Chapter 271

Lydia’s words were like a shot of adrenaline to the already excited paparazzi, making them even more agitated.

“Is Mr. Bennett avoiding our questions now?”

“Are you deliberately dodging us because we’ve hit the truth?”

“Mr. Bennett, please answer our questions directly now!”

They disregarded the people blocking their way, pushing forward like madmen. Emily, being a petite woman, couldn’t compete with so many men carrying cameras, no matter how hard she tried.

They charged forward without care, and someone even stepped on Emily’s foot, sending her stumbling backward, completely out of control. “Emily.” Charles’s heart leapt to his throat when he saw this, and he instinctively reached out to catch her.

Meanwhile, Lydia, supporting him, saw her chance. A sinister gleam appeared in her eyes. “Old bastard, go to hell.” She grabbed Charles’ hand, pushed him forward, and screamed. “Grandpa, be careful.”

Lydia’s voice landed on Emily’s heart like a heavy blow. She instinctively looked up and saw Charles pitching forward, his forehead crashing hard against the nearest camera. The muffled thud sounded like thunder going off in Emily’s ears.

“Grandpa,” Emily cried out. Her face went pale as she rushed over in a panic, catching Charles as he collapsed and holding him tightly in her arms.

The camera, after being knocked loose, crashed down hard on Emily’s head. It all seemed so chaotic, but it happened in the blink of an eye.

Bright red blood streamed down Emily’s head, but she ignored the waves of dizziness and hurried to check on Charles. “Grandpa!” Emily called out.

Charles’ face had gone pale, and he had passed out, blood trickling from his forehead. Everyone was shocked. The excited paparazzi instantly calmed down, stepping back in fear, as if distancing themselves from the incident.

Emily jerked her head up, her eyes blazing red with hatred, like she could tear everyone in the room apart. “What are you all standing around for? Call an ambulance, now.” Emily screamed.

Her voice was raw, her whole body trembling uncontrollably, a wave of panic threatening to swallow her alive.

Her mind was a complete mess; her eyes blankly fixed on the pale, unconscious Charles. Moving on autopilot, her trembling body numbly followed the ambulance to the hospital.

After all that chaos, the news was the last thing on the paparazzi’s minds. They grabbed their gear and hurried out of the Bennett residence as fast as they could. In all the confusion, no one noticed the cold and excited look on Lydia’s face.

Now, the last person in the Bennett family who favored Emily was gone, and the entire family would be hers. Considering the servants, Lydia didn’t laugh aloud. She took out her phone and called Andrew.

The moment the call connected, her face and voice instantly turned frantic. “Andrew, s-something’s wrong, Grandpa is in

trouble.”

The cold machines emitted their relentless sound, each note like a drum pounding against Emily’s heart. Emily stood at the door of the operating room, her eyes locked on the glowing red “In Surgery” sign, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.

Chapter 271

After such a big incident, the rest of the Bennetts rushed over in a hurry. As soon as they arrived, before anyone could even ask what had happened, Lydia came running over, looking completely panicked.

“Those paparazzi somehow snuck into the house. When Emily saw them, she got really angry, yelling at them like she’d lost it, and even tried to shove them out the door,” Lydia said.

“I was going to take Grandpa upstairs, but he saw Emily was agitated and reached out to pull her. In the struggle, Grandpa suddenly fell. It was really scary. I was so frightened.”

She threw herself into Emma’s arms, sobbing as she recounted the events, but her words blamed Emily for provoking the paparazzi and causing Charles’ accident. It was all Emily’s fault.

As expected, everyone in the Bennett Family shot Emily furious glares, but she just stood there, staring blankly at the operating room doors, completely numb to everything going on around her.

The blood from Charles still clung to her hands, burning her skin like boiling water. It wasn’t until someone suddenly grabbed her shoulder from behind and yanked her back that she snapped out of it. “Hey, Andrew’s talking to you.”

Lucas’s angry, impatient expression froze on his face, and his hand instinctively pulled back from Emily’s shoulder, as if he’d been startled.

Emily’s face was as pale as a ghost, but bright red blood was streaming down her forehead. The stark contrast between the two colors stabbed at Lucas’s eyes like needles.

Lucas figured Emily was just scared. After all, she’d messed up so badly. It made sense that she wouldn’t know how to face everyone’s accusations. But looking at her now, it was obvious this was way more than just fear.

Seeing Lucas frozen in place, Andrew’s brows knitted in irritation as he strode over. “Emily, we’re talking to you.

You haven’t even cleaned up your last mess, and now you’ve stirred up even more trouble. Can’t you just behave for once? Now look at what’s happened to Grandpa. Does that make you happy?” Andrew snapped.

Emma, cradling the sobbing Lydia in her arms, shot Emily a look of pure disgust. “If we’d known you’d turn out like this, we never would’ve let you stay with us.”

Gale, though there was worry for Charles, was mostly consumed by rage. “From this day forward, you are not our family. Get out. Don’t ever let us see you again.”

Emily barely reacted to their accusations, but Lucas turned in surprise to look at his own flesh and blood. In that instant, an intense sense of unease crawled over him, sending a chill down his spine.

‘Don’t they see how much Emily is suffering too? She’s badly hurt, isn’t she?’ Lucas thought.

For some reason, Lucas recalled when Lydia hadn’t returned, and Emily got a small cut on her finger. Before any blood appeared, the whole family was already extremely worried.

Emma would hold her finger, blowing on it. Andrew would disinfect and bandage it. Lucas would throw away anything that hurt her. Gale would comfort her. Now, with Emily covered in blood, they acted as if they couldn’t see her, only blaming and insulting her.

But now, with Emily standing there, blood streaming down her face, it was like they couldn’t even see her. All they cared about was blaming her and hurling accusations.

Andrew, completely losing it, stormed up and slapped Emily right across the face. “How long are you going to keep pretending to be clueless? You think acting like this means no one will blame you anymore?”
