Emily had been wary of Lydia’s real intentions ever since Lydia started acting so eager to have her at the party. And she felt waiting out here in front of everyone was way safer than going off alone with Lydia to get the present.
But even with all her precautions, Emily still got blindsided
Not long ather Andrew left, he stormed back in, eyes blazing, making a beeline straight for Emily.
Emily instinctively felt the danger and tried to step back, but Andrew was faster. He lunged forward and slapped Emily.
The sharp sound of the slap echoed through the hotel, and for a moment, everything went dead silent
Lucas was the first to snap out of it. He quickly stepped forward and grabbed Andrew. He asked, “Andrew, what are you doing!”
Andrew shoved his glasses up, glaring at Emily with anger and disappointment. He shot back, “Me? Why don’t you ask her what she did?”
Emily turned her face away. Even after she took that slap, her expression didn’t even flicker. She’d managed to step back a little, so Andrew’s hand didn’t hit her squarely, but a bright red mark was already blooming on her cheek.
She met Andrew’s gaze, calm as ever. She said, “Everyone’s been watching me stand here the whole time. What could I possibly have done!”
Andrew was even angrier. He snapped, “Still trying to make excuses? We went out of our way to throw you this birthday party. Lydia was even willing to give you her own gifts, but you just couldn’t be satisfied, could you?
“You went and destroyed all of Lydia’s presents That’s just unbelievable.”
Everyone in the room was stunned by his words.
Emma exclaimed, “What? Are you serious?”

Everyone stared at Emily, their eyes filled with even more scorn and contempt.
