Chapter 37
Jimmy and Jessie led Megan back to her personal waiting room and helped her sit down on a chair.
“Get some warm water for Elena, Jessie,” Jimmy ordered with the intention to send her away.
Soon, Jimmy and Megan were the only ones left in the waiting room. However, there were still recording devices in the room. On top of that, Jimmy was Megan’s boss, so there wouldn’t be any nasty rumors
even if they were alone in the same room.
“What was Alyssa talking about earlier? I didn’t understand what she was saying,” Jimmy asked.
Megan glanced at the recording device that was nearby before she grabbed her phone. Using her long coat to block the screen, she typed out a message before showing it to Jimmy.
“I think that Alyssa is assuming that I’m your kept woman. She approached me of her own accord and told me that I have an obstacle blocking my path from becoming your official girlfriend.”
Jimmy looked utterly confused after he read the message. It was true that he wanted to take care of Megan, but he didn’t dare bring the topic up in front of her when it seemed that she didn’t share the same
sentiment.
In fact, based on Megan’s usual behavior, she would most likely break off their partnership if she ever learned that he harbored such thoughts in his heart.
“Think about what you may have done to make her misunderstand,” Megan asked aloud.
Jimmy mulled over his thoughts before he was suddenly struck with a realization. He was about to voice out his thoughts when Megan tapped him.
Pulling his phone out of his pocket, Jimmy also used his coat to cover his screen when he typed out his
explanation.
“You were absent for the rehearsal that took place a few days ago, so I gave the higher–ups your medical report. The contents of the report were legitimate, but I erased the name and changed the date to ten days ago. I’m guessing that she saw the report and assumed that the child you were carrying was mine.”
Megan nodded. His explanation made sense. She looked at the screen that was still showing the live broadcast. Only the sounds of the contestant’s performance reverberated around the room.
Jimmy’s eyes flashed lightly. He paused for a moment before asking, “Did you know that he’s here?”
Megan hummed in acknowledgement, looking completely disinterested.
Jimmy opened his mouth, looking like he had something to say. In the end, he closed his mouth and remained quiet.
Howard sat in the backseat of the Bentley as it cruised steadily along the road. As usual, he attended to

the business that required his attention with the tablet he had brought along with him.
When he coincidentally lifted his head and saw the roses blooming among the greenery outside the window, he couldn’t help but think about the masked woman on the stage. She was bright, beautiful and overflowing with talent.
In the memories of his youth, there was only one person who matched his description of the masked
woman.
Zander was seated in the front passenger seat. When he noticed the dazed look in Howard’s eyes as he stared out the window, he smiled and asked, “Did Ms. Hardin perform well at the live studio just now, Mr.
Larson?”
Howard hummed in response, but kept his eyes trained on the scenery outside.
“As expected!” Zander scrolled through his own tablet until he found what he was looking for. “All the netizens are talking about how you never show up for this type of program, Mr. Larson. You made an exception for Ms. Hardin, so everyone-”
Zander continued to chatter away, though Howard had stopped paying attention some time ago. It wasn’t that he didn’t watch any entertainment programs. He only watched the ones that Megan was featured in. Larson Group had never planned to dip their toes into the entertainment industry, but Howard had established the relevant departments out of his own selfishness. It was just that Megan had already signed with Jimmy’s Ferrell Entertainment at the time.
Megan had learned many different instruments since she was a child. She dabbled with the piano, violin, guitar, and others. She even became an expert on some of them. Howard would stand on the balcony often and secretly observe the happy Stafford family in the past.
He was calm as the car drove past a huge patch of red roses.
He remembered how flamboyant Megan was when she was younger. Perhaps she was influenced by Olivia, but she loved wearing red dresses.
That year, she had stood among the falling leaves as she played the violin, the wind sweeping through her dark and wavy hair. With the red maple leaves fluttering to the ground around her, she had stolen the hearts of countless young men.
