Chapter 276

Chapter 276

In the end, they had no choice but to give up. They were too busy scrambling to handle all the explosive rumors blowing up, while waiting for Charles to wake up so they could settle the score with Emily

Everyone was waiting in silence for Charles to wake up, but there was one person who was growing more and more anxious with each passing moment.

In Lydia’s plan, Charles was supposed to be crushed to death by that camera that day.

Everyone would have blamed Emily, and she would have been drowning in guilt over Charles and panicking from all the gossip, never able to get back on her feet.

Only by completely stepping on Emily and making sure she could never rise again could Lydia have everything to herself and finally stand firm.

But she never expected Charles to survive. And because of what happened, the paparazzi were too scared to stir up trouble, and the Bennett Family managed to squash the whole scandal.

With her plan about to go up in smoke, Lydia decided she had to make another move. Once Charles is dead, Emily will have no one to rely on. After that, she won’t have a place in the Bennett Family at all, she wondered.

That night, silence blanketed everything. The world was utterly still.

When everyone had gone to bed, Lydia slipped out and drove to the hospital alone.

Charles’s room was on its own floor, with bodyguards at the door and surveillance cameras watching every inch of the place.

I’ll leave the cameras to you,” Lydia murmured and glanced at the cameras. She walked straight toward the hospital room.

The bodyguard stepped in front of Lydia, blocking her path. “Ms. Bennett, no one is allowed in here except doctors and

nurses.

Lydia looked up, her eyes instantly filling with tears. “I know Emily told you not to let anyone in, but I really am worried about Grandpa.

After my foster parents died, I was sent to an orphanage. I grew up without any family or friends, so when I found out I was a Bennett, it honestly felt like a dream come true.”

She added, “I always thought all those eighteen years of suffering were just so I could finally have a family who loved me.

“So even if Grandpa doesn’t like me because he cares so much about Emily, I’ve still tried my best to earn his approval.”

Tears slipped from the corners of her eyes as Lydia carefully reached out, gently tugging on the bodyguard’s sleeve and giving it a little shake. “Please, just let me go in and see Grandpa, even if it’s just for a second.”

Her words sounded so genuine and desperate, it tugged at your heartstrings.

But no matter how much sympathy he felt, his sense of duty as a bodyguard wouldn’t let him break the rules, no matter how

raised hand slowly lowered.

“Thank you. Don’t worry, I’ll keep this a secret. I won’t tell Emily” Lydia’s tears quickly turned into a bright, grateful smile. She shot the bodyguard a playful wink before pushing the door open and slipping inside.

The moment the door closed behind her, that innocent, playful smile instantly twisted into something cold and sinister.

The bodyguard, completely oblivious, couldn’t help but smile as he watched her go, dazed, like he was looking at the most

precious treasure in the world.

He thought, ‘How could there be such a kind and pure-hearted girl in this world?’

The night was pitch black.

Emily, who had been sleeping soundly on the crisp white hospital bed, suddenly jolted upright as if waking from a nightmare. She clutched her pounding chest, gasping for breath, her heart racing wildly.

Austin, who had been keeping watch by her side, woke up at the same time. He quickly turned on the light and rushed to her bed.

Seeing the cold sweat on Emily’s forehead, he asked with concern, “Did you have a nightmare, Emily?”

Emily shook her head. She couldn’t explain it, but she just felt really uneasy inside. Without thinking, she grabbed Austin’s hand. “I need to go see Grandpa Charles.”
