Megan was set on winning “Celestial Voice“. She knew she had to attend the charity gala.
Jimmy hesitated, shifting uncomfortably. “Well… This matter is a little complicated.”
Megan looked at him questioningly.
Jimmy scratched his head and explained, “My grandfather thinks I like you. He’s going to be there too, so…
She smiled. “Then, you’ll have to help me prepare a gift for him. Nothing flashy, but respectful.”
“How can you smile at a time like this?” he exclaimed.
He could handle the rest of the family. Even his eldest and second–eldest brothers were no more than a nuisance. His father was easier still, a man content to idle his life away. But his grandfather, Edward, was ‘a ruthless man who built Ferrell Group from the ground up.
Megan knew this very well.
The Ferrell family was one of the Big Three in Acreport.
Edward had two daughters and two sons. The eldest son died before he had a chance to have a family.
Jimmy’s father was the second son, but he lacked ability and busied himself with women and children instead. Over the years, he married several times, fathering three sons with three different women.
Jimmy’s mother, the last wife, entered the family late and gave birth to him even later. When Edward finally declared enough was enough, Jimmy’s father stopped his reckless ways. Had he not, Jimmy might have had more half–brothers by now.
Though Jimmy’s aunts and sisters played their parts in family affairs, the real control of Ferrell Group would ultimately fall to one of Edward’s three grandsons.
Megan’s ambitions in “Celestial Voice” had already tied her fate to Ferrell Entertainment, binding her to Jimmy’s side. He had done much for her, and she knew it was time to return the favor. This was her battle to fight.
Jimmy understood her resolve and didn’t argue. “I’ll take care of the dress and the gift and pick you up tomorrow.” Then, after a brief pause, he added firmly, “When I kick those two aside in the company, Ferrell Group will have a place for you, too.”
Megan neither accepted nor refused, simply telling him to prepare.
“Oh, the legal department has delivered the legal letter for ‘Micro Love.“”
With that, he left in a rush. Megan nodded to herself. The legal letter was also a test. She wanted to see how Alyssa would react. Something about Alyssa’s behavior had always struck her as odd.

That night, Alyssa stood before her wardrobe, carefully selecting a gown for tomorrow’s gala, while Lily Briggs, her caretaker from Cynorth, hovered nearby.
“Ms. Hardin, the live–stream scandal is still all over the news. Isn’t it risky to attend the charity gala so soon? According to your medical records, your body can’t handle this much stress,” Lily said with concern.
Alyssa glared at her. “Then, you’ll just have to find a way to make this lie work.”
Lily wanted to protest, then thought better of it.
Alyssa turned back to the mirror, her eyes sharp with resentment. “With the heat my name carries right now, and with my connection to Howard, how could Acreport’s elites host a gala and not invite me? What were they thinking?
“But it doesn’t matter. I’ll be there. I’ll walk in as Howard’s date, right by his side!”
She smirked and practiced a fragile smile in the mirror.
“I’ll even make a big fuss. It’s going to drive Megan mad! Imagine her face when she sees me by Howard’s side when it should’ve been her. She’s going to be so heartbroken. I hope she leaves Acreport!” She chuckled with satisfaction.
Just then, the email alert chimed. Alyssa frowned, crossed the room, and clicked it open.
It was a legal letter for “Micro Love“, demanding she stop her infringement immediately. Lilly’s face turned pale. “Ms. Hardin, what are we going to do?”
