Chapter 72
Bryan sat in his study nursing a glass of bourbon. The decanter in front of him that was half filled some minutes ago was now empty. In the ashtray beside him, the recently smothered cigarette still lay
He swirled the glass of bourbon in his hand, taking a sip of the contents of the glass.
It had been two hours since Olivia had said she was on her way home but was yet to arrive
He had received a text from her saying that she had an emergency at the hospital and true enough, there had been a huge car crash involving over ten people and they had all been rushed to the hospital
His victory over Ethan by his father’s death had made him relaxed and sloppy; he could not let that happen, and now it seemed he had to do everything by himself these days for the work to get done. It was highly infuriating
Earlier when he had rushed to the hospital to see Olivia, he had been happy that she had been hurt, she needed to pay a price for her actions and a part of him thought that that was the perfect price to pay
She and her lover were in a car accident, on his way there he had contacted a news outlet to inform them that Ethan and Olivia had been found together in a car fleeing
Unfortunately, his plans came to naught when he found out that the woman in the car was not Olivia at the end of it all, it was Shirley
That even confused him the more, why on earth was Shirley with Ethan in the car
No matter how he tried to look at it, there was only one way and that way worked for him
Was that why Olivia had brought Noah back? She had been in a foul mood, but he had decided not to ask her what had happened.
It seemed like Ethan was no longer getting divorced from Shirley
He did not care why or care to know what the hell was going on between Ethan and Shirley, he did not want to know what she was holding over the mighty Ethan either, all he cared about was that it was working in his favor
If Ethan pushed Olivia away, he would be there to comfort her as usual, ready to make her feel wanted and loved
He had no idea why he felt bothered by their phone call some hours ago. It was not possible that Olivia had found out about anything, she was too stupid to realize anything.
She was too stupid to realize that everything he had told her was a lie, too stupid to realize that he hated kids and that with every day that passed, he felt like getting rid of Ethan’s child.
He just had to endure it, push her hand for them to get married as soon as possible so he could kill her off and take custody of her child, Ethan’s heir
Killing Ethan was going to be very easy, being named as Noah’s guardian; if anything were to happen to Noah, everything belonged
to him.
He would finally get revenge for everything and he would be the richest man in the country
It was bigger than that, suffering through this pretense was worth getting to the actual goal, it was so worth it.

“Suction” Olivia called out as she tried to stop the bleeding.
There was a rod still embedded in the man’s stomach
“The ultrasound is clear; it’s not penetrating any vital organs. A quick pull should do it” One of the doctors on the gurney said
“Okay, get ready, once I pull this out, we are going to have a massive hemorrhage. We would need to stop the bleeding. Get me B- negative blood bags, as many as you can find. Hang this for now and also an IV,” Olivia instructed
“Iam pulling it out now” She reached for the rod lodged into the man’s abdomen and tanked it out smoothly
Blood began to sputter and splash everywhere
“Gauze!” She was handed a gauze which she used to apply pressure on the hole
Suddenly, the beeping noise on the heart monitor increased to a fast beeping sound.
“His blood pressure has increased. EKG activity is abnormal. We need to stop the bleeding now or we might lose him“. The doctor said
“More gauze and methylated spirit to wash it. We have to act fast, we only have two minutes or he will go into shock” Olivia ordered, moving as fast as possible
“Hang a second bag of blood,” She said as she poured the methylated spirit into the hole
“Suction” She washed the hole that the rod was lodged in, and used the gauze to dab up more blood
“Give me the absorbable suture, we need to have him sutured now, or he is going to die!” Olivia said
She began suturing the hole, once as quickly as possible
Her hands were stained with blood, her face and her hair but her fingers were steady
The doctors and the nurses stared in awe, the ones who had not worked with her before had heard about how good she was but seeing it by themselves was a different thing
“Turn him over, I need to get back”
Within ten minutes she was done suturing and the bleeding stopped
“The blood pressure has reduced, and his EKG activity is back to normal; his vitals are also fine.” The doctor said with a smile and Olivia heaved a sigh of relief
She had gambled that and luckily, she had won.
“Administer some antibiotics to the patient after ten minutes and give him a saline flush, remove the second bag of blood but remember to keep a very close eye on him, we cannot afford for anything to go wrong right now, I need to get all this blood off me” She said as she pulled off her gloves and tossed it into the dustbin.
“Uhm, Doctor Olivia, there is an emergency.” A nurse ran in, all frazzled; Olivia followed her out, the blood on her body forgotten.
