Chapter 4 She Called Me Jealous of Her Happiness

As my heart pounded in my chest, I waited for Vivian Bennett’s mother to speak.

She finally opened her mouth, her tone filled with disgust toward her daughter:

“How did I raise such an ungrateful child? She made her own mistakes, so why should others help her pay

the price?”

“Sophie, don’t worry. I’m not that kind of person. And besides, is anyone blind? You two are completely different people. How could we just switch one for the other? If this absurd scandal got out, what would people think of us? How will we face the world?”

I sighed in relief.

Thankfully, Vivian Bennett’s mother wasn’t that kind of person.

My mom added, “Yes, though we do consider Vivian family, this request is a bit much!”

I had already prepared myself for the possibility that if both our families tried to sacrifice me, I wouldn’t

return to this home.

But right now, they were on my side. I felt reassured and walked over to hug Vivian Bennett’s mother. “Don’t worry, Godmother. Calm down. where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

Upon hearing that, she became emotional again.

“Sophie, is she in some kind of trouble? Do you know anything about this?”

Of course, I knew. She couldn’t wait to be someone’s sugar baby.

But I didn’t say anything. After all, I had been reborn. I didn’t want them to worry.

So I shook my head. “No, I don’t know.”

“Never mind, we must answer for this.. We need to discuss this with the other family.” Vivian Bennett’s father spoke up from the sofa. “One way or another, this matter must be settled.”

So, Vivian Bennett’s parents went to Mark Hernandez’s house to apologize in person,

The dowry, the wedding gifts, and everything that had been prepared were all returned.

That day, Mark Hernandez asked me, “Do you know where Vivian Bennett went?”

I shook my head.

He chuckled bitterly. “I’m such a fool. She posted on social media saying she didn’t want to marry just anyone, but now I understand what she meant. I’d spent so long planning our wedding.”

I didn’t know how to comfort him. I could only tell him to look ahead.

Then, his parents suddenly said, “The wedding has been prepared to this extent. If she doesn’t want to marry, someone else will.”

I didn’t understand what they meant.

They called a girl into the room.

I recognized her. It was Beth White, Mark Hernandez’s classmate and also his neighbor.

It seemed that Beth White had always liked Mark Hernandez, but since he had Vivian Bennett, he had turned her down.

The two had never crossed any boundaries.

Now, Beth White looked at Mark Hernandez with loving eyes and volunteered, “I’ll marry you.”

And just like that, Mark Hernandez didn’t wait around for Vivian Bennett. The wedding continued as planned, only the bride had changed.

I didn’t know what to say.

Mark Hernandez smiled, “Life has to go on. She said she’d wait for me to slowly fall in love with her. After all, she’s done so much for me, so I’m willing to give it a try.”

I could only wish them well.

I sighed.

It turns out that in this world, not everyone will wait for someone.

Life went on as usual.

But after the wedding, I suddenly saw Vivian Bennett’s post on social media.

She had already flown to the Maldives with Chadwick Carter.

The photos on her feed were all meticulously edited.

She intentionally showed off the logo on her accessories, the luxury hotel restaurant in the background, and images where a man’s presence was vaguely visible.

Every post screamed, “Look how fucking fabulous I am.”

I didn’t know if she had blocked others, but I still saw a comment from a mutual friend: “Did you and Mark Hernandez both cheat?”

She didn’t ronk:

But I guessed, she must have seen Mark Hernandez marry someone else and deliberately posted these pictures to show off.

What she meant was, “I’m doing even better without you.”

Sure enough, I soon received a message from her: “Mark Hernandez married that woman who’s nothing compared to me? He really is desperate. I’ve really misjudged him. And that woman, how shameless! She’s willing to marry wearing my wedding dress.”

I pretended not to see it and didn’t respond.

The girl wasn’t as ugly as she said, nor was she as pitiful as she painted her.

Besides, she had never considered that if she hadn’t let everyone down, this wouldn’t have happened.

Soon, she did something else.

She never showed up at the assigned school-just ghosted her teaching contract without a trace.

I didn’t know about this until her mother called me.

“What could she possibly be thinking??”

At that time, I was in the lab working on research. So, I took screenshots of the social media posts she’d

made and sent them to her mother.

After a long pause, she shakily asked, “Sophie, tell me honestly, is Vivian becoming someone’s kept woman?”

“Godmother, what do you think?”

She didn’t answer, but her father’s voice came through, furious: “What a disgrace! I won’t recognize this daughter anymore!”

I continued organizing the lab equipment, not responding.

Compared to constantly worrying about Vivian Bennett’s life, I wanted to focus on my research.

In my previous life, a biological patent I was working on was about to be released, but Vivian Bennett ruined

This time, I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity and complete my research ahead of time,

But I never expected to see Vivian Bennett in the lab.

And she seemed to be waiting for me.

I didn’t understand why she was looking for me.

She was decked out in gold and silver, wearing expensive jewelry, and her complexion was healthier and rosier-she clearly had made an effort with her appearance.

When she saw me come out, she waved at me: “Sophie!”

Some classmates asked me, “Is she your friend? She’s so pretty!”

Hearing the compliments, she practically glowed with satisfaction. She walked over and affectionately took my hand. “It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other. Let me take you out for dinner.”

I took a step back.

Her heavily made-up appearance now overlapped with the hysterical version of her from last life.

I felt a sharp sense of dissonance.

It was too much of a contrast.

Noticing my coldness, Vivian Bennett was upset: “What’s wrong with you? What kind of look is that?”

I didn’t want to talk to her anymore. I replied flatly, “I have an experiment to focus on. I don’t have time.

You should leave.”

But she wouldn’t give up and blocked me: “Sophie, are you jealous of how well I’m doing?”

I paused for a moment.

Jealous?

Jealous that she was being bankrolled by some rich guy?

Vivian Bennett deliberately showed off her handbag, side-eyeing me: “Sophie, sometimes people need to broaden their horizons. I never imagined life could be lived like this.”

Lived how?

By stacking fake prosperity with money?

Or by trading her body and soul for fleeting pleasure?

I turned to look at her: “Have you contacted your parents? Do they know what you’re doing?”

Those words left Vivian Bennett speechless.

As I was about to turn around, she angrily grabbed my arm: “Sophie, did you blab about me? God, how old are you, and you’re still tattling like a grade-schooler? Since childhood, you’ve always been jealous that I’m better looking and more capable than you, that everyone in the neighborhood liked me more, so now you’re desperate to turn them against me, is that it? My parents won’t even pick up my calls–tell me you didn’t

orchestrate this!”
