Selena put the remote down and eyed Megan confusedly. “Can’t you just ask Jimmy for the recording? If
I’m not mistaken, Ferrell Entertainment was one of the sponsors.”
Megan had mentioned this to Jimmy on the way to the hospital. However, that had greatly pissed him off.
“I went looking for the video and ended up giving the employees a good talking to. Howard had threatened them, and Brandon had interfered as well! How vile!”
Jimmy punched the steering wheel and complained, “Brandon even went running to Edward and told him I was paying for women! He said I was going to drag the Ferrells into conflict with the Larsons for a woman. That got me into huge trouble.”
Either way, Jimmy’s brother, Brandon Ferrell, had meddled. He placed obstacles in Jimmy’s way at every turn. Jimmy had to do things secretly or plan an ambush. If not, Brandon would make his life hell.
After Jimmy sent Megan to the hospital, he implored her to relax. All of this was temporary. After all, Ferrell Entertainment was under his control. Others couldn’t risk overreaching his authority.
He just needed some time.
As a result, when Megan found out that someone might’ve saved a recording of the performance, she wanted to acquire it immediately.
She explained this to Selena, who immediately went to contact Helen.
Time passed in the blink of an eye. Before they knew it, the next day had dawned.
After the storm, the smell of petrichor was fresh in the air.
It had stopped raining, and Selena headed to work after bringing Megan breakfast.
When someone knocked on the door to her hospital room, Megan thought it was Selena, who had obtained the recording. However, when she looked up, it was the police.
Cynthia Lynch, the policewoman, had come with another policeman. It was probably her coworker.
“Our apologies for disturbing,” said Cynthia.
Megan tried to sit up, but Cynthia asked her to remain as she was.
“After recording your statement, there have been a few developments in the case, so we wanted to ask you a few questions.”
Megan was very cooperative.
“We’ve found the black Santana that ran you over. It was a stolen car. The driver was dressed to be as

covert as possible. The surveillance cameras only captured his camouflaged figure. We couldn’t get a glimpse of his face.
“He displayed strong counter–surveillance awareness and didn’t leave any traces behind. He even knew to evade the surveillance cameras.
“This man was clearly a professional.”
Cynthia paused before continuing, “We aren’t ruling out the possibility that he might be an assassin. Think about whether you’ve pissed anyone off.”
An assassin?
Thoughts raced through Megan’s head as she observed Cynthia’s grim expression.
This was the first time someone had directly tried to murder her. As the timing was extremely unique, it definitely had something to do with recent events.
The first event Megan considered was her divorce with Howard. If it was because of that, she had two suspects in mind–Howard and Alyssa.
The next possible trigger would be the change in information publicly available about Megan.
As the countdown to Alyssa’s death had been going viral, people were digging up dirt about Megan, Howard’s original partner.
Her identity as part of the Stafford family could easily be discovered.
Back then, it was Howard who’d stepped forward to protect Megan and Olivia. With how Howard and Alyssa’s relationship was being pandered, her opponents probably thought he would no longer protect her.
In addition, as Howard had personally conducted the restructuring of Larson Group, he had many enemies.

If anything, Blair was one of them. He was the Head of Procurement who was fired by Howard for some unknown reason back when they’d just gotten married. The whole situation had ended unhappily for both parties.
