Chapter 121
Lucas showed up at the hospital room just as Emily finished her call with Austin. They had planned to wrap up the artwork by tomorrow, but since she was unexpectedly hospitalized, the submission had to be delayed. Naturally, she had to inform Austin.
As soon as she hung up, she saw Lucas walk in, and the smile on her face instantly disappeared.
Seeing her sudden change in expression, the friendly smile Lucas had been preparing froze awkwardly. He had relaxed a little upon seeing her smile, thinking she was in a good mood. Now, his heart sank.
After hesitating for a moment, Lucas moved from the doorway and walked over with uncertainty. “Emily, I heard you were admitted to the hospital, so I came to check on you.”
Emily’s tone was cold. “I’m fine. No need for Mr. Bennett’s concern.”
Lucas paused mid-step, refraining from moving forward or leaving. He patiently continued, “I know you’re upset with Andrew. He did go too far. I’m here to apologize on his behalf.
“But he just got emotional because of what happened in the past. It wasn’t intentional. Don’t hold it against him.”
Despite claiming to apologize, he came empty-handed and insinuated that if Emily remained angry, she was being unreasonable.
Emily hadn’t expected anything good from him anyway and felt no emotional response to his words. “If Mr. Bennett is done speaking, please leave. I have a headache and need to rest.”
Without looking at Lucas, she propped herself up and pressed the bedside call button.
Bob had instructed the hospital staff specifically; as soon as the bell rang, her dedicated doctor and nurses rushed in, concerned about her condition.
Emily pointed at Lucas. “He’s disturbing my rest. Please escort him out and don’t let him in again.”
The doctors and nurses exchanged glances before promptly moving towards Lucas, ready to escort him out.
Lucas had anticipated that Emily might take her anger out on him or even ignore him, but he hadn’t expected her to order his removal outright. “Wait, I have something important to discuss with you.”
The medical staff halted, turning to Emily for her decision. Emily was reluctant to waste more words on Lucas but didn’t insist on his expulsion.
Tolerating Emily’s continuous cold shoulder was truly out of character for Lucas, piquing her curiosity. She looked at him intently and asked, “What do you want to say?”
Lucas hastily stepped forward from between the doctors and nurses. Facing Emily, he stammered, “I want to ask you, the last time you were kidnapped, was that real?”
Emily hadn’t expected this question from him after all his hesitation. She frowned, scrutinizing him in confusion. Lucas squirmed under her intense gaze. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Emily sneered. “I just don’t understand why Mr. Bennett is asking me this. Haven’t you already made up your mind about what happened? Coming here now as if you would believe me if I said something different is laughable.”
Her eyes were filled with unrestrained sarcasm. “Besides, if everything’s been decided long ago, isn’t it a bit ridiculous for you to ask now?”
Lucas’s face turned an array of colors, unable to meet Emily’s piercing gaze.
But his initial guilt quickly turned into anger at being exposed. “I’m genuinely concerned about you, so why do you have to be so sarcastic? No wonder everyone prefers Lydia over you.”
