Chapter 3 Vivian Bennett Has Really Lost Her Mind
For a moment, I even doubted my own ears.
I truly thought that, in this new life, she would throw everything away and chase after a life of luxury with
abandon.
But no, she was still so selfish. To save herself, she chose to sacrifice me.
And with that one sentence, the last shred of our friendship disappeared forever.
I looked at her on the screen and sneered, “Vivian, do you really think that’s possible?”
She panicked, the redness on her face deepening: “Sophie, how can you be so ungrateful? If you marry Mark
Hernandez for me, you get a husband for free, and I can pursue the life I want. My family won’t have to fight with the Hernandez family over my not wanting to marry. How perfect would that be?”
???
“Vivian Bennett, are you out of your mind?”
“Sophie, why are you so stubborn?!” She raised her voice in frustration, “Look, you’ve never even dated anyone, and yeah, Mark Hernandez is a bit dull and boring, but he’s a good guy. You’re quiet and reserved, so you two would be perfect together. Just do this for me, okay? Please!”
I looked at her face and felt a strange sense of unfamiliarity for the first time.
In my previous life, I thought her obsession and madness were due to the pressure she put on herself, which caused her depression. That’s why, in a fit of depression, she ended up pushing me off a building.
But now, I realized it wasn’t like that.
From the things she said without thinking, I could see that she had always been this way.
Her malice had just never had the right opportunity to surface before.
Now, the opportunity had arrived, and so she revealed her true nature.
I didn’t want to argue with her.
Because I knew, no matter what I said, it would always be wrong in her eyes.
Even if I agreed to help, once she faced difficulties with Chadwick Carter, she’d come back to cry to me,
calling me a homewrecker.
If I refused, she’d call me a stubborn, inflexible idiot anyway..
But why should I take the fall for her?

She needed to pay the price for her own choices.
I reached for the phone to end the video call. “I’m tired, I’m hanging up.”
She pointed at me, furious: “Oh, that’s just great, Sophie! Really mature!”
I turned off the screen.
Lying in bed, I couldn’t sleep.
I opened my social media and saw that Vivian Bennett had posted something at midnight.
The caption read: “I, Vivian Bennett, don’t marry just anyone.”
Below it was a comment from Mark Hernandez: “Don’t worry, honey. I’ll give you a grand wedding, trust
me.”
Vivian Bennett didn’t respond to his comment.
Instead, Mark Hernandez posted a concept photo of their wedding venue: “Looking forward to it!”
Since we went to the same university, we had many mutual friends.
A lot of people liked and commented, congratulating him on his upcoming wedding.
I sighed. After tonight, tomorrow would bring heartbreak to two families.
As expected, I was woken up by my mother knocking on the door the next morning.
I opened the door, and my mom was about to cry. “Sophie, have you seen Vivian Bennett?”
I quickly asked, “What’s wrong, Mom?”
My mom stepped back, and I saw Vivian Bennett’s anxious parents sitting in the living room.
Vivian Bennett’s mother handed me a piece of paper. I took it, and it had Vivian Bennett’s message on it.
“Mom and Dad, I don’t love Mark Hernandez. I don’t want to get married anymore. I have new plans for my life. Please let Sophie replace me and marry him. After all, she’s your goddaughter. This way, everyone wins. Don’t look for me; I’ll come back later.”
Reading the note made my whole body shake with anger.
I had suspected that Vivian Bennett would talk to her parents about calling off the wedding.
I thought her parents would try to convince her, and when that failed, they would come to me and Mark Hernandez’s family to discuss things.
And she turned the blame on me!
I honestly didn’t know how to describe my feelings at that moment.
“Call her!”
Vivian Bennett’s mother shook her head, crying. “I’ve tried calling, but it says the line is unavailable. And
her room has been disturbed. Her suitcase is gone.”
“She… how could she do this? Sophie, what should we do now? The invitations have already been sent out,
the Wedding Favors have been wrapped, and the Hernandez family is already preparing for the wedding. How could this happen so close to the wedding?”
Vivian Bennett’s father was too angry to speak.
The worst part was how despicable Vivian Bennett had become. She even urged her parents to have me take
her place at the altar.
I had already been reborn.
In my previous life, neither of her parents knew about the animosity between Vivian Bennett and me.
I still wanted to test her parents’ opinion, so I asked, “What did she say? That I should marry into the
Hernandez family for her?”
Vivian Bennett’s mother froze the moment she heard this.
Then she wiped her tears and looked at me.
My heart skipped a beat. Could she be thinking the same thing as her daughter and want me to replace her at
the altar?
