Chapter 176
“Andrew, Emily’s been busy looking aher Grandpa Charles lately. She’s barely even been home. She must be exhausted, so when the saw you treating me so well, she probably just snapped out of jealousy”
Lydia’s words reminded Andrew, and he turned to Emily with a frown. “Where have you been these past few days?”
Charles was staying right there in the family’s hospital. Andrew knew exactly whether Emily had gone to
ine to see him
him of not.
Emily didn’t really want to tell the Bennetts what she’d been up to, but then, as if something occurred to her, she shot a look at Lydia Lydia suddenly felt a sense of unease wash over her, like something bad was about to happen.
The next second, Emily spoke up, “At Grandpa Charles’s request, I’ve been looking into Bob’s car accident.”
Lydia’s pupils contracted, and she instinctively locked eyes with Emily, whose gaze seemed to see right through her.
Her hands tightened involuntarily, and she even found herself holding her breath. What does Emily mean by this? Lydia thought, her mind spinning ‘Does she know something?
Andrew didn’t notice anything odd about Emily beside him. He frowned and asked, “Wasn’t it already ruled an accident? What are you still looking into?”
Emily was silent for a moment before finally looking away from Lydia. “Bob called me before the accident. He said he’d found something, and then, not long after, I couldn’t get in touch with him.
“Bob didn’t go out alone. After something serious happened, nobody around him reported anything for a long time.
“It wasn’t until Grandpa Charles’s
Charles’s birthday that the police came knocking at our door. Do you really think all of this was just an accident, Mr. Bennett?”
Andrew was always so careful about everything, but now, with all these obvious clues right in front of him, he didn’t even question it. That was just plain weird.
Emily shot Lydia another look. Funny how all the strange things always seemed to circle back to her.
Her words finally snapped Andrew out of it, and a trace of guilt flickered in his eyes. His tone stened. “Did you find anything?”
Emily didn’t bat an eye. “I did find something, but I still need to verify it. I’ll let you know when the time comes,”
She kept things deliberately vague, making it clear she didn’t want Andrew’s help, and went straight back to her room.
As she was passing the sofa, Emily suddenly turned and looked straight at Lydia. That icy, penetrating gase seemed to strip away every bit of Lydia’s disguise, making her go rigid on the spot.
‘Emily definitely knows something. Lydia thought, her heart pounding, ‘But there’s no way anyone in this world could ever uncover what I did. How could Emily possibly know?
For the first time since coming to this world, Lydia was overwhelmed by a wave of uncontrollable panic. She was so lost in her anxiety that she didn’t even notice Andrew calling her name several times right beside her
“Lydia!” Andrew called.
Lydia snapped out of it and saw Andrew frowning at her. He asked, “What’s on your mind? You look really pale”
“No, it’s nothing.” Lydia quickly composed herself and said, “Andrew, I was just wondering, after you spoke to Emily like that, do you think she might be
upset?
“Maybe I should go talk to her? We’re family. As long as! sounding genuinely considerate.

Andrew sighed and tapped her forehead lightly. “You really are too kind. As long as I’m here, you don’t have to worry about any of this. Just think about what kind of birthday present you want next month,”
Lydia slipped her arm through his again, her voice soft and coy. “As long as it’s from you, Andrew, I’ll love it.”
The two of them slipped right back into their cory, harmonious vibe, acting like Emily had never even been there at all.
Little did they know, the moment Emily got back to her room, she picked up the phone and made a call. “Keep a close watch on Lydia. I want to know everything she does and everyone she meets. Don’t let anything slip by.”
‘No one can do something shady and not leave a single trace. I refuse to believe it, she thought coldly
