of Joey’s gown and calling her mama
“Ken.. Kendra” Shirley stuttered, tears forming in her eyes.

“Mummy, who is this woman and why is she shouting at you?” Kendra asked Zoey Innocently
“No, no, she is not your Mama, I am your Mama.” Shirley exclaimed desperately and reached out for Kendra’s arm.
Almost immediately, Kendra pulled back her hand, fear and confusion written on her face.
“Mama.” She screamed, hiding behind Zoey while holding tightly to her gown.
“Kendra, come here, don’t be scared honey.” Zoey said softly as she lifted Kendra into her arms.
Shirley could see the love written on Zoey’s face, and despite the bitter feeling that tasted like bile at the back of her throat, she was happy that her daughter had gotten love, even if it was not that of her mother’s
“I am sorry, I have been trying to get her to break the habit, but Kendra just wouldn’t. Don’t think I tried to take your place, Ms. Zoey whispered nervously as she held Kendra.
“Kendra, meet your Mom.“Zoey said, looking at Kendra’s face, which scrunched up
in
confusion.
“No! You are my mummy, she is not my mommy.” Kendra said to Zoey, her eyes avoiding Shirley in fear.
If a heart could break, that was the moment Shirley’s heart broke into a thousand pieces all at once. No doubt she loved Kendra so much, but she just had to leave for her own happiness. Now, this was a moment of regret, Pure Regret filled Shirley’s eyes, making her wish she had found a way to run along with Kendra
It shattered into little shards that could not be picked up.
Tears rolled down Shirley’s face uncontrollably; it took effort on Shirley’s part to rein in the sibs threatening to crack through her.
A part of her knew that this would happen, but it becoming a reality hurt more than she could ever imagine it could.
The pain of one’s child not recognising that person was the worst feeling in the world, and it broke Shirley in more than a thousand ways
Kendra wriggled out of Zoey’s arms and ran off, wanting to avoid the scary looking woman claiming scarier than her dad, and Zoey was the only person she could trust.
to be her mother. To her, she was more
“I am..I am sorry.”
Zoey stuttered, but at that point, Shirley could barely even hear anything she was saying as she walked away like a robot, tears still rolling down her face.
When she closed the door of her room behind her, she finally let
herself cry aloud, she let all the pain pour out.
Shirley threw the flower vase by the table at the mirror, breaking it into tiny pieces. She pushed everything on the dresser to the floor and collapsed on it in tears.
All Shirley could think was everything being Donald’s fault that her daughter did not know her. It was all his fault that her daughter was referring to someone else as her mother, and all She could feel was anger, red blazing anger that blinded her.
She did not even feel the pain from the cut on her hand that had been caused by the shard of mirror on the floor. Instead, all she could think of was getting back at Donald for everything he had done.
At that point, Shirley knew that she had to do anything, whatsoever in her power to get her children and escape from Donald’s clutches. She was playing with fire, deceiving Donald again, but Ethan’s wealth would be her only escape from the torment eating her deep. From Donald.
