Chapter 264
Andrew suddenly reached out and seized Emily with his fingers. The crisp sound of a bone breaking rang out, clear and sharp even amidst the chaos, like a hammer striking down.
The intense pain drained all color from Emily’s face. Though she didn’t utter a word, her hand involuntarily released Lydia’s hair. Lydia, now free, quickly shrank into Emma’s embrace, trembling uncontrollably with fear.
Gale and Andrew stood protectively on either side of them, faces full of anger and vigilance, like the most loyal knights guarding their precious treasure. And standing before them, Emily was the wicked dragon threatening to harm their beloved girl.
Andrew’s usually calm face was now filled with rage. “Emily, have

your mind?”
“Yeah, I have. And it’s all because of you.” Emily shot him a fierce glare, her eyes full of undisguised hatred.
Her cheeks were swollen, her face pale, and cold sweat beaded on her forehead. Her pinky finger was bent backward at an unnatural angle, and her whole hand was shaking. But in her eyes, there was still that stubbornness and defiance, refusing to back down.
Andrew felt a pang in his heart. ‘She hates me? Why? Even though we’re not related by blood, I’ve always treated her like my own little sister. Everything I’ve done has been for her benefit. Why would she hate me?’ thought.
Lydia, still shaken, leaned against Emma’s chest. In a corner where no one could see her, her face twisted into a cold, sinister expression. ‘Damn that Emily,’ she thought to herself. ‘I’m going to kill her. I will. No matter what.’
Just as the tense standoff hung in the air, a ringing sound suddenly echoed from upstairs. It was a special bell set up for Charles, so he could alert the family whenever he needed something.
Charles might be old and not as sharp as he used to be, but he was a light sleeper. With all the commotion downstairs, there was no way he hadn’t heard it. Everyone instinctively looked upstairs when they heard the bell ring.
Lydia’s eyes suddenly lit up. ‘I almost forgot that Charles is the real key here,’ she thought to herself. She pulled away from Emma’s arms, her movements quick and eager, like a startled fawn clutching at a lifeline.
“Emily’s lost her mind. Only Grandpa can stop her. I’m going to get him,” she cried, acting as if she was so terrified she’d lost all reason.
Of course, Emily saw right through Lydia’s little scheme. Her face darkened, and without hesitation, she charged forward.
She moved so fast and with such force that Gale’s head slammed into the wall while Andrew’s waist smashed into the staircase railing, making him double over in pain. Emma stumbled, almost tumbling down the stairs.
The moment the three of them managed to steady themselves and turned to glare at Emily, they saw her grab Lydia by the hair and yank her back hard. Lydia screamed. Her body toppled backward from the force of the pull.
“Lydia!” the three of them cried out in panic, reaching for her. But all they could do was watch in horror as she tumbled down the stairs, each thud echoing through the house.
Luckily, Lucas was standing at the bottom. The moment he realized what was happening, he instinctively reached out and caught Lydia as she rolled down.
The stairs weren’t very high, but Lydia was completely unprepared. She bumped into the steps several times on the way down. There were no obvious injuries, but her whole body ached.
Lydia really hadn’t expected Emily to be this insane. Even with Emily’s finger broken, she still had the nerve to go after

Lydia.
For a split second, Lydia’s face twisted uncontrollably with pure malice. Lucas, who had just bent down to check if she was hurt, happened to catch that look, and he froze in shock.
