Chapter 15

The weight of his words lingered in the air, suffocating and cruel. My fingers clenched tightly against the fabric of my dress, nails digging into my palms as I fought the urge to snap back. But I couldn’t just swallow his hard words. My pride wouldn’t let me. Before I could stop myself, my tongue betrayed me, rolling out the words I hadn’t planned.

“With due respect, Alpha Hades, I didn’t mean to lie. You can’t judge me because of that.”

The silence that followed was deafening. Hades’ piercing blue eyes narrowed at me, his gaze darkening with something between shock and disdain. My stomach sank, a wave of regret washing over me. I wanted to take it back, to erase the defiance that had slipped out, but it was too late. The words hung in the air like a challenge.

To my surprise, Caiden’s voice cut through the tension, smooth and demanding. “Yes, give her a pass.”

I glanced at him, my lips twitching as I held back an appreciative smile. His support was unexpected but comforting. His amber eyes softened briefly as he looked at me, and for a fleeting moment, I felt a connection-a silent understanding that he was on my side, even if I barely knew him.

Across from me, Aeson’s gaze was sharp and assessing. His expression shifted, a flicker of something unreadable passing over his face as though he thought I’d just dug a trap for myself. His scrutiny made me waver, caught between falling to my knees to apologize or standing my ground. But pride kept me rooted. I couldn’t back down-not when Hades had already tried to belittle me.

“So,” Aeson finally said, his tone even but probing, “how have you been doing in Misty Violet Pack?”

“Fine,” I replied quickly, keeping my voice steady. But as soon as the word left my mouth, I caught Caiden’s inquisitive eyes on me, silently urging me to elaborate. The weight of his gaze was unrelenting, and before I knew it, I added, “I live with my parents there. Alpha Pedro… well, he’s not the easiest leader, but he doesn’t unleash his beast mode all the time.”

Caiden tilted his head, his brows drawing together in a show of sympathy. “I guess it must be hard for you with such a nut of an alpha,” he said emphatically.

His casual remark made my lips part, ready to respond, but the sudden intensity of their collective stares stopped me in my tracks. I hesitated, feeling the heat of their attention as if their gazes had a physical weight.

*I just finished college recently,” I explained briefly, hoping to shift the focus elsewhere. But even as I spoke, I could feel their eyes boring into me, their expressions unreadable. It wasn’t just curiosity-it was something deeper, something primal that made my skin crawl. My words faltered, and my breath hitched. “W- why are you all looking at me like that?” I finally asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

They didn’t respond. Instead, their stares remained intense, like they wanted to do… something. Something I couldn’t decipher, but it horrified me. My hands fidgeted on my lap, trying to ground myself.

As if sensing my discomfort, Aeson readjusted in his seat. The sudden movement snapped Hades out of whatever trance he was in, forcing him to look away as though my presence meant nothing to him. The indifference in his expression only amplified the unease that had settled deep in my chest.

“I know it’s hard for you in Misty Violet Pack,” Aeson said suddenly, his tone softer than before but still holding an air of authority. “And now that you’re working for us, it won’t be suitable for you.”

I blinked, taken aback. “What do you mean?”

He leaned forward slightly, his eyes locking with mine. “I have a way to fix that,” he said, his voice deliberate. “Why don’t you come to Dead Moon Pack?”

My heart stopped. “What?” The word barely left my lips as I stared at him, wide-eyed.

Aeson straightened in his seat, his expression calm yet resolute. “My pack.”

Before I could even process what he’d just said, Caiden’s voice cut through like a blade.

“Huh?” He leaned forward, his usual composure slipping as astonishment flared in his amber eyes. “You can’t be serious.”

His reaction mirrored my own disbelief. My chest tightened, my mind reeling as I tried to make sense of what was happening.

Was this a trap? Or something else entirely?
