Chapter 7 She Called Him Desperate
The slap echoed through the room, and suddenly, the entire house fell into a deathly silence.
After a long pause, Vivian Bennett snapped out of it and pointed at her parents:
“Fine! Fine! You hit me! I’m completely severing ties with this family today! If you prefer Sophie over me, fine! I’ll show you who ends up better! And when you’re old and begging for my help? Not a fucking chance.”
She was practically screaming, her voice torn with anguish.
“Vivian Bennett! If you’ve come back to end things with that man, I will consider it as you getting back on the right track, and we’ll forgive you, your father and I…”
Before her mother could finish, Vivian Bennett interrupted her:
“I don’t want your cheap love! You can keep your family if you like Sophie more! You pick!”
I didn’t understand. What did any of this have to do with me?
I couldn’t understand why she suddenly hated me so much.
But then I thought, perhaps she had always been like this. Since childhood, she had always been the first to choose anything for herself.
In comparison to me, once she got results that seemed better, she thought she was superior to me.
I was just her little follower.
Today, she wanted her parents to make a choice because, yesterday, when she thought she was about to step into the upper elite, I unexpectedly showed up and sabotaged that moment.
And her parents hadn’t approved of it.
That’s when she started spiraling into madness and fury.
“You want to leave? Then leave,” Vivian Bennett’s father said, sitting on the couch, his face grim. “This family won’t collapse without you. Your mom and I have spoiled you all these years because we wanted you to be able to stand strong, not to be deceived by a sugar-coated promise. But now, you’re still this stubborn and blaming those who care about you. You’ve broken everyone’s heart.”
“You’re an adult now. If you want to cut ties, then do it. It’s your choice.”
Vivian Bennett was momentarily stunned by her father’s words. When she finally came to her senses, she tried to speak, but the doorbell rang.
Vivian’s mother opened the door, and it was Mark Hernandez and Beth White, arriving early for a holiday
visit.

The two of them walked in hand-in-hand, with Beth White gazing at Mark Hernandez lovingly.
And Mark Hernandez’s eyes had traces of tenderness as well.
Seeing this, I didn’t know what Vivian Bennett was thinking.
But from her face, which looked like she’d eaten something foul, I could guess she wasn’t feeling well at all.
So, instead of leaving, she stayed, her eyes glued to Mark Hernandez.
Mark Hernandez and Beth White hadn’t expected to see Vivian Bennett again.
For a moment, no one knew what to say.
Until my mom spoke up: “Oh, Mark, you’ve brought your wife here. Come in.”
My mom nudged Vivian Bennett’s mother and walked over to greet them.
Although the whole issue of calling off the engagement had caused some discomfort, the Hernandez family wasn’t the petty type to hold grudges.
From the fact that when Vivian Bennett didn’t get pregnant in last life, they calmly said it was okay, showing their open-mindedness and understanding.
So, when Mark Hernandez married, both our families attended.
On holidays, Mark Hernandez would also bring Beth White to Vivian Bennett’s family to deliver gifts.
It wasn’t because he couldn’t let go of Vivian Bennett, but because he had let go.
Beth White was a nice person, never complaining, always accompanying Mark Hernandez.
And she had secured a stable government job, so the two spent a lot of time together. Over time, their relationship deepened.
So, when Mark Hernandez saw Vivian Bennett, he acted as though he hadn’t seen her.
Hand in hand with Beth White, they walked into the house, placing their things on the table.
Vivian Bennett spoke up: “Oh, what a wind blew you two here.”
Mark Hernandez ignored her, while Beth White blushed slightly. I walked over to hold her hand in comfort.
Seeing that no one responded to her, Vivian Bennett got even bolder: “Mark, after I broke up with you, you settled for someone like this? How desperate are you? Anyone will do for you. Everyone’s talking about consumption downgrade, but you’ve gone straight to rock bottom. And your wife-she’s wearing my wedding dress, so fat, she definitely couldn’t fit into it. Didn’t your relatives laugh at you?”
Beth White’s face turned red. Her personality was shy and introverted, and she didn’t have Vivian Bennett’s

sharp tongue. She just pressed her lips together and looked at Mark Hernandez.
Mark Hernandez directly pulled Beth White into an embrace and looked at Vivian Bennett: “What gives you the right to talk down on others? When we were preparing for the wedding, you were cheating on me with other men. You didn’t have the decency to take responsibility and just disappeared, leaving both families waiting for you. What kind of psycho does that? Honestly, your prefrontal cortex must be underdeveloped,
with zero cerebellum to boot!”
“And this act? Mocking my wife because you’re still convinced you’re some irresistible goddess? That I’d grovel waiting for scraps of your attention? Newsflash, Vivian-karma’s a bitch, and so are gold-diggers. I’ll pass.”
“Oh, and Beth’s dress? Custom-made. Yours got returned the day you vanished.”
Mark Hernandez said all this in one breath, and I was a bit surprised.
He wasn’t usually this articulate.
It was clear he was really angry.
Of course, Vivian Bennett was surprised too. She stood frozen for a moment.
In her mind, Mark Hernandez had always been someone who adored her, who spoiled her excessively.
She never expected that now, he would stand up for another woman and criticize her.
Vivian Bennett’s face turned pale, and her lips trembled: “Mark, you’ve moved on awfully fast, haven’t you? You’ve been with her all along behind my back? So you were the one cheating, you bastard!”
“Hmph, Vivian Bennett, do you really need me to spell it out for you?” Mark Hernandez pulled out his phone, tapped a few times, and then shoved the photos in Vivian Bennett’s face: “The day before you ran off, you posted a message saying you wouldn’t marry anyone. I thought you weren’t happy with the wedding plans, so I spent the night negotiating with the planning company. But what were you doing? You were in another man’s arms in the dance hall, undressed, dancing provocatively. Do you want me to explain what happened after?”
“Y-You… how do you know?”
“Truth has a way of coming out. I’ve seen the photos. Want to see them?”
“On the day you left, your parents and Sophie were at home packing Wedding Favors. My parents were making calls and sending invitations. I was organizing the wedding details. And what were you doing? You threw yourself into another man’s arms! I didn’t want to bring this up, but now you’ve returned after disappearing for so long and have the audacity to accuse everyone. You really think you’re in the right?”
I was shocked. Mark Hernandez actually had those photos from that night!

He hadn’t said anything about it, not even when people assumed he had cheated, but now he suddenly brought out evidence. It was clear that Vivian Bennett had pushed him too far.
Vivian Bennett turned pale, then suddenly laughed and spoke:
“Look who’s talking! You don’t have to say anything. You’ve found yourself a woman like her, flaunting it.
My boyfriend is Chadwick Carter, the heir to an old-money dynasty. He could buy your entire existence with
pocket change.”
Before Mark Hernandez could respond, Beth White suddenly asked in a soft voice: “Do you think he’ll marry
you?”
