Chapter 245
Lydia looked conflicted, like she wasn’t sure how to bring up what she wanted to say next. Jeremy spoke up, “Ms. Bennett, if you have a question, feel free to ask.”
With his permission, Lydia let out a sigh of relief before asking, “Are you and Emily planning to date?” Jeremy didn’t expect
her to ask that and looked a little confused.
Lydia blinked her eyes and explained with a look of pure innocence, “Emily once said that when a guy and a girl have a meal together, that’s where all the ambiguous stuff starts. That’s how it was with her and Xavier before.”
Emma looked at her in surprise, her eyes flashing with a hint of anger, but it wasn’t aimed at Lydia.
Seriously? Just having a meal together means they’re being ambiguous? How could Emily have such a dirty and low-class idea?’ Emma fumed inwardly.
Jeremy looked at Lydia for a moment, then followed her lead and asked, “Xavier?”
Lydia nodded. “Yeah, the Jenkins family that just partnered with the Bennett family on a new project. Back then, Xavier would drive over every day to pick Emily up, and after dark, he’d bring her home, all just to try and win her over.”
She talked about Xavier picking Emily up and dropping her off in such a vague and ambiguous way, making people imagine all sorts of things, yet no one could tell she was doing it on purpose.
“Xavier even sent Emily a huge bouquet of roses, and she said she loved them. Back then, Emily was having a falling out with us and had no way to support herself, so she was relying on Xavier to help her out,” Lydia continued.
They almost became a couple, but it was a shame that Mrs. Jenkins didn’t seem to like Emily,” Lydia added. She pouted, looking like she was standing up for Emily and feeling indignant on her behalf.
She didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with bringing that up in front of Jeremy. “Even though they didn’t end up together, I believe that what they had was something no one else could ever replace.
“And when Emily got kidnapped, Xavier spent the whole night searching for her, not resting for a second…”
“Lydia!” Emma finally snapped out of it and interrupted Lydia, her face full of disapproval.
Everyone knew that both of the Bennett family’s daughters had been kidnapped, but it was still a real disgrace for the family.
It was a crucial time for the Windrose family to come to Cloudridge for business partners, and the Bennett family was determined to secure that deal. So, airing their dirty laundry in front of Jeremy was definitely not a good idea.
It was only after Emma interrupted that Lydia seemed to realize what she was doing. She stuck out her tongue at Jeremy,
then fell silent.
Anyway, she’d already said everything that needed to be said. ‘If Jeremy has even half a brain, he’ll realize that Emily is just a slut, Lydia thought. A woman like her is absolutely not worthy of him.’
Jeremy’s smile stayed perfectly in place, as if he hadn’t caught on to anything she said at all. But in truth, he not only understood exactly what Lydia was getting at. He looked straight through her little act.
The Bennett family was one of the top families in Cloudridge and the hottest pick for that benefit dinner. Jeremy had already done his homework on them before he even arrived in Cloudridge.
Of course, he’d heard all about Lydia, and all he ever heard were glowing compliments. All the glowing adjectives made it
